My thought is Moore will want a starting job do to his performance the last 2 years and that will drive his cost up. He knows he doesnt practice well and that cost him with the fins...so offering a QB competion with Sanchez probably wont appeal to him knowing Rex's willingness to stick with Sanchez. I believe he would be a real good fit with Morningwoods WCO...at least for a year or 2 intill you can draft a QB.
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter In Seattle, New Jets GM John Idzik was a supporter of QB Tarvaris Jackson, whose price tag fits into what cap-strapped Jets could afford. ugh
Adam Schefter @AdamSchefter Forget about the idea of Eagles QB Michael Vick following Marty Mornhinweg to Jets. Neither would be interested in the idea of reuniting.
I don't think his practicing had an iota of cause for him being replaced by Tannehill Regis came in there as the new HC and Regis drafted Tannehill and Regis decided that Tannehill was his starter from day one similar to Rex and the Turnover Machine in 2009 only difference was that in 2009 Sanchez was clearly the only choice over hopeless Kellen Clemens whereas Moore was and remains a better quarterback than Tannegarbage even right now Hopefully Idzik brings him in in free agency and the Jets once again have a legitimate quarterback rotation... Moore STARTER McElroy BACKUP Developmental mid round draft pick #3 Turnover Machine SCOUT TEAM inactive for 16 games and then OUTTA HERE
I don't know what's worse, the fact that Idzik wants to bring Jackson here or the fact that he was so high on Jackson to begin with.
IDK he did play okay in Seattle as the starter in 2011, he would be one of the last players I would want as a starter for the Jets. I just think there are better options out there.
at this point, i'm of the opinion that 2013 is pretty much a lost season. straighten out the cap, let sanchez and mcelroy battle it out. hope the defense pulls the team into the playoffs and makes things interesting. maybe lightening can strike. i am totally finished with sanchez, but i'd rather aim for a real solution than a stop-gap. cuz sanchez might turn around and be as good as the stop-gap anyhow. edit: not a totally 'lost season'. but cap-wise they have no flexibility to make real substantial changes. i do hope the defense can make things worth-watching.
No one has said Idzik wants to bring Jackson in, it was speculation that he could want to from his days in Seattle.
Well of course Idzik supported Jackson, he was in Seattle with him. That being said, I doubt we bring him in. I'd prefer either Moore or Smith, to be honest. Get McElroy as backup Get rookie QB to sit behind the FA and learn from him. Make Sanchez inactive. I don't know if it's feasibly possible to do that, but I would certainly do it. Last thing we need is for Saint Chez to be backup and the QB ahead of him gets injured.
This right here is really the best scenario that I could see for this team in 2013. Just need to see how much Smith or Moore would cost.
Jackson is being mentioned in connection with the Jets because they will be running a west coast offense. The Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell is a west coast offense guy. Favre guy. Jackson was with Bevell in Minnesota and Seattle. With the Jets running this offense, they need a QB with experience in the system. Clean up the cap. Purge the roster. Play as many kids as possible.
For what the Jets likely want done at QB in 2013 the best guy for the job is the guy they can get in who is cheapest and can get the job done. That might even be Tarvaris Jackson. If Sanchez wasn't radioactive at this point he'd clearly be the best guy for the job because he's already paid for.
