Availability and affordability aren't the same thing... Okay, Greg Jennings will make $8 million a year minimum. Braylon will make $1.5 million a year maximum. As good as Amendola is, Kerley and Holmes can both play that similar type of role. And Cribbs? I'd definitely take Cribbs on this team for the right price, but even he'd demand more than Braylon.
We are gonna be 40 million over the cap once we cut Tebow,Pace,E-Smith,Jason Smith,Bart Scott , Then Landry,Keller,Greene,Moore are the only question marks as far as resigning , there will be money available after contracts get restructured and we make cuts, If we have to use the Landry money to sign a big WR and let him walk im all for it, Keep Bell for another year. As much as i like Landry we need to fix the offense
Yes i do, Braylon has been cut twice by playoff teams 2 weeks before the playoffs two years in a row but for some reason he is a stud in NY???? i don't get it.If Sanchez is no longer the QB there's no point in bringing back Edwards
I don't wanna keep him but we can afford a 1 year deal, The cap isn't gonna look like it does now in a few months before free agency
Braylon is a constant injury risk, he hasn't had a good season in years, been six years since his last (and only) 1000 yard season, his hands are suspect, and he has off field issues that cause a distraction. The offense has to be completely rebuilt from top to bottom and B. Edwards shouldn't be in those plans. LMFAO Sanchez running the WCO with Edwards, so a QB who can't accurately throw and a "#1" receiver who can't catch as the foundation of your West Coast Offense? I can't think of a worse plan than having Sanchez run the west coast offense. Hell who the hell runs the WCO anymore? Besides Walsh who in modern history has won anything with it? At least Rex is moving from the 50s with his GNP philosophy into the 80s with his WCO.
Why on earth would you say no to a quality veteran receiver who can be had for peanuts, especially one with whom we've had success in the past? Rebuilding doesn't mean getting rid of everyone and only signing players under 25. It means making a youth movement while retaining and signing quality veterans with some gas left in the tank and/or leadership qualities. We're not talking about a Holmesian contract and commitment here...at this point he's just about as low risk and high reward as it gets.
Except Braylon wouldn't be the #1. Holmes would be. Kerley would be in the mix, too, plus Hill in his second year hopefully will be better. I'm not saying Braylon is a must-bring-back, but he's cheap, he's had success with our $13M quarterback, and he stepped in off the street and was our best WR this year, not that that says a ton. You'd be paying him close to the minimum probably. That's definitely a player worth strong consideration.
Actually that does say a ton (although, I'll say Kerley was our best WR) but it was so sad to see how much better Edwards looked than the rest of them.
Which was SIX more than any other wide receiver in that timeframe. Holmes and Kerley are going to be part of this offense. The Jets definitely need a #2 to plug in there. I'm not convinced Braylon is that guy, but if the Jets are going to bring in two guys and have them compete for that spot, then I think Braylon is a good option.
Once we get under the cap we will have 25 spots to fill. We have 20 now and five soon to be cuts will make it 25. Even at 400+k for rookies and 700+k for minimum vets what money we free up won't go far.
If you want to go off tiny sample sizes and skew stuff Holmes even with the injury, Kerley, and Cumberland were all better making him at best our 4th best receiver. Anytime you have a 10 catch sample size to call him our best anything is ridiculous.
Anything we can do to save money will help us this year. Edwards has existing chemistry with Sanchez and will undoubtedly be cheap. I'd rather have him than Gates or Schilens that's for sure. Get him in for a full training camp. Hill probably needs a little more time. Kerley-Holmes-Edwards-Hill seems like it would be a solid unit. Get Edwards cheap so we can spend money on the line, which is where we need it most, IMO.
That's the only sample size I have to work with, and in that time frame, he was the most productive. It was an extremely low bar that was set, but he was fine. My point is that for close to the veteran's minimum, why would you rule him out already? He's far from a must-resign, but considering the Jets cap situation and the fact that he already has a rapport with Sanchez, why rule him out now? He'd be a no-risk signing, and if he were a problem, you could cut him in a heartbeat, unlike Holmes.
I'd sign him for the vet minimum.....where else is he going? This guy still has alot left in the tank....fire in the belly, and i think Rex has a soft spot for him.....Fuck sanchez
I have always been an advocate for Edwards, but I have to admit I was nervous when he came back this year. I wasn't sure what to expect. Personally, I think he showed that he still has the skills (great catch against Buffallo in particular), is still aggressive, and he hustles big time. I can't see him asking for much, and any other FA option is probably going to demand much more money.
I wouldn't mind giving Greg Jennings a 3-4 year contract depending on what he has left in the tank 1. Holmes 2. Jennings 3. Kerley 4. Hill
