LOL Scott and Pace were reported to be axed yesterday afternoon. Plus that was far from going out on a limb. Everybody knew they would be cut this offseason. GMac isn't a good NFL QB either so that means nothing. If they were protecting their investment he would have sat the rest of the season, point blank period. All it takes is one CB blitz or one unblocked LB and he could have been wrecked. Or even a non-contact injury. You were wrong. It is ok. It happens. You learn from it or you keep looking uninformed.
Some of you guys are the most fickle fans I've ever seen in my lives. I feel bad for anyone that lives with you and has to interact with you on a day to day basis. WHAT?! PLAIN CHEERIOS?! NOT HONEY NUT?! YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ME, WE ARE GETTING A DIVORCE!
Bad HCs or DCs can be good position coaches... I wouldn't worry that much. Plus, he has a pedo-stache... that's got to be worth some pedo-points! I like the fact he's worked a lot in college since we'll have to bring in a lot of young guys, especially at OLB.
i appreciate all the passion...but how could anyone on this site possibly have an opinion on something like this. i know nothing about this guy and i'm happy to leave the decision-making to the pros.
yes i forget how much we were all complaining about bob sutton last season there was nothing wrong with the lb unit when we had a solid group of guys. bart scott and calvin pace basically fell off of a cliff, and the team hasnt been able to either get them back to where they once were or replace them. older guys that werent getting it done are now getting cut, but its definitely bob suttons fault. thats why hes got another dc job after a stint under rex. im not saying sutton was good or anything, but they did revive maybins career for one season, albeit a shortlived revival, but thats only due to his inability to keep on any meaningful weight.
I like this hiring a lot. I have always liked VanGorder since his days with the Falcons. I thought he was a pretty smart guy who liked to be aggressive and blitz on defense and brought some intensity. He also coached/developed LB's David Pollack, Boss Bailey, Thomas Davis, and Odell Thurman at Georgia. Not a bad list.
First off I think Sutton did very well with the LB core we had. I don't understand all the hate. Without talent no coach can be a star. As for this guy, it appears he has done very well with LB and he should bring in a lot of insight from a draft perspective from his College Background. Oh wait the guy was fired so it must suck. I'm venturing to guess many fired coaches became great at a lower level. So what's all the Whining about. What the hell are you guys looking for in a LB coach? I trust RR with the D and willing to give the new guy a chance. Or is it that some of you just love to hate every choice.
