Yeah Ocho would take needed reps away from Hill, and thats what Braylon would be kept for. Also, I don't know about our D next year. We need to find at least 2 LBs and 2 Safety's.
really only need 1 lb 1 safety. mcentyre will tak b.t's spot and a rush olb should be a top proirity in the draft. bell should come back on a manageable contract considering his age. hopefully one of the kids from last years draft steps up
Alex Smith is not even 30 yet. If he comes here n plays well he can be here for 7-8 years. He was the #1 overall pick a few years ago and was playing GREAT Football b4 he got hurt. Ocho would be a band aid admittedly, but Smith would be almost like when NO got Brees. Its not anywhere near a Jets Testaverde or Cardinals Warner in age. Smith might be able to play close to another decade or at worse, 6-7 more years. Far from a "band aid" IMHO
I would think Alex Smith would be a good fit for the Jets. Perhaps not great, I should say likely not great, but good, maybe even very good. I agree he probably has well over five years starting ahead of him. My problem seeing him and the Jets, however, is he may require too much money.
Alex Smith is an awful fit for the Jets. He's nothing without Jim Harbough. Unbelievable how people think Alex Smith can come here and just fix everything, he's garbage and was benched for a reason.
This is a common misconception . . . His "breakout" (relatively speaking) season occurred in 2009, two years before Harbaugh even got to SF. Having said that, Alex Smith is a decidedly mediocre player.
Alex Smith did not break out 2 years before Harbaugh came to the 49ers. 49er fans were booing this sucker off the field week in and week out. #s were pedestrian at best for a former #1 overall pick. He's a product of Harbaugh. Norv tried reviving his career and I think he helped Smith get better, but you put Alex Smith here, he's not going to succeed. He has issues getting the football to his WRs and while he's mobile he's not very accurate either. He's not going to win us games. If we want someone that doesn't make mistakes to start, just start McElroy. I'm not giving Alex Smith starter money to come here.
Vocabulary and context are your friends. I didn't write that he "broke out" in 2009, I wrote that he RELATIVELY (as in, played much better than he had in the past) "brokeout" in 2009. Also, I put the word "breakout" in quotes to further emphasize that 2009 wasn't some special breakout performance, but merely a stark improvement over what he had done prior to 2009. And once more, I'm not saying that Alex Smith is a solution to our problems. I'm saying that if we aren't going to immediately cut bait with Sanchez (something I would look long and hard at doing), we have to bring in someone, ANYONE, who can play the position and legitimately challenge him for the starting job. In that regard, Alex Smith is about as good as anyone currently available.

They are all mediocre players, smith...Moore...and Flynn. Jackson doesn't rise to that level... Sanchez is far more talented, than anyone in that basket. Given the mediocrities he's been coached by, but the performances he has put on in some spots...the jury is out on him till MM gets a shot with him. Cap numbers dictate that it's going to happen, so the discussion is purely mental masturbation.
I understood what you were saying, broke out / breakout, you are implying the same thing. You said he was playing well before Harbaugh came around and that's completely false. Alex Smith has a real issue getting the ball to his play-makers. The only exception was him checking down to Vernon Davis. You think Sanchez gives you headaches? Wait until you see Alex Smith, he'll give you a headache I promise you that. Alex Smith in reality isn't that much better than Mark Sanchez. Smith the past 3 or 4 seasons has had better coaching and you could argue he's had better skill players as well. Cut Sanchez, pay Alex Smith starter money? That will absolutely kill the cap and put us in a deeper hole then we are now. We can bring in Matt Moore / Drew Stanton for the fraction of the price. Rather sign one of those guys, suck then draft a brand new QB in 2014.
I don't know about a bad day, because we've seen what Mark can do on a bad day ... I want to see a fair competition between Matt Moore / Drew Stanton vs Mark Sanchez vs McElroy. From there if Mark wins, he deserves to start and be on a short leash.
Sanchez is horrible. He has no QB sense. At least when Brett Favre threw the ball into triple coverage,he had a cannon of an arm.
