Wilson is not a starting caliber CB on the outside. I did not think he had a good season this year. He is horrible in press coverage. He opens the gate giving a free release by failing to get a jam on his guy on every play. He doesn't have the fluidity in his hips or athleticism to mirror a guy step for step and get away with not jamming. His recovery speed is awful. There were so many times where he was clearly burned (San Fran game) and the QB just missed his WR. I think Wilson has been a massive disappointment. He's small, slow, not that good in coverage, doesn't tackle well, doesn't really have ball skills, and gets beat way too easily. I'm tired of hearing people say the Jets secondary was fine without Revis. No it wasn't. We got by, but we didn't play nearly as aggressively as we have in the past. We played a lot more zone coverage than man. And the final stats are skewed by the awful QB's the Jets played down the stretch: Jacksonville, Arizona, Tennessee, Bills, St Louis, and even the Chargers.
The other teams in our division who played nearly the same schedule and all of the teams you mentioned with the exception of the chargers didn't finish nearly as well in passing defense (10th, 27th, 29th). I mostly agree with your assessment on Wilson but we also don't need Cromartie as a #2 CB. I also agree we weren't as aggressive but our pass defense did finish 2nd with the 2nd best completion percentage against as well ... so it's not like they were good just because teams ran the ball more.
You're correct about his press ability, his coverage skills are inconsistent, but his tackling is surprisingly good considering his size. He wraps up the ball carrier pretty well when he has the right angle, but many times he fails at getting the angle. You need to come to terms with the fact that Revis is all but gone. I disagree with the premise of this thread, though. If the Jets get the Honey Badger, he needs to be converted to FS. He's too good at creating turnovers to be wasted outside the hash marks.
I have mocked him to the Jets and move Revis but do not see him in anyway as a replacement. I think he would be a dynamic returner, effective gunner, and nickle dime is about only field time i see. I think his size limits his role. In base formations he would be targeted. I don't question his heart, I do question his brain and would worry about him in any bigger city. Needs to show he gets it now and there really isn't the time to do that before the draft. Hard to go earlier than four and prob only if we gain some extra picks.

Clueless scouting? The guy was a star in college football and the fact that we are just taking a look at him is clueless now. For a late round pick he'd be a great pick up. The only thing holding him back is his off the field issues not on the field. Jim Leonhard was 5'9 and doesn't have half the physical ability.
He comes in as the third corner, Revis gets traded, and he challenges wi,son..,for the outside spot. The cap money that opens up, goes to Landry, and Bell. It's not rocket science. You're gambling on a young man maturing to replace (sort of) the greedy geezer you're looking to dump. And whatever pick you get for Mevi$, you take a flyer on this guy with the second you own.
So with the 2nd you get for Revis you'd spend it on another huge question mark when the offense is terrible? If that is the case bring back Tannenbaum. The whole point of getting rid of him was avoiding shit like another Ducasse when your team has holes all over the roster.
It's comical to me that you come up with all kinds of excuses and justifications for Sanchez, then want to get rid of one of the best players we've ever had to draft a guy with drug problems. Brains. Matheiu is a amazing talent that will be great in the NFL, however I am worried that he will have plenty of screwups once he starts making millions in his personal life which will cause distractions for his team
Did you fail to grasp the point? I said, you pick up a pick, and don't tie up ten percent of your cap space. You use that money to pay Landry, and Bell, and the pick to upgrade the second or third corner. As your ill considered retort says, there are holes to be plugged.
