This is exactly what I was getting at. Junc... Yeah, no shit, the "right situation" for him to "succeed again" would be to surround him with talent. I think it's fair to say the same for 95% of the starting Qbs in the NFL. So what exactly does Sanchez need to return to form? A top 5 Rushing attack to go along with a top 5 Defense?
No. He needs someone that understands what he can and can't do, and how to get him to do the in between. Guy was the greenest QB to leave college an become a starter. He needed a coach and the FO never gave him one. The other player MM helps out....is Joe Mc Knight.
I think those claims are acceptable. So, his bed-wetting performances can be attributed to development and coaching (especially OC), rather than a dearth of talent. Yes or no?
They didn't have a top 5 rush attack or D in 2010 2011: 3 of his top 5 weapons were out of football in 2012 2012: played most of year w/ kerley, Schilens, Gates, Cumberland, reuland as his weapons It's hard to win like that and we almost made it in '11.
Without a doubt. Schottenheimer rarely got the ball out of his hands in less than four seconds. The modern nfl is built around 6 and 7 yard breaks, the screen game, and 3 step drops or throwing from the gun on first and second. You use the pass to set up the run, and when you have a lead and a line like the Jets have maintained you can shove it down their throats. When you run early, you get subjected to a loaded box.Hence your OL gets tired while the defense comes forward. Today, you need to tire the defense by making them run left then right early, seeing who slacks when the play goes the other way, them running counter p,as at those guys. It's just football. This year was dearth of talent. When he had a cast, he lit it up. Like Week 1, and week 10..... What is minboggling about this year, is why they did keep something based on the week 10 gameplan for the last 6 weeks. As a former computer programmer one thing you learn is stick with what works, don't reinvent the wheel. But OCs tend to feel like artists, like it's the play book that's their baby. It's a human metaphysical trait.
They were 6th in pts allowed, 3rd in rush D offensively by the rankings 4th in total yds, 8th in YPC BUT that includes Brad Smith plays and the huge game we had in week 17 where we had almost 300 yds rushing on 5.5 YPC The bulk of our carries came from Greene and LT, they averaged less than 4.2 YPC- good but far from great and LT was invisible most of the year after a hot start. Our run game was ok in 2010, nothing like 2009 and our D blew numerous leads so while the rankings have them 3rd in yds/6th in pts they were far from a great defense.
If your Qb needs better than this - if he needs greatness all around him - upon entering his 5th season, then he probably isn't really your Qb.
He didn't need better, he led us to 11 wins despite an up and down D and run game. When the D and run game faltered he and the pass O won us a lot of games.
Right. So, essentially, you're saying that he needed/needs a better D. Sanchez really should go rip Rex a new asshole since Rex's Defenses have been holding back Sanchez all of this time.
we make the playoffs in 2011 w/ better defense but what has heled us back has been a lack of skill position players on offense. W/ better skill guys or w/ better D we make it in 2011, w/ better skill guys on O in 2012 we make the playoffs.
You address the problematic variables of the incompetent jerkoff that created the unstable platform :rofl2:
Would a better QB have stopped our D from collapsing in both NE games, the oak game, NYG, Mia? better QB play we probably win the Den game even though the D choked again. In 2012 we could have had Joe Montana in his prime and we weren't making the playoffs.
1) Sanchez was ABYSMAL in the Denver game. Absolutely horrible. Our defense turned the Broncos over THREE times (I believe twice in their own territory) and our offense managed zero touchdowns (and i believe 3 total points) off of those turnovers. 2) Sanchez was ABYSMAL in the Miami game to close last season. He was easily the biggest reason we didn't win that game. In particular, the the game-sealing interception he threw in the red zone (of course) was profoundly comical. 3) Sanchez was pretty bad in the Giants game as well. 4) Sanchez was mediocre in the second NE game of 2011 and was decent in the first NE game of 2011 . 5) Of the games that you mentioned, the ONLY game he was REALLY good in was the Oakland game.
This is complete and utter nonsense. For starters, we'd have something on the order of 15 fewer turnovers. Secondly, take the plethora of open receivers Sanchez drastically underthrew or overthrew and cut that number by, AT THE VERY LEAST, 50%.
1) I agree, he was horrible BUT the D allowed a QB who can't throw to go 95 yards for the GW TD in the final minutes 2)he wasn't good but we had the lead in the 3rd qtr and the D allowed a Matt Moore led O(w/o an injured Reggie Bush) to go on a 20+ yd 13 min drive. 3) We were in total control of the NYG game, had them 3rd and 10 from their 1, D allows NINETY NINE yd TD to change the game and the season. we would have had less TOs and more sacks, the O would have put up similar pts and we'd have a similar record. We saw when McElroy came in, he had no one to throw to but took sacks instead of forcing passes like mark. We still lost either way.
It wouldn't be McElroy coming in. It would be Joe Montana. Maybe both Mark Sanchez and Greg McElroy have trouble reading a D and quickly hitting open receivers.
