Not to knock Revis, but every athlete says the same thing. When they reach their new team then it's "I'm so happy to be on a team that welcomed me like family. It was never about the money I just wanted to be in a place where I feel I belonged.".

In a pass happy league the most important thing is not giving the other team's QB time to throw. You can have Revis covering one player all day, but what about all of the rest of the receivers?

Fact is that CB is probably one of the least important positions on both sides of the ball. The fact that Revis wants to be paid like a star QB is crazy.

The Jets are a loser franchise. Wouldn't you rather at least get to watch greatness the next 5 years than still suck and not watch greatness? I would go to a game just to watch Revis. Now? Forget it.

Ding ding ding, we have a winner! These points were not overlooked. I stated in my original post that trading him at this point in his career makes no sense at all (coming off surgery, 1 year left on contract, age, etc.). Therefore, we should NOT trade him. It should not even be a consideration this offseason. If there was a time to trade him, it was in the PAST. There will never be a right time to trade him anymore, that window has closed.

That is why the Jets should NOT trade him, no way no how, because there is no way anyone gives us adequate value for him.

    The Jets have 2 options:

    1. Let Revis play out his contract and try to resign him next offseason as a FA.

    2. Extend him now.

Considering our cap situation and the number of players that are FAs, I think #2 is really not an option right now. So, simply let him play out his contract, fix the cap situation, and try to resign him next year when we have the cap room to do so. If we still do not, he walks next year. But at least we get him in 2013 no matter what. A full year to evaluate him and see what kind of new contract he is worth next offseason.

If they trade Revis i really might just walk away from this team for a few years. They just do things so ass backwards in this franchise. Detroit has problems. do you see them trying to trade Johnson? Why trade your best player? They cam pay him after the 2013 season is it going to be 15 million....no, but who is going to pay him that kind of money?

Because a stud WR is more important to a team than a stud CB. Not sure why people can't grasp this concept.

So let me get it straight.... you are perfectly happy to watch Jets go 6-10, but trading 1 players and likely improving team overall will cause you to stop watching?!
    Good riddance

Oh, and you're right about Revis not wanting $15M... He'll likely ask for close to $16M.

Bullshit! Just like someone else posted on here, this league has become a passer friendly league. Teams are passing like crazy and just as this year panned out, defense once again prevails. You got San Fran and Baltimore, 2 power house defenses. Defense is one of the only bright spots on this team and now we are gonna trade away not only our best player, but arguably the best corner to ever play this game?

Rex thrives with his defense. Now that we have a competant OC, things could turn around. Let me tell you, this is such a great time to trade Revis. And yes, this team does things ass backwards. We argue and fight with Revis' agents regarding his contract negotiations, but yet we pay the kind of money we paid Holmes and Sanchez? Are you kidding me?

I couldnt disagree more. Revis is a once in a lifetime talent. Arguably the best to ever play the position. He shuts down half a field. What don't u get about this? Its not rocket science. Receivers are easier to find than talent like this on the defensive end. Your best and most popular play because basically the owner wants to be frugal. This is very short sighted by an owner who needs to step back and shut up. Let your football people make these decision. This isnt best for long term, its a short fix. He is the best defensive player in football, keep him period, end of story. Hes not just some corner.

Some of the stuff that's been posted here is quite amusing. So, you'd rather have Revis than have a chance to improve other parts of the roster? You'd rather have Revis and remain the same mediocre Jets than rebuild the roster and have a chance to make a playoff run in a few years? The Jets are going nowhere in 2013, and most likely in 2014 as well, with Revis or without him. So, why not trade him and get some younger players that will have impact in 3-4 years when the Jets might actually be in a position to make a run?
As I've said before, it's just stupid to have 16%+ of cap space spent on the two starting cornerbacks when there are huge holes all over the roster.

This team is not that bad that they need to trade him. You're a fool if you think it is. This team hung in more games with the gross incompetence of an offense we had. Hell we would have made the playoffs if it weren't for the putrid offense. People need to put things in perspective. We need our defense to be better that average if we expect to compete anytime trading Revis doesn't do that.

    From CBS Sports...

That won't happen. Unless the Jets want Ryan Mallet or something

I totally disagree with your take on the importance of a shut down Cb.

First of all, Revis routinely negates the value of the best wideout on every opponent the Jets face.

Second, in the Jets' man coverage scheme, the ability to play the opponent's number one in man coverage means the rest of the D can play ten players covering the rest of the opponent's O. Teams that do not have a cb capable of playing man coverage against the opponent's #1 receiver have to cover him with two, and this usually locks them into a base zone coverage.

In short, underestimating the value of a shut down corner indicates a lack of football knowledge, and i do not say that lightly.

Because he is a proven commodity and the best defensive player in football. Hes only 27 and I don't think you trade him for unproven commodity. Do you trust the Jets drafting ability that much? If we were talking Cro or someone like that, I get it, but Revis is a once in a lifetime talent. honestly if he plays this year....we most likely make the playoffs with the defense playing well.

If Idzik is stupid enough to trade to the Pats, he needs to head his ass back to Seattle.

I seriously doubt it would happen as the Patriots don't have many picks.

Why can't the Jets re-sign Revis and move Cromartie? There just has to be a way to keep him. Like you said, the Jets are going nowhere for the next couple years. That is why I feel it would be nice to have a bright spot, like Revis, to watch. Not like he is super old or something. By the time the Jets are re-tooled for a serious run in 2015 or 2016, Revis will still be good.

I'm sure there will be other bright spots besides Revis. What if Revis tears his ACL again within the second week of the season next year? Would you still want him then...?

Give him to another team, let THEM deal with that possibility, and get back to fielding a competitive team, not the Revis show.

Revis' impact on our team often gets overlooked because of our lack of pass rush. stay with me here, Revis takes the opposing teams best receiver out of the play, so he forces the QB to look elsewhere. if we had any kind of pass rush, with that time it takes the QB to look at Revis' side then switch to another target we could be getting sacks, forcing fumbles, INTs, etc.

I think we should keep Revis, extend himfor 4-5 yrs. trade Cromartie who we can get a lot of value for, proved to be elite this season and is coming off a Pro Bowl year.
