Idzik reports to Woody...Woody wants something, it will get done. Big contracts and big trades get an owner's blessing first before becoming official...A GM can't do those on his own.
...and that is exactly why Mike Tannenbaum is gone. As someone else just mentioned, he left this team with a ton of horrible contracts and is handicapping how the team can move forward
Look at it this way. The person that designed those contracts paid the price and the person that has to pay those contracts is going in a different, and hopefully more sensible direction now. This is the painful part. It will get better down the road.
It isn't of not willing to pay him, the Jets could and will be outbid. It's a bad contract, we can't franchis him, he's an URFA.......get over it and accept it.
To be fair, Tannenbaum got Revis into camp that year, and Revis is now coming off a torn ACL. If the Jets choose to resign him, the figures might not be for as high as they were before. But if they don't choose to resign him, or Revis still wants ridiculous money, you have to trade him. You can't let him walk for a compensatory pick next year. I mean, maybe you can wait til the trade deadline, but that would be unprecedented, and it would look awful if the Jets were in contention. I'll say this, the Jets better get a big haul for Revis in a trade. I'll feel a little sick if they let Revis walk for just one pick, and it's hard to say what he'd get coming off an injury with one year on his deal (and no tag available). He's so good at his craft it's amazing to watch. I'm pretty confident he'll be a Hall of Famer, and if he is, he probably won't go in as a Jet if we move him now. He's the best cornerback in the NFL, it's tough to get rid of guys who are that good and are good guys.
dont tell me to get over something first of all 2nd of all if Idzik is this cap genius then he can work out a deal with the best defensive player in the NFL
You don't go into the pro football HOF with a team. I didn't know that until it was brought up w/Curtis Martin.
just a thought, anyone think this is a little posturing to let revis know they are ready to move on if he asks for too much
I see that getting rid of Pettine, didn't eliminate the leaks coming out of Floraham Park. I AM SICK OF THIS FUCKING SIDESHOW OF AN ORGANIZATION!! Conduct business normally. Every fucking contemplated move does not have to make it way into the press!!
If we can get some good picks for him, i'd be all for it A CB of Revis caliber is not paramount in order to be a championship team. I would say gaving a good QB, Oline or pass rusher are more important than a CB. I mean which of the CBs on the current superbowl team are top 10 CBs in the NFL? Maybe Rogers?
No. It's a given that he will ask for too much because if the Jets don't pay too much he gets to go on the road as an unrestricted free agent where somebody will pay him too much.
You do realize that this was probably a controlled leak...and it's not coming from the likes of Manish.
Ok tough guy!! Relax......You just don't understand Revis' contract. Has nothing to do with the cap, it's Revis contract that he's free from the jets after 2013.
For those of you claiming this to be "dumb" or consider this a horrible idea, tell me, who are the shut down corners on the following teams who've been in the SB the last 2 years?? Who's the shutdown corner on the Niners? Who's the shutdown corner on the Ravens? Who's the shutdown corners on the Giants? Who was the shutdown corner on the Patriots?
This could very well be a trial balloon to gauge the interest other teams might have regarding Revis.
