I agree you're one of the more reasonable darksiders. And there's the Sanchez Sychophants, as well as the Rex homers. Am I forgetting any other faction?
yeah i coached last year too. doesnt really amount to anything. on top of the fact that it was 20 years ago if not more. he is a numbers guy, and thats ok. but lets not try to convince ourselves that he is a talent evaluator because he played in college or coached for a year or 2 a couple decades ago.
the bad drafting started in 08, with 1st rounders being spent on Gholston and Keller. What changed in '09 was coaching. an '08 team who quit, played avg D at best, and lost last 4 games with a HOF QB. an '09 team, with same personnel but raw rookie QB, best D in the league by far and one of the best post season runs in franchise history. Yeah i'd say '09 was an improvement, primarily on coaching.
I have to agree. He really isn't a "Architect" but if he's hired, then he's the GM and just like other questionable hires the Jets make, we'll have to live with it for better or worse. I'm just not comfortable with the upcoming draft because since the new GM won't be a personnel guy nor a proven team builder.
You have to look at his entire body of work. He's much more than what your thinking. Tanny's bio is no-where near as impressive as this guy.
i looked at it yesterday. its long. like i said i have no issue with the guy but lets not get ahead of ourselves and start thinking this guy is going to be an awesome talent evaluator because of what we think we understand about his history. personally i dont know shit about him other than what i read, and i am pretty confident none of us really knows anything about him. so lets hope we actually hire him and that he is a good gm and will have a vision that he can convince the ownership and front office and coaching staff to follow. and yes i am thankful that its looking like it wont be cohen, only because i fear with him there would be no change.
The QB got hurt, the personal wasn't the same at all on D or on O. You better go back and look at the roster in 09. By the way the team in 09 and 08 had the exact same regular season record. One backed in one didn't. Rex didn't get it done we would have been far better staying the course with Mangini and Tannenbaum. We will be redoing the coaching staff for a 3rd time under Rex very shortly.
He might not even be our guy, but if he is, as long as he has a sense of direction for this franchise, I'm on board.
Off season 2011 everybody was praising Tanny as god and he has know personnel experience and did a solid job up until that point, Idzik does have some personnel experience, let's give the guy a chance why the f'k not.
Exactly. I remember everybody wanting Nnamdi leading into that offseason but always figured it was a pipe dream until the Jets were close to signing him. I remember all those Tannenbaum pictures with him wearing the terminator sunglasses and stuff. At the time it looked like he made the right call at head coach, in the two drafts (Sanchez was the franchise/future QB, Shonn Greene was the franchise/future RB, Slauson was [is] a competent starter, K-Dub 20 had potential as a legit big CB and so on and so forth) and was possibly going to somehow make cap room for the 2nd best CB in the game to really strike fear in opposing offenses. Amazing how different things are after two seasons.
Up until that point people were kissing his ass, this board was praising him. An to be fair it was a bad off season for most, considering the lock out.
In '08 the team lost the last 4 games of the regular season in spectacular fashion. If 9-7 qualified them for playoffs, they would have gone no where in the tournament. In '09, the team played its best football at the end to reach 9-7, making lots of noise in the playoffs. The defense went from 18 rank, to number 1 in every category. The '09 team was WAY more successful. i don't know how you can make that argument seriously. And enlighten me on the huge roster differences between the seasons.. QB was the biggest change, and not for the better. added Bart Scott, Leonhard, Sanchez, Greene, Braylon for half season. Lost Favre, Jenkins to injury. Not huge changes for the better. maybe you should go back and check the rosters. Did you seriously just suggest this team would be better off with Mangini and Tanny? hahahahaha, that's why neither can get a job. please.... I've heard of Rex detractors, but there are still people calling for a return of the Mangini and Tanny era? i've heard it all now....
I would hope you would feel a lot more comfortable going into this draft than with Tanny for another year. Plus, I dont want another year of bloated extensions and re-negotiated contracts that mortgage the future.
Only thing left is the Sunshiners, like yourself, who tend to be a little younger and haven't lived through multiple cycles like this so they have all kinds of hope and expect that we're all just paranoid old men....lol Think of when you were 14 or 15, and you met a chick and basically gave her your heart without any reservation. She stomped all over it, then the next girl you were a little more careful with, then she stomped your heart, and then the one after that.........until eventually you know how to go slow and not expect everything to be perfect. Same thing here.
No one on this site seems to understand the concept of sarcasm, Yea like i really think the guy is qualified to be a gm because he played WR 20 years ago in college
