The teams' ability to cut a player is part of the agreed upon contracts. The players that hold out are not honoring the contract they signed.
Ummm....the defense cost us in both games. Where you out of the country ??? How did he play in the 2 AFC CG's ?????
If there wasn't the clause allowing Revi$ to void the last 3 years,Revi$ would have held out again last summer. He was unhappy about his contract last summer. He shouldn't be tweeting about Jets nation last week. He is not concerned about the Jets nation. He is worried about his pocket. Don't tweet anything and be quiet. Jacksonville drew the line on Jones-Drew He wanted to renegotiate the final two years of a five-year, $31 million deal that paid him nearly $22 million the last three seasons. Owner Shad Khan and general manager Gene Smith refused, not wanting to set a precedent of paying players in the middle of lucrative deals. Things got tense after Khan said publicly that Jones-Drew's absence "doesn't even move the needle." Khan also said his message to Jones-Drew is the "train's leaving the station. Run, get on it." http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8...ars-rb-maurice-jones-drew-ends-holdout-sunday Jones-Drew didn't get a new contract. Sit at home or honor the contract. The player signed it. Khan didn't want to establish a precedent. The Jets gave Revi$ a new contract in 2010 and then he wanted another contract in 2012.
Word is out Don’t forget Revis has already staged a successful contract holdout once before, in 2010. Who is to say he wouldn’t do it again? http://www.tampabay.com/blogs/bucs/content/bucs-fans-want-revis-theres-lot-consider
Yep. Darrelle Revis departure was basically guaranteed in 2010. You can't have a player that is going to hold out whenever his contract doesn't explicitly bar him from doing so. You can't build anything on quicksand and having your best player be a perpetual free agent looking for the highest deal he can get from you is the definition of quicksand.
Atlanta Falcons cap Revis was doing some sort of appearance for Nike and walked out sporting an Atlanta Falcons cap. Immediately, internet rumors were sparked and the possibility of Revis moving to Atlanta was a real possibility in the cyber world. http://fansided.com/2013/01/28/darrelle-revis-trade-rumors-could-atlanta-falcons-land-revis-island/
I met him once while he was wearing a Bills hat. It has nothing to do with affiliation to a team, its just for fashion and what the hat matches
After reading these: http://nyjetscap.com/2013_Articles/patriots-salary-cap.html http://nyjetscap.com/Patriots/patriots2014.php I dont think the Pats could sign Revis even if they wanted to.
Um, Revis NEVER said he was unhappy with his contact, and if he was going to hold out it would have been this year. He denied that BS rumor as soon as it came out.
This is an easy deal to work and teams would jump at it. Part 1 - This years 1st round pick. Every drafted player is a gamble, but teams would rather have a proven great player coming of inhjury than a unknown draftee. Part 2 - Next years third round pick. Becomes a 2nd round if he starts more than 8 games. Moves up to a 1st if he makes the probowl, if they have one. Whether or not they have a probowl, they will have a ranking and voting system and if he is a top two in his conference (AFC/NFL) it because a 1st round pick. So, worste case is we get a 1st and 2nd. If he gets hurt bad again and misses most the season we get a 1st and 3rd and we truly know we did the right thing by trading him.
Putting the dollar sign in Revis's name shows you are a very immature person, but I digress. Just saying. Revis was entitled to be unhappy last year. Yet he did not hold out. So what is the complaint about last year? He should not be concerned about his pocket? Are you not concerned about yours?
More nonsense from you. Once again, you are placing the whole blame for the situation in 10 on Revis. It takes two parties to negotiate a contract. With all your complaints about the Jets FO over the years, about Tanny, about other deals and moves they have made, and have not made, on THIS case you don't even consider whether the Jets bore some responsibility for the way those negotiations went. Did you blame Pete Kendall for not sucking it up when Tanny and Mangini put him in the rookie dorm and on the second team in practice? You know all the other examples. No. This is just more in keeping with your article of faith that CB is a position of unimportance in this league. WHich is nonsense.
In all of this you still haven't pointed to the teams that dominated based on their corners in the salary cap era. You haven't done this because you can't. They don't exist. Your response to this no doubt will be to talk about my nonsense instead of admitting that you don't have a leg to stand on.
What is holding the Jets back right now is their Qb. Who is highly paid. The only dominant team that won the SB without a great Qb was the Dilfer led Ravens and the Bucs, both with totally dominant D's. Your argument is ridiculous. It is Sanchez, not Revis and Cromartie, who is holding back the Jets.
Point to the teams that have been dominant based on their CB's in the salary cap era. I'm going to keep asking you to do this until you admit that they don't exist. The Jets have had Darrelle Revis for the better part of 6 seasons now. They are 41-39 in the games that he has played for them not counting the playoffs and that includes winning two games they were losing after he got injured and left the game. That's just not a record that says when Darrelle Revis steps on the field the Jets are a great team. He's a great player but that greatness does not make the Jets a great team. That makes him expendable when he starts asking to be paid as if he was the straw that stirs the drink. Peyton Manning and Tom Brady are worth that kind of money. Maybe Ben Roethlisberger too. Revis is not.
The Jets were 6 and 10 this year without DR that's substantially worse then 2 games over 500 with him even though there is little statistical evidence for either argument. It's a team game but we have lots of weak links and lots of overpaid players based on their production. Revis is going to be paid a stupid amount of money but based on his production when healthy he is clearly brings more value to the team then other over paid guys whose production is mediocre to outright crap. Now if I was certain the Jets were going to plug in value all over the place I can see the argument that moving on is a good move. That's far from certain.
They've been a .500 team with Revis. That wouldn't be possible if Revis had it in him to lift their play above mediocre status. He just doesn't. it's not his fault, it's the position he plays. The few teams that have won based on their defense have had multiple All-Pro caliber players in the lineup on that side of the ball. The 2000 Ravens had Ray Lewis, Rod Woodson (at FS), Sam Adams, Peter Boulware and Chris McAlister. They had a bunch of other very good players. The 2002 Bucs had Warren Sapp, Simeon Rice, Derrick Brooks, John Lynch and Ronde Barber. That's a lot of value in the middle of the field on both of those defenses, and they're the only defenses in the salary cap era that managed to carry a mediocre offense to a championship. Edge players are very overpaid in the NFL right now. They're overpaid because some really bad teams have made the judgment that having a $15M player on the edge really helps them, this despite the fact that they lose a lot of games. The Jets can't fall into that trap. Look at the really good teams around the league over any span of time and the thing that won't be there is edge players paid like they're dominating the middle of the field.
No it isn't. What is holding the Jets back is their offensive coaching staff. Even Westhoff called Sanchez serviceable, while denigrating the coaches. But hey...he's only at practice every day, and you're an expert on everything, so I'm sure you are correct.
Biggs, the 6-10 argument has more to do with Sparano being clueless, and gates, Gilyard, and Rueland. Not missing Mevi$. C'mon man!
