My bad, I though he asked about the senior bowl being on today, I missed where he asked if both would be playing.
Andre Ellington will look real good in a WCO. He's also coming from the pistol which I think Rex wants to run a little bit of.
#1) I'm all with you for trading down or doing whatever to stockpile an extra 2014 1st rounder to move up for my man Teddy. I also think if we end up with the #1 pick, or trade up for the #1 or #2 pick, we will fire Rex (obviously) and hire Kevin Sumlin from Texas A&M and draft Johnny Manziel. #2) It is looking more and more like Marcus Lattimore is going to be a Day 1 or early Day 2 pick a la McGahee. He's progressing at an AP-esque pace, which is hard to believe because Lattimore isn't the physical freak that AP is, but he could be ready by opening day and fully 100% by mid-late season. I am all for getting Lattimore, I've loved him since his first college game, but we may have to use our 2nd round pick. We could end up singing songs of happiness about that down the line when he's a Top 3 RB in the NFL and we have him on a cheap 2nd round rookie contract, and even when we re-sign him he can have an Arian Foster/AP/T-Rich impact in our offense.
If Bernard is there on the 2nd and the Jets have not yet made a move to get a starting HB I think he's going to be hard to pass up. He's Ray Rice Redux.
I dont care who it is but we need a franchise player if we trade revis we have Wilk and thats it for a face of this frnchise
Just watched Bernard's game against Virginia Tech and I now realize he is a beast and also a solid punt returner but he explodes when he gets the ball would love to see this guy in green and white
Dennis Johnson from Arkansas - the equivalent of a young Michael Turner when he first came to Atlanta. People bounce off this guy. Andre Ellington from Clemson - home run hitter, can run out of shotgun, can catch balls out of backfield, threat to take it to house everytime he touches the ball. Shades of CJ2K Rex Burkhead from Nebraska - always loved this guy. Not the fastest, not the biggest, not the strongest but great all around game and just gets the job done. Have always felt Nebraska RBs don't get enough love due to their scheme always giving RBs inflated numbers. But I loved Roy Helu and I like Burkhead too.
We need an every down RB. Bernard is probably the best fit if he's still there in Round 2. McKnight is a gimmick back, he should stick to kick returns which is where he is most effective. Powell actually has some decent potential. He had a decent year but never had a chance to get into a real rhythm due to the timeshare. Although Stepfan Taylor is intriguing. He was probably the most complete back I saw this entire year. Powerfully built, makes the first guy miss, shifty, runs extremely hard after first contact.
I have a feeling you are a Wisconsin fan. Bernard is the best back in this draft. He has all the tools to be a top 5 RB is the NFL.
Why do you say Mcknight is a "gimmick" back? He hasnt played much O because we had a power run system that just doesnt fit him. He hasnt shown much I gibe you that but he hasnt been given the opportunity. I reserve judgement til I see him fail in a proper offense.
I think most of you Guys are in fantasy land if you think Gio is going to be available to the Jets in Rd 2.
Regardless of the system, if you produce then you're going to get playing time. McKnight struggled at USC and that's why his stock dropped coming out of college. My assessment has nothing to do with a power run system. You still need change of pace backs in a power run system and when given the opportunity he struggled. The reasons why he's not an effective NFL back are a.) he runs way too high. You can run high if you're a power back like Eddie George and you can just plow through defenders and tacklers bounce off you. McKnight can't do that because he has a slim frame. And b.) he doesn't hit holes fast enough. Not sure if it's mental or just his style but he never explodes through the hole. However he does have value to the Jets as a kick returner. Very good in that one aspect only. Believe me, he won't get a lot of carries this year at RB.
6 yards a carry is "struggling" and "not producing"? Mcknight's issue has nothing to do with production, running too high, not exploding through the hole; it's a simple matter of trust. Rex and I'm guessing his RB coach don't trust him to hold on to the ball and to pass protect.
Another apologist. Here's the reality: If a coach doesn't "trust" you that's code word for not thinking that you can get the job done. He's not even an average NFL RB. He's a special teams player and that's all he is. He's been in the league 3 years, if he was any good he would've already shown it by now. Especially on a team with mediocre RB's like the Jets have. Way to pull out a useless stat too. 6 yards a carry on ONLY 30 carries. And add to that he had a 61 yard run in there. Take that run out and he's under 4 yards a carry. And most of his carries came in meaningless games in garbage time. And yes, it has EVERYTHING to do with running too high and not exploding through the hole. Do you think every player on every team in the NFL that doesn't play is because his coach doesn't "trust" him? They don't play because they are not any good, very simple.
Matt Forte (#44) and Ray Rice (#55) were both sitting there after the first flurry. Bernard is not Barry Sanders, Adrian Peterson, Marshall Faulk or Ricky Williams. He's not a big pounder with speed and he doesn't have the greatest moves on earth. He's been under the radar for the two seasons he's played and it's very possible he gets out to the 41. He probably will go late 1st/early 2nd but that will be a reflection of the quality of the draft. He had 184 carries this year. That's 70 less than most mainstay college backs. The rest of the backs on NC State had more carries combined than he had. That's not usually going to produce a 1st round pick.
All I said He wasn't going to make to the Jets in Rd 2, which is very possible. Gio will and should be a late Rd 1 pick, his producrtion speaks for itself.
I agree... But Im not sure if teams there need Gio. Seahawks, Patriots, 49ers, Ravens, and Broncos dont really need him. Falcons and Packers could use him, but I see them going in other directions in the 1st. In the early 2nd, the team that really would scare me is the Bengals. They have said they are going to look to add a dynamic RB in the draft... If he got there, I would without a doubt give up a late round pick to move up 3 spots. Besides the Bengals in the 2nd, you have the Jags, Cheifs and Eagles who definitely dont need him. Then there's the Lions and Cards who have much bigger needs. So if he can get by the Falcons and Packers, I think we could have a shot at him if we really love him through either us risking him getting past the Bengals or us making a small trade up (which I dont see how we couldn't- he's the perfect fit for this offense).
