While we are dealing with this storm...quick update one the future..still a possible Valentines day storm..and then another potent storm next weekend.
yea, I don't get the naming of snow storms. What was the half inch we got the other day called? "Dick Trickle"?
Jay I spoke to friends out on the Island a little while ago they said its snowing real hard,,,,going to call my brother now but he is not too far out. AS FOR ME,,NOT SNOWING VERY HARD RITE NOW BUT super WINDY,,REALLY STARTING TO KICK UP .
Checking in from coastal New Hampshire, bout 8" or so, and I don't think the hard stuff is coming down for quite awhile. I'd keep playing.
It will eventually and I will tell you what..you look at the radar now and you say "hmmm looks like its ending soon..but I will tell you this..parts of nnj will begin to fill in and by 11pm tonite there will be almost blizzard conditions with an additional 5-8 inches of snow. Not going to bore with details but when the storm gets cranking with the PHASE....huge parts of precip will be thrown back into southern ny state and NNJ. Wind really picking up..and the snow will too again.
I was just outside ( Rockland ) getting firewood,,,,its cold ,,its very windy but snow is not coming down hard at all,,,,,that said Jay says it will so I will take his word for it  Jay you should set up a chat room for nites like tonite,,,,,,
so far not bad, about 4" fell up here. i have to be back at work at 5a.m. should be an interesting ride in
I'm in Waterford, Ct. We have close to a foot on the ground at this point and it's still coming down. Right now there's a thunderstorm overhead but no rain, just an endless blowing snow. When lightning flashes all the snow lights up for a second in a blinding flash. It's like have a giant camera bulb flash all around you. Winds are at 35-40 and gusting to 60. The strangest thing about the storm so far is that I still have power. Lights have flickered a half dozen times but they're still on. I'm guessing that's because nobody, and I do mean nobody, is moving around right now so no idiots crashing into telephone poles and blacking out the neighborhood. There was a bad one-car crash in Groton earlier today about 2:30PM. An older couple in their 60's flipped their car and hit a pole. That has a few thousand people in Groton without power at the moment. I'm guessing the couple had to be in the car, on the way to the hospital or something. They got there anyway.
Got a ton of sleet earlier. Looks like there's nothing going on now. Relatively quiet in Brooklyn. Hoping to wake up to some solid accumulation.
Thunder snow congrats B....thats every snow geeks dream. It happens..there have been multiple lightning strike on the Island too. You still get a decent ways to go to..you could end up with 2 feet...close to it. Its coming Drew...Brooklyn will get a big hit still I think. And the reason is this..all evening I have been talking about the precip filling in..just check out this radar and it tells you..once and for all..guaranteed...there is a lot more snow coming. Watch how its blank..and then grey...and then the greens fill in out of nowhere. RADAR:http://www.wunderground.com/radar/r...&lightning=0&smooth=0&showlabels=1&rainsnow=0
So what's considered northern NJ? I'm up in Hoboken which to me is north but I don't know if everyone has different lines of what's what.
It just got ridiculous here over the last hour. We have over a foot of snow already. I snow blowed my drive way and yard (yes my yard) about two hours ago and there is 6 inches on top of what I cleared out.
Murrell...you have so much snow to go to bud..the radar over CT is filling in deeper and deeper...parts of CT will get over 2 feet bud.
