The fact that they haven't made away for anyone of the allegedly viable options, (Flyyn, Moore, Smith, etc) is not a meda report....it's a fact. The media report that they won't address it through the draft, could turn out to be wrong, if say, Nassib falls to spot where they can't pass him up....but allegedly it's not a point of focus.
I re watched 6 games yesterday, tha majority of his throws were on the numbers. E ery QB is going to miss throes. His problem is when he misses them the wrong team is carching them. Testaverde had that problem, till he got married to the right coach.
I was just looking back at vinnys stats...I always bought that story about Parcells and Belichick fixing him. Looking at it now, he had one amazing year in 1998, but after that his TD to int ratio was back around 1:1 every year. http://www.pro-football-reference.com/players/T/TestVi00.htm Maybe 1998 was an outlier, like Vicks one great year. Vinny was surrounded by great talent that year with chrebet and keyshawn at wr, martin in his prime, in the backfield. They had weis as an OC iirc too. Sanchez's 2009 was like that. His stats were not as impressive, but he had the flight boys and tomlinson in the backfield.
Parcells point was prior to coming here, Vinny was always asked to make throws outside the numbers and down the field. Which is similar to the situations G&P put Nacho in. My contention, is simply that MM will put him in a situation to be successful. We'll see.
See, successful is all about context.... Successful for Sanchez would be around the 20th best QB in the league, 58% completion percentage, 20 TD's, 15 turnovers and 3500 yards, 80 passer rating... That would be a successful year for Sanchez from a statistics standpoint. Now real franchise QBs, they would probably laugh at the thought of calling that type of season successful on their part. Mark isnt going to be a franchise QB. I think 98% of people can agree on that... I even think Rex Ryan has come to see that, and he has a tattoo of his jersey on his arm. He may improve in MM offense, but he's not miraculously going to turn into a top 12 QB/franchise QB. Until you have that franchise QB in the NFL, you are stuck spinning your tires; you aren't going anywhere.
I disagree. Those kind of numbers are a fail. He's got to be nort of 60%, with a decent TD/in ratio. Under MM if he goes 58% they'll she'd him.
In the context of his career, those numbers would definitely be a big improvement on his part, and that says a lot. If you expect numbers much better than that, then you're living in a fantasy. He's taken about 4 steps back in the last two years, so even two steps forward is still not good enough (like you said with the stats I gave). With an offense that currently doesnt have much talent and a brand new system (which, keep in mind that just because there's a new system, it doesnt mean that there wont be growing pains, because it seems like everyone is just dismissing that fact) I dont see Mark taking the needed 5 steps forward to actually be worth while. This ultimately means one thing: We still need a franchise QB.
Currently, it appears the Front Office disagrees. And you cannot count last season, while maintaining any sense of reality given the Fashion of injuries at the skill positions, and a new OC. That's a throw away. Currently, however, there's no better viable option, than to d what most successful franchises do. Fix the circumstances surrounding the player.
The front office has no choice. They're stuck with him next year. If they could cut him and get rid of his cap number they would. Trying to spin that the front office somehow believes that Sanchez is still a franchise QB is really taking the decision to keep him out of context.
I'm not so sure Rex doesnt still believe in him...You will find out in preseason watching who get 1st string snaps. My bet is Sanchez is the starter next year no matter who is brought in to compete. The Jets have way too much invested...
I agree with what you're saying, but you seem obsessed with the prospect of a franchise quarterback. If you have an ok QB (say 10-15) and a top 5 defense, wouldn't it be safe to say that you can win a Superbowl as well?
We have no clue what the front office is believing. You are just taking this report that the Jets arent likely to draft a QB high and running with it. Any person that isnt extremely gullible can see it may very well be a smoke screen. Also, have you taken into account that there are practically no options in FA? David Garrard and Matt Moore are the best options... Does the Jets showing interest in Garrard tell any information about their view on Sanchez? No. Or at least in a positive spin it doesnt. They could be stuck with Mark simply because of circumstance, it sure as hell doesnt mean they think he's a franchise QB. Its like saying because the Jets may be trading Revis, you can infer that they dont believe he is the best CB in football... see how dumb that sounds? And please dont feed me that bullshit that you cannot count last season... It sure as hell counted for Sparano? He lost his job. He had to deal with one of the most untalented offensive rosters in the NFL (including the QB), yet it counted for him and he paid for it with his job. Its an entire NFL season. His 4th year. Yes it counts.
Most definitely. IMO a top 15 QB can get it done if he's surrounded by the right talent (see Russel Wilson)... At this point, I would consider a QB that can finish in the top 15 consistently a franchise QB, he doesnt have to be Aaron Rodgers. Im just sick of poor QB play on this team. You see teams like the Colts, Seahawks, Redskins, Broncos, and even 49ers take huge steps just in the change of the QB position... For once, I would like that to be us.
Sure you can win a Super Bowl that way too. However the chances of winning or even getting to a SB are less likely if you have to rely on a lesser QB with a better defense to get you there. Whereas getting a franchise top 5 -7 QB and a top 10-15 defense will give you a chance at a SB every year. Look at Pats, Steelers, Packers for reference.
