This is one of the reasons why the Jets are playing this perfectly IMO. The way they approached it by floating the rumor they now gain some leverage with Revis if he really wants to remain a Jet. I highly doubt he takes any kind of discount, but he has to know now that the Jets aren't going to be held hostage by him. They also find out what kind of haul they can get for his services, how many teams are interested in a top corner and if they don't get what they want for Revis, they can turn around and offer Cromartie who actually saves some cap space if he's moved. It seems they have some good options right now.
While you are correct..lat least in this. Ause the posters for the most part..,late keeping with the facet in the thread..l,l
Ummmm...his position is cornerback. And he's probably the best talent in half a century. But you don't hamstring your cap.,,,for a corner. At least of you want to win.
I cannot tell you how much this thing drives me insane......lol At least your wit....makes it humorous... I'm still in timeout, because apparently riding the dog like its a horse IS FROWNED ON IN THIS ESTABLISHEMENT.
You're normally so well-spoken that I really can't help myself. You know we're still cool, so I have kept it going. I try to avoid the low-hanging fruit, but this one just... tastes... so... sweet.
I see there is going to be a tight race for the most clueless member award this year, with the silly comments in this thread. Revis is not the problem with this team, and trading him for a bunch of draft picks is stupid. You win with talent on your roster not draft picks. The problem is Sanchez and Holmes not Revis. There is no one in this draft that even comes close to Revis's talent level. Every time we have someone good, we trade them away and they win a ring somewhere else. And all we get is more draft picks..... And how many rings have we won in the last 20 years of trading players away for picks? None. "we have too many holes on this team", "we can't have x% of our cap invested in conerbacks" these comments are just not true. The Ravens won a ring by investing most of there cap to defense, why can't we do the same? The 49ners won a ring by paying Deon. The Bronco's would be in the Super Bowl right now if they had a shutdown conerback. I still remember Revis saving our season a few times. This teams only chance is to bomb next year and use the high draft pick to get a good quarterback. Any other move is asking for disaster. The only reason they want to move Revis is because that jerk Woody doesn't want to pay him. F@@k Woody.
Huh? Trading away players for draft picks? Under Tranny we've traded away more draft picks for over the hill talent than we've kept. And you're right, you win with talent. So with all the holes we have in talent we should pay Revis a ridiculous amount of money so we can't afford to fix any of the other holes? And what happens at the end of next season when some idiot offers him $20 million a year for 5 years? Are you saying we should then pay him $21 million a year, or should we just lose him and get nothing in return?
yes sir....... Johnson was traded on April 12, 2000 to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for two first round draft choices. Abraham was traded to the Atlanta Falcons in exchange for Atlanta's 2006 NFL Draft first round pick Vilma traded On February 29, 2008, to the New Orleans Saints for a fourth-round draft Trading away talent does not lead to rings. Period.
If Revis is healthy he is the best CB by far in the game and arguably the best of all time. 2 or even 3 first round draft picks will likely never replace a healthy a Revis. The problems for trading for Revis are; Is he healthy? And can a team afford the pricetag? Some of the picks should be conditional on playing time and pro bowl. If his price is $15 million that is 2-4 very good players which really limits what one would give up for him. If its only $12 million Revis is a good buy especially if the contract has performance incentives protecting he buyer against injury or poor play. The Redskins gave up 3 first round picks and a 2nd round pick for a QB that had not played a down in the NFL. They seem to have struck gold. But it was no sure thing. To me even an injured Revis is a better risk than spending that much on a risk/reward QB. The Redskins could have traded all that and got the next Sanchez/AKili Smith/ Ryan Leaf. Revis to me is a much better bet. If he recovers he has the potential to play at high level for another 10 years as his game is not built on speed or athleticism like Cro's. It looks like the Jets are going to give away Revis. It is very sad and it all goes back to the bad contract Rex (and possibly Woody) forced Tanny into. Tanny said he hated the contract and did not want to give in as it gave Revis all the leverage. Giving up the ability to restrict Revis with the Franchise Tag was such a terrible decision. The contract should have been redone or he should have been traded last offseason. Even with the injury Revis has more leverage now than he did last year. One thing also to keep in mind is what happens if we do not trade or resign Revis. If we lose more FAs than we sign we will net a 3rd round compensatory pick for Revis. Which is basically equivalent to an early 4th.
Simple, he either signs an extension or trade him before the deadline. And like I already said , our "Holes" are already either filled with over payed bums (Sanchex, holmes) or because of lack of scouting talent and draft picks in this years draft are not going to fix that problem.
He's a fucking diva. That plays AWAY from the ball. Did you learn nothing from the Haynesworth debacle? Take the best pick you can get (he was a 15) while shipping him to someplace shitty....and end the drama.
1) Who were the corners on that Ravens team? 2) How many superbowls did the Niners win before Deion arrived? 3) Please compare the overall talent on those teams you mentioned with the 2012 Jets. 4) Revis is almost certainly gone to the highest bidder after 2013 if we try and keep him so we might as well get what we can now to help rebuild this team. Would you rather have him walk - possibly to the Patriots or trade him to the Vikings for some rebuilding chips? 5) We're in rebuild mode, not win now mode.
Give us a second round pick and take Sanchez along with Revis. We would be back in business in no time cap wise. Then shitcan Wrecks after this season, and let the sensible rebuild begin.
There is no comparison. Revis is not a diva, doesn't have a work ethic problem and is by all reports is a great teammate. Revis' only fault is that he wants more money. Who dosen't? Revis has produced every year while Haynesworth only produced in his contract year. Haynesworth had laziness issues and character issues. Completely the opposite of Revis. Your Haynesworth/Revis analysis seems to have as much credibility as your Romney will win in a landslide prediction and your Sanchez fantasyland apologist posts. Wanting to keep to dump Revis in a fire sale and keep and build around Sanchez said it all.
