You are too optimistic junc. Way too optimistic. Sanchez is done as a starter. Root for someone else who deserves your support.
He did the same thing last year when we hired Tony. It does not matter who he calls untill he leanrs not to throw late, into coverage, off his back foot.
Sanchez may not be great, but he puts in the effort it seems. Still, by the time the Jets are playoff contenders again: Sanchez, Rex, Revis, Holmes, etc will all be gone.
I think it was Woody on ESPN. He spent the good part of a few different shows bashing Mark this year.
The problem is you can't fix stupid. Sanchez makes the dumbest decisions I have ever seen on a football field. No excuses for it anymore hes been a pro for over 6 seasons. He will never get any better then he already is. He's not smart enough to be a QB.
Would you count McElroy as legitimate competition? Obviously, a 3rd guy will be brought in, too. There's no easy answer to this. The best solution is if either Sanchez or McElroy becomes a legitimate starting option because both are young enough where they still have some upside (though it's starting to wane for Sanchez, obviously). Trading a draft pick to get a stopgap quarterback, just to hold Sanchez accountable, isn't an idea I'd really support. I don't think the difference between Alex Smith and Tarvaris Jackson, for instance, is worth trading a 2nd round pick.
No, not at all. McElroy showed very little talent last year. His arm is still weak and he is noting more than a back up, game manager type at best. He may be a leader and a good guy, but you still need to have the physical skills to do the job and I see him as completely lacking in that area. We need to bring in a vet and a draft pick to push/replace Mark. I think with Idzik we will see the time for coddling has past by and no one is safe, which is exactly what this team needs.
lmao, hell no. You aren't getting much with Alex Smith. If Norv or Harbaugh ain't coming I want nothing to do with Alex Smith. This obsession with Alex Smith needs to stop.
Did you watch any Jets games last year? the guy who throws peanuts to fans had more yards then the entire Jets QB roster.
How? He was drafted in 2009. Went to the championship game twice with good teams and was terrible on terrible teams. He is an average QB.
Jets had the best defense in the league .. and 5 seasons, still no excuse. Defense can win SB's Ravens VS Giants is the best example I can think of.
I hate defending Sanchez, but he has only played 4 seasons, two involved 4 playoff wins, one involved going 8-8 on a team that was a disaster and one involved going 6-10 when everything on the team was terrible. No way is he a good QB, but he is as good as a Joe Flacco. Put the right team around him and he will win. Obviously the last two years he has had complete crap around him in New York.
we had the best D in the league by rankings in 2009, we never had a truly great defense and we lost both title games b/c of the play of the defense not b.c of the play of the QB. He's a QB we know we can win big w/ if surrounded w/ the right pieces. if not he's not going to carry an average team like a Brady or Peyton can.
Put the right team around him he still makes stupid decisions with the football. How many times has he turned it over in the red zone? I don't even have to look it up to know it a lot. Flacco is a much smarter QB then Sanchez.
The WCO is all about rhythm, so if he can master the system, he won't be off time with his throws or throw off his back foot. But please remember, that timing is a two way street. If the receiver is not where Sanchez expects him to be when he expects him to be there, then the timing will be off.
I agree with you that the stupid decisions are the biggest problem w/him. The one that always pisses me off is when he continues to try doing something with the football when the sack is inevitable and it results in a fumble. Eat the ball, live to see another day. That said, with good coaching (Tom Moore) we saw him have tremendous redzone success in 2011 with few bad decisions. Morningwoods offense sounds like it's supposed to make the decisions easier. Maybe he can pull a rabbit out of his ass with tremendous coaching effort.
