11 years as a pro personell asst yet everyone claims he is just a bean counter.

i appreciate you posting this ltjf. this is a very informative article that shows the jets went with a well rounded experienced executive.i am sure there were more experienced scout types but this guys resume is exactly what this team needs

He definitely has a football background as opposed to a business background. I approve.

It's going to come down to just how much power he has or if he can veto Rex Ryan's choices of personnel. The outcome of the first disagreement will tell the tale.

Too bad he is handcuffed to Rex this year. 2014 will be the year we get to see the GM in action. Let the salary cutting begin!

Personally, I think Rex will put his ego aside, and let John Idzik deal with personnel issues.

Keep in mind that Rex will have to take this team to the playoffs to keep his job - He needs to focus on coaching up the team!

You seem to think Rex is a czar in the New York Jets or something. Forget about the fact that Woody has said (and I repeat over and over) Rex picks the coaches, GM picks the players. Rex may have input, but GM has final say. That's how most organizations should do it. If our OC likes a player that can fit in our new offense, the GM would consider it and make the final decision. Same if Rex likes a player on defense.

Except we likely won't know about the disagreement until at least a year down the road.

We can only hope that Parcells is no longer influencing this teams decisions and it's one of my favorite things about the hire. I don't trust that Parcells had the best interest of the Jets in mind when offering advice of late.

Damn I feel old. Walt Michaels was the HC when I became a Jets fan. Now his DC son is hired as GM after acquiring decades of football experience.

Right on. I'm super happy about the choice.

For those that say that he is nothing but a bean counter clearly reflects on how little they know about the man. Cimini and Fatcessa lead that list of totally unprepared blow hard media turds.

Now, Rex ought to give Iz the list of requirements or type of players he needs and let the draft gurus pick them. Rex must spend his energy preparing a winning stategy, his personnel responsibility should be limited to need and requirements for players. The who, when and where will come from the GM and his saff.

I didn't get that implication from the Woody/Rex presser. I got the impression that Rex has a pass this year. With the mess the cap is and dearth of talented playmakers on this team, I think anything close to a 500 record will ensure Rex another go-round...

Well the new GM has final say...

Rex is looking at the short term while the new GM is looking at long term.

A clash is bound to happen and for the betterment of your franchise, you hope the GM chooses his vision every time.

All the naysayers are pounding their chest saying Rex is king of the roost now that Mr T. is gone.

I really don't think Woody will put his "friendship" or "liking" of Rex in way of his multimillion dollar company.

We never know what is going on beyond closed doors, and all these "sources" never have names. They could be some dink that really knows nothing but just wants to see their comments in the paper.

But, who's unit gets priority if it comes down to a single DP or FA? The GM makes the call even if it goes against Rex's wishes. If that happens, then you know who's the boss. Rex says he didn't want Steven Hill but wound up with him anyway so there certainly is precedent.

For all of our sakes, we'd better hope that Rex works for The Wiz and not the other way around.

Very true. But we might see the fallout in the form of aquisitions and DP's and which side of the ball gets the most focus during the offseason makeover/draft.

I'm glad Idzik has a strong cap background. If he can't figure out our bloated cap situation, it won't matter how good he is at evaluating talent because all the talent will be playing for other teams.
