Ridiculous. Tell that to the guy who paid the Giants a PSL and who is now obligated to buy all ten games for the rest of his life, only to have to sit in the last row of the UD EZ for the rest of his life. He's as snug as a bug in a rug alright. More like a cockroach in a cow pie. Nobody's gonna tell me this guy is happy, especially if his beloved Giants go into a Jets-like slide.
Sheer made up SPECULATION on your part. Instead of guessing buy a NYG tix to a game & go up to the UD & interview there fans. Otherwise you are just chucking $hit on the wall hoping it will stick. Oh yes you can do the same for the NYJs UDers also
New Stadium Alsmost Had a Retractable Roof Article Dated 2/2/13: http://www.giants101.com/2013/02/02...york-giantsnew-york-jets-passed-due-to-price/ MetLife Stadium Nearly Had Retractable Roof, but New York Giants/New York Jets Passed Due to Price February 2nd, 2013 at 6:30 AM By Dan Benton Super Bowl XLVIII is still more than a year away, but it's been shrouded in controversy since day one due to MetLife Stadium, home of both the New York Giants and New York Jets, being an outdoor stadium. Many fear NFL's biggest game will suffer because of cold temperatures and potential inclement weathers. Some have even gone as far as to call it "retarded." It's a concern that was taken into account while building the new Meadowlands stadium. Giants co-owners John Mara and Steve Tisch sat down with Jets owner Woody Johnson and the collective group considered a retractable roof. However, Tisch revealed on Friday that plan was scrapped due to the immense cost of said roof. It, alone, would have cost an additional $500 million to build. At a cost $1.71 billion as of January 2013, MetLife Stadium was already the most expensive stadium ever built. The roof would have pushed it over the $2.2 billion mark. Diehard fans would probably have hated a roof, but in this "Hey! Down in front!" era of Giants football, there's also likely a large contingent that would have loved it. However, New York/New Jersey football is meant to be played outside, so that was probably the best $500 million never spent. Also… Comments on "Retractable Roof" Hanshi says:February 2, 2013 at 8:15 AM I don’t understand the problem with a retractable roof. Football could still be played outside by simply opening the roof. The stadium could have been used much more by have year round events with the roof closed. Using the stadium more means increased revenue. Also, we would have had a chance at more Suoer Bowls without the idea being called retarded. Dirt says:February 2, 2013 at 8:22 AM I’ve gone back and forth on the roof. If I were the owner I would have done it, and hosted Super Bowl and Final Four after Super Bowl and Final Four. But I love that it’s not there. It’s funny seeing comments on national articles on the Super Bowl next year. So many people seem upset. You know who’d be thrilled to go to such a game? The same people who’d be thrilled to host a Championship Game two weeks prior – fans in Green Bay, Chicago, Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, New England, etc. And quite frankly, having a cold weather Super Bowl is all about fairness. Not to the owners, but to the fairness of play. These northern teams that play in these elements need to contruct teams to win their division in these elements. And then they often face the prospect of playing a fair weather team on their terms for the championship. Why shouldn’t it be the other way around sometimes? Weather is the reason, by the way, I bet the proverbial house on Baltimore over Denver a few weeks back. There was simply no way Peyton Manning was going to play like the normal Peyton Manning at home in January in his new digs. Dirt says:February 2, 2013 at 8:23 AM I forgot to say that since I’m not the owner, I’m glad there’s no roof. (Bonus for me is that my seats are now covered by the stadium’s solar panels!)
227 you are correct , I stated that I know Giant fans let me clarify " that have season tickets " and they hate the new place ! Every single one of them
It's hard to imagine Giants fans with PSLs in every seat thinking this place is Peachy Keen. Despite Champ's insistance on ragging on and on about the Jets and then comparing them to the Giants as if the fanbase is the problem and not the stadium, I'm not buying it. And here's why. If the Giants go into a 8-8 or 6-10 slump we're in and lose Cruz or maybe even Eli and don't see any way to fix it anytime soon, you're going to see beaucoup Giants fans bitching and moaning like crazy. Same complaints... overpriced tickets, PSLs for horrible seats, etc., etc.
Gotta figure any Giants fans who were previously in Giants Stadium can't possibly like this one more. The are paying FAR more money for what they always had, and the views and amenities aren't worthy of the cost. Other Giants fans are the ones who were on the 50 year wait list that finally got their chance to attend games, and they're not going to be vocal complaining. They're just thrilled to finally be there.
When they say adding the roof would have cost 2.2 billion instead of the 1.7 billion (BILLION!) I wonder how accurate those numbers are... Would it have cost 500 million more to ADD a retractable roof to the 1.7 Bil stadium they already had designed? I have a feeling that from the get-go, a retractable roof stadium would not have cost 2.2 billion had it beed planned that way all along. So, I feel these figures are misleading when they use that as the excuse. Just my opinion.
In business and in many other endeavors over the years, I've learned many things. I'm not going to second guess the football decisions (or reasons) why the Giants (in particular) and the Jets (who went along with it) chose to discard the retractable roof. We all know that the Giants were vehement (SP?) about "no cover." "This is NE Football and real men up here play in bad weather," etc., etc. But what I will comment on is the business decision to reject the roof. Stupid idea to not have it. You're already committed to 1.7 Billion. And now you're calculating covering your costs for this fucking monstrousity based on the revenue you think you'll collect for 20 fucking games only (and 4 of them are worthless PsOS). But if you think it through, with another .5 Billion invested (and easily financed because you sell it to the bankers as a great revenue-producer), you now have a fully functioning, all weather, all seasons, all venues revenue-producing ATM Machine that generates Billions upon Billions in cash-flow over how many years? You tell ME! So, it was a no brainer for me. You have to put a roof on this bitch. Now, the Giants don't want to use it.... FINE! You have the fucking option. The Jets want to use it... FINE! Be my guest. But in the end, it was a H**U**G**E mistake for them to not put a retractable roof on this bitch.
as against domed stadiums as i am i agree with you. although i dont think the nfl lets the teams decide if the roof is open or closed. i think there are mandates to when it can and cant be open, and they are pretty retarded if you ask me. these dummies seem to not care either, they will have the wwe there in i think april.... thats dangerous as fuck to try and do as it will for sure be chilly and possibly be terrible cold wet weather. april 7th... man as a guy who has been to plenty of early season baseball games its going to be a real hit or miss early in april... and its not like they can reschedule it for later in the year if it rains. THEN if that isnt bad enough, for them to pray to god that its nice next february... holy shit what a bunch of morons. in addition i am sure the new acc would love to play their championship football and basketball games in an inside domed stadium... car shows... think of hte possibilities. idiotic if you ask me. if you want to be of the they are men they play outside then you leave grass and you at least give some cover to the poor fans like seattle did. that is a brilliant stadium... the shame is that it really isnt, its a sensible stadium that was put together by people who were interested in the home field advantage and providing as much comfort for the fans as possible. but you know all of this, so im not sure why im saying it. maybe its because it is like therapy to voice my displeasures e every now and again and some points of how it could be done the next time. heres to hoping that a sink hole develops in the coaches club
Ideally there's going to be a huge blizzard during the 2014 Super Bowl and the cameras are going to pan to hunkered up suckers who paid $6,000 per seat and then zoom in on Woody Johnson in his nice heated suite on the 50 yard line
Gee that is a real 180 since when I posted how nice it was to watch a game in the Houston domew U flamed the shit out of me
I'm actually surprised the state of New Jersey didn't mandate that they have a roof as part of the early negotiations. The state owes at least that much to the taxpayer and I'll tell you why. We (you and I and every swinging dick who pays NJ State Income Tax) helped pay for the fucking "infrastructure" - the publicly-funded construction costs of the new access ramps, sewer re-routing, new electrical underground cable extensions, gas lines, water lines, everything leading up to the building, including the rail head construction. Nobody ever talks about how much more it took (more than the 1.7 Billion in actually building costs) to build all the extra shit needed for this new monstrousity. So now the taxpayor foot the bull for all this shit and all we have is a fucking building that ONLY generates tax revenue for ths state when there are 20 football games there (oh, okay, and an occasional extra thing or two IF the weather cooperates). So the taxpayor got screwed royally... all of them... whether or not they are even Jets or Giants fans and could care less about the NFL. In the meantime, Woody lines his fucking pockets with the revenue from the PSLs and games and could give a damn less about how many public tax dollars it took (outside of the actual building construction) to put up this fucking monstrousity.
Bald-faced, unadulterated lie. Stop already with the "poor me - I got bashed by everyone" bullshit. I was always for a dome or retractable roof and can tell you unequivically that I never "flamed the shit out of you" over any fucking Houston stadium. I could give a shit less what Houston has. Come on man, you're really got to stop with this flaiming nonsense, especially the false allegations. You make half this shit up and now... you're getting flamed (like this post right here) for making false accusations about being flamed in the past. That's the funniest part. If you want to get flamed, we can provide it. Just keep making up false shit about being flamed in the past and we'll keep on flaming. Sheesh... enough already. And believe me, I've got better things to do than flame some guy on the internet who insists on making a daily ass of himself.
I want to hear that Woody Johnson was on his private commode taking a dump when him and his crapper let go and fell into a gigantic 20' sewerage-lined sink hole.
I was down in Houston for the Rutgers Texas Bowl game in 2006, and it's what turned me around on my views about football stadium's with roofs. It didn't even feel like I was an indoor stadium, primarily because they have a grass field. For night games you can't really see the sky anyway since the lights are so bright. I suppose being inside when the roof is closed during the day could be different, but they make them now so natural light still passes through the roof panels (like the inside of a UPS truck) Search the internet for Reliant Stadium photos and you'll see what I mean. That day I imagined that our new stadium (being planned at the time) would at least be as nice as Reliant Stadium - or similar, and I was really looking forward to it having been to many games at Shea and practically every home game at Giants Stadium. Boy was I wrong. Many compare ours to to the palace Jerry Jones built in Dallas since they were built about the same time. In my mind, a comparison to Reliant Stadium is a better gauge. It was built in 2002 and shouldn't not have amenities a whole lot better than what we opened 9 years later. Super Bowl fans that have been to Super Bowls in Phoenix, Dallas, Houston, Indy are really going to be disappointed in our place. I suppose the league figures that for this SB, a high percentage of fans will be from the northeast and be familiar with it already. The really high rollers will fill the club suites.
To bad it occurred 4 years ago & I have no intention to go back that far in this thread to find the exchange
Yes, too bad indeed, especially since it never happened. I wouldn't suggest going back and looking either, becasue you'll spend the rest of your life looking and never find it.
