OL took too much blame this season from some posters. However, that doesn't change the fact that it badly needs talent infusion for next season. Moore is old/slow & his game is going downhill. Next year his performance should be going down yet again. Vlad has been terrible in zone blocking schemes & that's exactly what Jets are going back to. Howard was average @ RT. He wasn't good & he wasn't terrible. Jets don't have stud blocking TE to help out on the line Jets don't have good blocking RB or @ FB either. Jets need to acquire at least one OG good enough to come in and start via draft/trade/FA. Some people have pitched the idea of drafting a really good RT & pushing Howard to RG. If Howard pulls it off then it's a real stud move by the Jets. They'll upgrade 2/5 of the line with only one pick. Also, the weakest player would be sandwiched between Mangold & Brick.
I got the impression Tanny really played hardball with Slauson to reduce what was already a very low starting salary. If Jets & somebody else offered Slauson similar deals, I'd expect Slauson to leave.
So if the defense isn't one of the best next year, he will get blamed despite working with "scraps" and a new DC. I'm sure Jets fans would treat him reasonably if they did bad even though he had nothing to work with.
Rex has proven himself as a top defensive coach in the NFL. If his defense sucks I think it's reasonable to assume there is a talent problem. Then again, people being reasonable is a lot to ask. So given the fact that people mostly aren't reasonable it doesn't matter either way. Basically, who gives a shit what unreasonable fans think anyway?
Give me Gio/Powell Or Michael/Powell And we have a running game our O-lind could use 1 more impact player
It sucks but what's best for the team doesn't always fit what's best for the HC. Bill Belichick was well known for being a very good defensive coordinator. Those early Pats SB teams had very good defenses. Today fans that don't know better look @ his defense & think he sucks defensively. They overlook that he's been patching together scraps for years defensively. Rex has a good defensive rep but his offense is so broken that it can't be fixed in just one draft. Rex needs take advantage of his strengths to get that defense to over achieve while his offense begins a multi-year rebuild. His rep as a defensive guru is gonna be hurt by people who don't examine the situation closely. Rex defensive abilities will take unfair criticism from ignorant football people but it's the quickest way to turn this team around.
I believe it. O-line was good against the pass but there was no receivers getting open and the QB had to hold the ball longer and that looked bad on the line. To be fair tho they did suck in the run game but that also could do with our running backs.
How did they rate Sanchez ? And if the line was good at PB and RB, does that mean the WR's and RBs got good grades ?
I don't buy for a second that this line was even above average. They were average at BEST. How can you rank the run blocking at #3 when our rushing yards were ranked #12 and YPC was at #23, and had the #6 most sacks given up? That doesn't even make the least bit of sense. I'd like to know why the ranking are higher than our production. It must be a mole article. They want the Jets to think they have a good line so they don't address again and get demolished again.
Greene for 2, He is part of the problem. He isa good change of pace num 2 back. He is not a feature back on the Jets maybe. Maybe on the Packers or the Bengals he would be a num 1 back but we need to either get a real number 1 or move on from this guy
Most other Sanchez Fans feel the same way. Do you know how PFF rates players? Look it up, and you will have your answer how they grade out the Jets OL.
Kinda hard to believe. Guess that's what happens when your qb can't feel the pressure until its too late
I'm not concerned about the o-line. We have 3 guys (Mangold, Brick, Moore) who are pro bowlers. Howard and Slauson may not be ideal, but another year, or simply a serviceable replacement, would be just fine with the tools we have in place already.
