Idzik will gut the roster. This team won't look anything like the Jets from 2011 and 2012. That's a positive. They won't be very good in 2013 but they're setting the table for 2014 and beyond.
I don't know why everyone keeps making us transition to a 4-3 with Wilk/Coples on the outside and Ellis/Pouha on the inside. In a 4-3, Coples and Wilkerson will both play DT. Coples LDT and Wilkerson RDT most likely. Coples struggled (relative of course) at DE during his senior year- which was one of the reasons he went from being a top-5 pick to dropping down to us. If we transition to a 4-3 base, we need: TWO DEs an MLB (I don't think Harris is well suited to play MLB in a 4-3. Not nearly fast enough or good enough in coverage) one OLB (Davis will probably take the Sam) That's more than half of our front 7. Staying in a 3-4 would need: Two OLBs possibly a MLB if you feel Harris is done. Anything is possible with our roster gutting upcoming, but I'd be shocked to see us in a 4-3 set this upcoming year.
That's my feeling also. I think the Jets are going to handle every headache they possibly can this off-season and only hold onto the issues that just cannot be addressed.
Am I crazy to be optimistic and think MM and his WCO might help Mark and turn him into something? It's based on quick reads and check downs with short passes.
worse, i thought we would bebetter but without Revis will are gonna slip into the dark ages, Idzik will get fired next season and Woody will come out and say "trading Revis was forced on me!" to the next gm candidates, and Rex will get a 10 year deal after a 2-14 season
You do realize that this is not anything new. We did on occasion play 4 man fronts where Coples and/or Wilkerson have had the opportunity to play end. Switching to a base 4-3 is the easiest way to deal with the LB attrition.
-Gut the roster - Stockpile picks - Win 2 or 3 games - Send Rex packing - Hope you are the worst team in the league that needs a QB and draft Manziel
It's not going to be 2 or 3 wins. The Jets probably aren't going to be good next year given the lack of talent available, however they're still going to win 5 or 6 games. Sanchez was basically throwing games away for a lot of the season chucking at practice squad players who couldn't run routes or get separation and they won 6 games anyway. Next year will be better than that on offense. The defense may not be at quite the same level but it's a Rex Ryan defense, they'll hold their own.
