I like both guys. I can see Bates coming in but not Shurmur who would be taking a couple steps backwards from HC to QBC. Thought Bates did quite a QB coaching job when he was here in 05 dealing with all those injuries. He had to work with 5 different QBs and made Brooks Bollinger look like a NFL QB on a few occasions.
Damn you beat me to it, I was gonna suggest the same thing. I used to say to say Chad would be a great coach someday, and I would welcome him back with open arms.
going into his fifth year, the qb coach is still a big worry for sanchez. he should be beyond this. anyhow, hope they get a good coach for him.
It's not Sanchez's job to lose. That window has closed. If Sanchez somehow wins this job (which shouldn't even be an option) it would have to be because he severely outplays the competition in the preseason games, not just training camp.
yup. totally agree. he will need to re-invent himself to win the job. at least that's how i think it should be. good luck to him, but i don't see it happening.
Its pretty much Sanchez's job to lose. That is what hiring MM and going WCO is all about: Putting in the system Sanchez is most comfortable w/in the wake of the failed offense of 2012. It was done b/c they want to see if Sanchez improves in a WCO system that he is more suited for and which he ran successfully at USC. Yes there will be a QB competition, maybe Idzik brings in a QB, but in all likelihood the hiring of MM is a strong signal that Sanchez is going to run the WCO in '13 for NYJ.
That would be a very short sighted hire if that's why they brought in MM. Most of the available QB's can operate in a WCO so the more likely scenario is they brought in MM to work with whomever the QB is in 2013. If they brought in an OC with the sole focus in mind of developing Sanchez for 2013 then it could be a short stay for MM, in addition to Sanchez who they're waiting to dump after 2013. Idzik is definitely bringing in a QB this offseason for an open comp, I would put money on it.
In you can move him out of Los Angeles beach area that would be great. He is a HS football coach or used to be. I saw him a few years back and he was still throwing some of the most beautiful spiral ball for 50 yards I have ever seen.
Of course it could be a short stay for MM. It could be a short stay for everybody. But if you think Woody is eating Sanchez's contract I think you are mistaken. Idzik can bring in a QB, but Rex is going to decide who plays. In that situation, Rex has consulted w/MS about how they can put MS in the best position to be successful and the answer was WCO - I would put money on it.
Well with that philosophy then why did they even bother hiring a new GM? I don't agree that it could be a short stay for everybody. Nor do I think the Jets made their GM or OC hires based on the long term belief that Sanchez is part of the long term plan. I think it will be a short stay for Sanchez and only for Sanchez. I think Idzik will have at least a few years to put his stamp on this team so I don't agree that it could be a short stay for everybody. With that in mind, it will be an open QB comp come August. It is not Sanchez's job to lose hate to break it to you.
WCO QBs absolutely need to be decisive and accurate. Traits Sanchez has not shown or improved on for 4 years. If anything those 2 traits are actually his biggest weaknesses. Who cares if he played in WCO @ USC? That's light years ago, and most certainly no where near the caliber of NFL competition. It's not Sanchez' job to lose. Not anymore. This coming from one of the last fans to ditch the Sanchez bandwagon.
You may not have the cap room for another vet QB. I also believe the OC hire was about tring to make Sanchez work. I really dont believe Rex would sit Sanchez or cut/trade him.
They hired a new GM b/c Woody decided that he needed to fire somebody and Mr.T was the obvious choice. You may not agree, but the truth is that everybody could be here for a very short time depending upon how things unfold. I hate to break it to you, but Woody is not eating the Sanchez contract, Sanchez will be on the team, Rex will be the HC and Rex is going to decide who the starting QB will be regardless of whether there is some semblance of an open competition or not. Call it an open competition w/Mcelroy or Flynn all you like, that doesn't mean Rex is picking either one of them as his QB with his HC job on the line.
A 1 yr guaranteed contract at $3 or $4 mil for a vet QB is not gonna be the straw that breaks the camel's back when it comes to the Jets cap situation. Regarding cutting or trading Sanchez, the beauty of this is that it is Idzik's call to make now and not Rex's. And if they do keep Sanchez, I definitely think he rides the bench until they cut him after the season.
