Ya MM will be pushing for a new QB... Rex cant stand him anymore either... Should be an interesting off-season for our Jets.
if i had my way McElroy would be the starter. Lets see what he can do with ota's, mini camp, training camp and a preseason. He is already on the roster and he makes chump change (by pro sports standards). But I would understand if the new gm and MM would want to pick their own QB since McElroy wasn't their pick.
Moore starter McElroy backup mid round draft pick #3 Turnover machine inactive scout teamer #53 on the 53 man roster Teblow -- POS gone as soon as it is legal to dump him
The is a team that has no direction if the new oc is pass happy. Our offense should be built to the strength of our defense. Run heavy, counters, traps misdirection; with bootleg play action pass dagger. To implicate a west coast offense with the protection and quarterbacks we have now is to run into the same wall, but from a different direction; the results are the same. Build on the ground and perfect the bootleg play action pass. Otherwise, dump smash mouth gNp Rex Ryan.
and this doesnt sound bad at all.. but due to the fact MM has always been WCO it wont happen it will take too long to round up the players and personal for WCO.. its pointless imnot for the WCO ..but i wouldnt mind the idea you are putting forth we need the same level of physical play as the defense,Bootlegs are what sanchez is atleast decent at ...since we are stuck with him most likely we need a Running Back,Wide receiver and a Offensive Line
I don't even think GnP was the problem, we just didn't have a QB that can make plays when we needed. A run oriented offense can work, look at what SF, Sea, Wash, Minny etc has done this year. They all have two things in common, great runningbacks (Gore, Lynch, Morris, AP) and QB's that can plays (Kap/Smith, Wilson, RGIII, Ponder) we were trying to be GnP but had average RB's and a shitty QB.
Agreed. No matter what philosophy/scheme you choose you're gonna need talent to pull it off. Jets wanted to Ground & Pound and entered last season with WFH @ RT. No solid blocking TE. Didn't try to upgrade either of their Guards. One dimensional FB. They had below average RB & their #1 Shonn Greene is one of the worst RB in the league in getting yardage after contact & can't catch a pass. They lacked the QB/WR combo to punish teams that sit in the box also. Ground & Pound is not a problem. However, trying Ground & Pound with the weak-ass talent Jets had on offense is a huge problem.
Hence Tanny was fired, and Rex with his lack of appreciation for offense is on a short leash. We all agree with the lack of talent we fielded last year, particularly when the injuries started to build up. Now is time to put all that behind us and give Iz and MM sufficient time to go fix the mess we are in, not the least of which is a bloated contract for a QB that is marginal at best. WCO takes many forms, so that the R and P, there is no fixed formula for either. In my opinion we got ourselves in a mess that will take any good GM and CS quite a bit of time to fix. I am surprised that many on this site continue to trash the selections of GM and OC, make bold assumptions about the offense going forward, that we are going to a full blown WCO, that Rex loves the WCO (If he so loved it why did he pick Sparano and jam the G and P up our collective you know what? ) without giving them the chance to establish their footprint. Totally agree that there is no substitute for talent, and our first incline as to what direction we are taking is in this years draft. Time will tell
I'm a crimson tide fan so i agree BUT for McElroy to be successful we need a better ground game period
i agree, braylon is resigned, the o line improved in the draft, and add a rb in fa, i think that's enough for him to work with.
How about we find out what a real OC can get out of the guy we have. There is a secondary point to consider...if MM can get him where he should have been, he'll still be young, and we'd be able to extend him below market. His current body of work is so lacking, that no real agent would have him play out his contract. Now you have cap room you can allocate elsewhere....trade Revis for two first rounders in consecutive years, and you're in business. (I love Revis, but let's face it he's a cap killer, and a headache, and they played excellently without him)
I don't think he's the answer either, but instead of bringing in a retread, lets see what McElroy can do, if he plays above expectations then we have our QB, if not then at least we'd be in a position to draft a QB
Can't just give him the job he has to earn it, Let's see what he does in training camp and in pre-season first.
Eagles fan here. A little of what to expect from Marty as your OC: 1. Loves the pass as you probably know. He has a higher career passing % than Andy Reid does. You will be passing a lot as long as he calls the plays. Probably somewhere between 62-65%. 2. Very bright guy, but play calling can be inconsistent at times. Like running play action fakes 3rd and 10 with 1 minute to go. They know you won't pass on that play. 3. Tends to get a bit predictable at times. Will sometimes use the same exact play multiple times per game. 4. Good with QBs. Good at developing QBs. 5. Loves RBs that have pass-catching skills. If he has any major say in the offense, look for the Jets to add a top notch receiving back this offseason. 6. Has moved away from a more traditional WCO of late. Possibly due to his personnel, but has liked going for the big play in his tenure with Eagles calling plays. 7. Can have a bit of an arrogant demeanor in press conferences. That's about it. I'll answer any questions you have.
Thanks for posting. 1) Who is too powerful? 2) Was MM always the play caller when in Philly? If not, when did that change if it was clear? 3) Was he pushed out in the wash when Reid was fired or was he fired for cause?
1. Some guy named Bill that I know. 2. He was not always play caller. Andy Reid did it and it changed over in 09ish. I forget the exact year. But he's been calling plays on the Eagles for a few years now. 3. A bit of both. They wanted to pretty much clean house, but if for some miracle Reid was retained, Marty would have been let go anyway. The organization just wanted to move in a different direction. Marty and Andy Reid were sort of a hive mind. They thought very similarly on almost everything. Like Reid, Marty believes in passing to get a lead, and running to run out the clock. So expect a lot of games where your pass ratio is ridiculously unbalanced for the first 3 quarters, and then evens out around 62/38ish as the game finishes. I can't tell you how many Eagles games had our QBs drop back and pass 8-10 or more plays in a row and it drove people nuts. He loves the pass. First half ratio of 75/25 or more. But then balances it out in the 2nd half.
IMHO, you guys are in for a very rough ride. The only light at the end of the tunnel is when Woody parts ways with either Rex or ownership. Say whatever you want about the Bills, you probably aren't that far off. However, I'm looking and listening as to how things are shaping up for the Jets, and until Rex and/or Woody are no longer part of your team, you're lucky to avoid double digit losses. This isn't hate, just an opinion from a fan of a divisional foe. It's gonna take a minimum of two seasons to sort out the cap and be competitive again, and that is assuming that the coaches are working with your available talent to their strengths. Add another 1-2 seasons if the talent doesn't match scheme, assuming the FO is that patient. I see Rex lasting 1, maybe 2 seasons and the entire staff gets gutted. I know your pain, for your sake, I hope it doesn't come to that......
