Chance Warmack seems like the way to go here. He is a sure thing and a cant miss player and our new offense won't take a huge blow with learning a new system
No guard ever is worth a top 10 pick. If we are moving him to RT, fine, otherwise its a waste, there is no way an interior lineman has that much value, it's such an easy position to fill effectively in the later rounds or cheaply in FA. We need an offensive playmaker or a passrusher in Rd. 1. We definitely don't need another lineman making first round money.
I understand your argument about over-investing in one area of the team. However, this year is a good year to use at least one pick in the first two rounds on the offensive line. The top of this draft class appears suspect at the Jets' positions of need apart from the OL. Warmack and Cooper are projected to be stud guards. Jockel, Fluker, and Cooper -- maybe even Johnson out of Ok -- are projected to be good NFL tackles. So there's good value in filling out the OL with a pick in either round 1 or 2. If the Jets could solidify the RT and OG spots for the next decade with this draft, I think that it's worth doing. No more WFH style mistakes on the OL. It would provide the offensive with base line consistency that it needs for success. Just my $0.02
I was much higher on Warmack to the Jets if we stayed with a ground and pound, man blocking scheme. With the WCO and a likely switch to zone blocking the need is not as great to spend high on the perfect mauler type. One of Jones, Werner, Jordan or Ansah is more likely at this point. We are going to gut our LB core and need a presence on the edge to force teams to single block an edge rusher or one of Coples or Wilk.
Thanks for this. I was hoping that someone would expand on the role of the WCO on the offensive line in the other thread because I'm really not familiar with the change in responsibilities or the types of linemen that the Jets need to run it.
We ran Zone blocking scheme untill Sporano switched to a Man blocking scheme this year. The Man Blocking scheme tends to want big, powerful blockers. A zone scheme places a higher priotity on mobility than pure power. Here is a decent read on it. http://hiteminthemouth.blogspot.com/2010/01/man-blocking-vs-zone-blocking-with-gaps.html
We need offensive playmakers. We don't need to be drafting more lineman in the first two rounds. Draft an OL in rounds 3/4. That's a waste of a pick when our O Line isn't the biggest concern on this team. RB, WR. Those should be the first two picks for the Jets. Otherwise our offense will be putrid again next year. Even if the QB situation sucks for us in 2013 you still need playmakers for the future. This team's biggest problem is lack of Offense. An O lineman isn't gonna be running or catching any TD's.
this. this team needs dynamic players that strike fear in the opposing team. someone who has to be game planned for.with the 9th pick the jets need to find some one who can change the game in 1 play. find that guy and this team starts moving forward
You obviously do not follow the draft, perhaps you should read some threads in this forum and learn a thing or two.
You obviously didn't ready my post if you have no substantive comeback. Boring. So tell me how you think we are going to address the lack of talent and team speed from our RB and WR positions. Maybe you need to learn a thing or two about the current state of this team. I guess you don't realize our offense sucks. Do you think the Pats are going to come out of the tunnel and say "We have to gameplan for that Warmack guy today?" LOL Save your zone blocking scheme crap for someone gullible enough. Offensive playmakers, tell me who they are.
The Jets can upgrade their front 7 until they're blue in the face. Yet if they don't upgrade their offensive skill positions it doesn't matter if their defense is the Steel Curtain. The glaring issue on this team....lack of offense.
WR/RB Jets grab in the first round is not going to be much better than what they can grab in rounds 2 & 3. However, the talent Jets can grab @ OLB & OL in first round has the potential to be elite. For this particular draft, the elite talent in this lies in the defensive front 7 and a couple OL players. ======= In the long run it's a disaster for teams to target certain positions no matter what. They've gotta find that balance between their needs & where the talented difference makers exist. Your idea of targeting the team's weaknesses & ignoring the strength of the draft is the right attitude when the priority is for quick fixes. Check out some mock drafts & read up on the top college prospects this draft. I think you'll change your mind about going WR/RB 1st & 2nd rounds. Next year's draft is looking to have more elite talent in the offensive skill positions (especially QB).
Yeah don't get me wrong I wouldn't mind getting some OLine help this draft. Even in the first round, but not at 9. Trade back get extra picks pick and maybe even take another OL in the second. What I'm saying is like you said over-investing.
