2008 and 2009, Holmes wasn't the #1 WR. Hines Ward was. So again, Holmes is not a #1 WR, 1b or a good #2. In 2009 the Steelers were pass heavy.

This could be a chicken or the egg argument. One could argue that targeting is a product of perceived talent level and prior production. Scrubs don't get targeted a lot and conversely top WRs do. Maybe you are what your targeted stats say you are. In the words of Rich Eisen, "I'm not saying; I'm just saying".

If a receiver isn't open he usually isn't going to get targeted. Holmes is not a top 10 receiver but he's paid like one.

You are making far too much about one play, and not coincidentally a play that ended his season, he no doubt was in pain and concern over his future, and the refs got wrong since he had given himself up and under the rules he should have been ruled down.

But don't let those stop you in your hatred for him.

    You guys are pathological.

Do you ever even bother to look up the stats before making wrong statements? Holmes had more targets in 2009 than Ward. That would technically make him a #1, no? I admit before 2009 he was a #2. 09 was his first year getting decent targets and he was productive. Same with 2012. 2010 he got a good amount and in 2011 he got just over 6, clearly his worst year of the 4 for total yards.

So it has nothing to do with us having a weak line, a weak QB and no WR to compliment him right? How often does Holmes not get open? I'd bet every time he's double and triple teamed. 2012 Holmes showed he can be productive as the go to guy. Not targeting him enough was mostly on Schotty and his terrible game plans, but also because of Sanchez not finding open receivers, which he is notorious for.

    sigh.

Every #1 receiver not getting covered by Revis is getting double teamed quite often. They still get open and they still produce.

There is zero evidence to suggest that Holmes is a top 10 receiver. None.

Is he the best receiver on the Jets? Obviously, but that's really not saying much.

Just stop. You sound ridiculous. You shouldn't mention Larry Fitzgerald in the same sentence as Santonio Holmes again either. It's foolish.

I don't always need to look up statistics, it's called watching a freaking football game and understanding the game. Hines Ward had superior stats and was the #1 WR for the Pittsburgh Steelers until Mike Wallace came and Hines Ward became pretty much a full time slot WR. Having more targets doesn't make you the #1 WR - on a week to week basis he had the better match-up. When you thought of the Steelers, you had to game-plan against Hines Ward first. Holmes 2nd.

This still doesn't change the fact that Holmes needs someone good on the other side in order to make plays. Andre Johnson, Calvin Johnson - great WRs - they can do it on their own. Holmes is being paid in the same class, yet he can't produce like them. OVERPAID, OVERRATED

I never said Holmes was as good as Fitz!! Why are you still insisting on that? I was using him as an example to show that even great receivers have bad production with bad QBs, and how you guys are arguing using double standards, just because you don't like Holmes as a person. Good receivers still get open and produce? Not Fitzgerald last year and he had 3 more targets per game than Holmes. No that doesn't mean I'm comparing the skillset of both.

Holmes has potential to be a top 10 receiver, we just need to compliment him with a potential deep threat and better quarterback play. Those 2 things matter. I've seen Holmes on the field. He does get open. He also makes great catches in tough coverage. Look how crappy our offense was in 2012 without him.

 I sound ridiculous because I understand how targets and QB play effect receiver production, while you seem to think it's irrelevant. Okay, whatever you say. You must be the expert. Sanchez was great in 2011, he never turned the ball over or threw picks headed Holmes' way. He never missed open receivers or got sacked the 5th most in the NFL. Yeah, I sound ridiculous. Funny I break down all the facts and stats and analyze it and you respond with generalizing one liners. You guys just see one stat and roll with it. Shame.

You should not state things as facts if they are blatantly wrong. That's the second time you've been exposed fabricating stats just because you think that's what they are. I have higher standards than that. In 2009 Ward was NOT the superior receiver and was not the #1. You really think teams didn't game plan for Holmes, a super bowl MVP? By all means, please name some more #2 WRs that get more targets than the #1s. Please don't make them up this time. I guess you don't consider Fitzgerald a good receiver since he couldn't do it on his own last year eh? Sorry, but you're full of shit and you contradicted yourself with your own argument. Good receivers don't need a decent #2... THEN WHY DID HOLMES OUTPLAY AND OUTPRODUCE WARD IN 2009 IF WARD WAS THE #1???

    Double fucking standards.

You can't say one thing is true and point to Holmes, but ignore that same exact thing when it applies another player. It's illogical, asinine, and shows your blatant biased hatred of Holmes.

And the funniest part is that you guys are making me out to be the bad guy here, because I'm defending the 2nd best playmaker on our team. How ridiculous of me!!!

Not to change the subject, but has anyone heard how Holmes's rehab is going?

Just so I am clear without Holmes the Jets have had their worse season under Rex Ryan. Without Holmes the offense was ranked dead last in the NFL. The Jets don't have anybody else on the roster with Holmes talent and we are ready to get rid of him?

I don't care if he is a top 10 receiver he is a number 1 why because he is the Jets number one. Until the Jets bring in somebody better or at comparable keep the guy.

BTW, throwing that ball up for grabs like that is one of the most unprofessional plays I have seen in the NFL injury or not. That is something you expect to see in PeeWee not the NFL.

Trade Revis get rid of Holmes that will help this team.

    Dude. Give it up.

He stopped tweeting earlier in Jan. Hopefully he's doing well, never want to wish injury on a Jet player. I hope things are going well.

You seem to be missing a key point, if a WR gets open, he will get more targets. It doesn't all fall on the like you are trying to say. Maybe he wasn't utilized much because he can't get as open as a Fitz/Calvin. Maybe he wasn't utilized much because he doesn't have the athletic ability to go up top and fight for the ball. You ignored a pretty important part of what it takes to complete the pass, the guy catching the ball. Holmes is what he is a talented WR that we overpaid for, but the by far the best receiver on our team.

Why did Holmes have a catch more and 100 yards more in 2010 yet played 4 FEWER games in 2010 compared to 2011 when he played 16 games!
Holmes hasn't caught more than 55 catches or had over 750 years receiving with the Jets and he has had his best tds stats with us.

    Now the tricky part is...

    J. Kerley just last year caught 56 catches for 820+ yards...

O yeah our offense was crap and he put up better numbers then Holmes. It's hard to defend Holmes bcuz his play is not Number 1 worthy. But he was our num. 1 and paid like one.

The offense was more dynamic with Braylon over the top. When Plax came to replace Braylon, he was still a great RZ threat, but outside the 20s he lacked the speed to get constant separation. More effort had to be given by the defense to stop Braylon from going down the field than Plax. That's the main reason I can think of.

J Kerley is going to be a great receiver for us

This thread is about trading Holmes but has any poster proposed a trade that's actually feasible? Is there a trade partner out there for Holmes?

My guess is his injury will be a drag on his market value, to at least some extent, until people get a better idea of his health.
