they have us doing this: Round 1: Barkevious Mingo Round 2: Tyler Wilson Round 3: Quitton Patton Round 4: Mike Gillislee thoughts? I wouldn't be opposed to this if it were to happen. only pick I'm not ecstatic about is Tyler Wilson. I'd much rather take a QB in 2014. here's the link for those interested: http://walterfootball.com/draft2013.php
I would like that. Addresses skill positions on offense plus the defense desperately needs an edge rusher. Tannenbaum drafted one OLB in his seven years as GM. Other 3-4 teams draft one almost every year.
Love Patton, like Gillislee (dont love him, think he's a change of pace back)... Dont love Wilson, and hate Mingo. I wouldnt be happy if the draft fell that way, especially if Warmack and Jones are there.
Don't like his mock draft (or any other mock which gives Jets Mingo). At the same time, I like the effort/data he's built up. Nice site. ============ Was going through the site & see another mock from Charlie Campbell: Dion Jordan, OLB Barkley, QB Cobi Hamilton WR Stefphon Jefferson, RB I wonder how badly this board would meltdown if Barkley was chosen. It could rival: "trade/keep Revis" & "Sanchez should be cut/traded/kept" threads.
it sure would be an epic meltdown - not only on these boards but the entire NY media would crucify them. and the jets know that. unless barkley turns into marino at the combine/pro day, its not happening.
Updated today. Now the mock looks like this: 1. Bjoern Werner, DE/OLB, Florida State With tons of holes thanks to a poor cap situation, New York has to take the best player available who makes sense for the roster. The Jets' inability to get to the quarterback needs to be fixed, so Bjoern Werner makes lots of sense. Werner is viewed as more of a 4-3 prospect, but the Jets run a hybrid defense with tons of 4-3 looks. Werner would be a good fit. The Jets have a ton of options, including Kenny Vaccaro, DeMarcus Milliner (if they trade one of their corners) and Dion Jordan (if they don't like Werner). With tons of needs, it makes sense for them to trade down. 2. Matt Barkley, QB, USC The Jets need to take a chance on a young quarterback because Mark Sanchez is awful. They have to give their fans some hope, or they may lose more supporters than just Fireman Ed. Matt Barkley would be a great fit for Marty Mornhinweg's offense. Some teams have developed an aversion for USC quarterbacks because those signal-callers are more Hollywood stars than football players, but I don't think the Jets' front office is smart enough to avoid making the same mistake. 3. Quinton Patton, WR, Louisiana Tech New York desperately needs an upgrade at wideout for obvious reasons. Santonio Holmes is a bum, while Stephen Hill hasn't really shown much yet. 4. Joseph Randle, RB, Oklahoma State The Jets need to give their next quarterback some weapons to work with. Both the receiver and tight end positions need to be upgraded (see third-round pick). Running back must be addressed as well. Shonn Greene's a free agent, but he wasn't very good anyway. Joseph Randle is the top player available.
I really do not like Werner. He has an incredible first step, but I just don't see the killer instinct. Worse yet, his pursuit would have me pulling my hair out.
Barkley on the 39 would be interesting. It's not a 1st round contract and it doesn't stop the Jets from taking a QB next year if they really suck this year. I don't think it's a great idea but I could see them doing it. Barkley on the 39 would be like Drew Brees on the 33, a 1st round talent who slipped some because in the end he just didn't look like a 1st rounder.
i would not like this. the new GM would have mucho explaining to do. fan, media, and even player psychology towards drafting another usc QB would be strongly negative, IMO, something woody and idzik do not need any more of at this point. the 2nd and 3rd rounds this year are solid and using a 2nd on barkley is tough to swallow.
It would make sense any other year IMO. This draft is stacked with the positions that the Jets are lacking. If they're going in with the thought of already taking another QB next year, why spend the pick this year instead of putting the offense together for next years QB? If one the of QBs are there in the 4th, and he's BPA, then sure, but in the 4th if there's a Safety or any of our other needs I'd choose them before a QB.
You can't not take Barkley just because Sanchez sucks. If he is the BPA at 39 you give him serious consideration. However, I'm looking for all trade down scenarios this year to acquire more picks. We need lots of help!
If it was up to me, I'd pick up a RB, TE, WR, OL, at 39 before Barkley. There's no way that all the WRs, TEs, and RBs are gone at 39. Hopefully Gio is there. This drafts value is around the second round, that's why I think we should trade #9 into the mid first or in the 20s and acquire another second or 3rd or both.
You still don't take him, I don't think he's the BPA. I think he's overrated. You have to fall in love with a QB to draft him. I think we stay away from USC QBs.
