Double dipping at OLB

Would you like it if we double dipped at OLB?

  1. Love it, the Sack Exchange is back!

    20.7%
  2. Meh, only if they are BY FAR the BPAs and still we need to address the O

    56.8%
  3. Hate it, we have to bring in talent on O first and foremost!

    15.3%
  4. Beer

Now, I know that our major needs are on offense. I'm the first guy on this board hoping to get some quality offensive players out of this draft; my perfect scenario is getting the best TE in the draft with a late 1st rd pick coming from a Revis trade and a quality starting RB with either our 2nd or 3rd rd pick.

However... since going BPA is always the best way to build a team, how would you feel if we ended up drafting back to back OLBs in round 1 and 2?

In rd 1 one or more of the following will be available:
Moore, Werner, Jones, Ansah, Jordan, Mingo

    And in rd 2:
    Okafor, Carradine, Montgomery, Thomas

They could easily be the BPA's when we pick and OLB is a position of need since we have no one there. Also pass-rushers are undoubtedly a premium position in today's NFL.
My question is, would you be pissed if our first two picks went once again to the defense or would you be pumped up because our pass rush would be sick?

OLB is our biggest need imo by far, with the exception of QB of course. I say if we don't get a decent FA LB, why not go back to back OLB in the draft? Our true QB of the future is probably not coming in 2013.

Though I like the sound of great superior pass rush I really think our offense is lacking beyond all belief. How sad is it that we have gotten the ball on our opponents 40 yard line off a turnover and all it resulted in was us punting the ball away, thats pathetic. We need to go offense and to the position that is the biggest glaring need and thats Chance Warmack. We need to at least be able to score and not put up a goose egg or 3 points in games

It's gonna take 2 good years of drafting to fix this mess. If BPA points to double dipping @ OLB then go for it. Don't force it though. No matter what, this team will be looking to fill in major holes going into next year's draft also.

With our cap situation and the cuts we will have to make i agree. Thats why its BAP that fills a need and if that ends up as OLB, OLB so be it. I think we can still pick up a quaily RB as well as TE in the 3rd or 4th this draft so the offense will get some help no matter what.

We need two OLBs so if we are drafting two starters for the next couple years then I would be all for it. That means we would have to find some Olinemen in the later rounds..which is possible in this draft... I know he isn't the physical freak but I liked McIntyre instincts and I wouldn't be that upset if we drafted One and found a diamond in the rough...

We also have to remember how awful the Safety situation was two years ago...we have to address both those spots... maybe Allen and Bush could step up but who knows..

No, we need offensive players. Rex Ryan is a defensive mastermind, he doesn't need to draft defensive players round after round after round. We have drafted 3 skill players in the Rex Ryan Era. Maybe later in the draft, but not in the first two rounds.

While I admit that Jets need offense, I'd be ecstatic if Jets went 2 OLBs in the first three round, to fix up the anemic pass rush. If they somehow retain Landry and grab a stud safety at FS (within the first four) I would literally do cartwheels. I know Jets are hurting on offense, but the value is at OLB, which is also a huge need. And Jets still have a strong, young nucleus to build around. Now would be the best to load up on quality OLBs, so Jets can finally concentrate on offense after this season, once and for all.

Seriously, once the defense grabs 2 OLBs and a safety, they are almost stocked with young guys that will contribute at DL, LB, and the back four. They won't need any more investment from high round picks. (David Harris situation has to be resolved somehow, I know, but one problem is a lot easier to deal with than multiple problems coming up at once, right?) Maybe, they will need to draft a cornerback later on, but they can grab a project kid (or a few) and coach them up in the later rounds or even UDFA.

Once the defense is set, Jets would be in prime position to address offense thoroughly (and nothing but the offense) for the next few years. (Won't even take that long.)

A olb in the first (jones,Moore,Jordan,or Ansah)

Would get Warford in the second

3rd round grab another olb (Jenkins, Lemonier)

This topic has made me think about forcing picks for positions & I'm beginning to think Jets should consider it for QB. If Sanchez can't be replaced though the draft, then replace McElroy with a project who can compete in next year's training camp. NOT IN ROUND 1. However, I'm thinking Jets must have QB selected by latest round 5.

    Next season training camp:
    Young QB from 2013
    vs.
    Rookie from 2014
    vs.
    Cheap Veteran.

Funny, I came EXACTLY to the opposite conclusion :)

If there's one position where we shouldn't force a pick it's QB. Rex is on a thin line, with the results on O and a new GM. Let's wait a year to draft a QB, because if next year there's a HC change I wouldn't want him to be stuck with a QB that got picked by the previous regime. That would be a wasted pick.

Mind you, this year will be the first year Rex actually got an OC worth his salt. I wouldn't even rule out the possibility of Nacho turning into something serviceable. Because of that chance (and the possibility that Nacho STILL tanks) it is not a good year to draft a QB this year. (Or that is my reasoning.)

Hence, I would first and foremost fix up that god damn pass rush once and for all, get another useful safety and fix up the OL this year. If Nacho still sucks, Jets will be in prime position to draft a QB, a WR and all other gadgets next year.

I would love to have a OLB like Chase Thomas. doesn't get a lot of sacks, but causes constant pressure, has a high motor, in on almost every play.

I love how so many of you say "oh lets wait until next year to draft our QB" in order to justify two OLB within the 1st 3 picks.

You realize that in order for that young QB that you plan on picking next year to actually be worth while, he must come into a talented group, right? If we add 2 OLB's and draft another back up RB and a back up guard in this draft, how will that help the development of the most important position in football? We might get lucky and maybe that 3rd or 4th round RB turns into a starter, but with the Jets inability to scout RBs I question that.

I could live with Moore, Werner or Jones in round 1 (I would actually be very happy), but outside of them, I dont really see great value at the 9 spot. If we are talking BPA, Warmack and Fisher have to be above Mingo, Ansah and Jordan.

Look at Matt Ryan, or and of the young QBs who are flourishing now- they have been provided with great young talent in order to ease their transition and maximize their potential. This group as is, is one of the least talented offensive rosters in the NFL. On the other side, we have a great defensive minded coach who can mostly turn a pile of shit into a top 10 defense. IMO, if you want to turn this franchise around, you must focus your entire attention to fixing the offensive side. Until that is done, we will continue to be stuck in mud and lack the ability to develop a franchise QB.

If you feel like you can find 2 decent guards and a RT in FA/later rounds in the draft, go for it, but if not I suggest you start there.
