With Idzik coming in and more of a salaray cap guy. He needs to surround himself with better scouts. The Jets are old at outside linebacker, nonexistent at runningback and scary bad at WR. Lot of holes to fill and Idzik need his own people to trust and not totally rely on Rex.

Idzik was also a scout for Seattle, he routinely went on scouting trips and had his hand in the personnel department.

Idzik is not official yet either. Let's wait and see what the Jets official announcement says. Basset already got this wrong once.

Closing this for now ... I'll re-open it if Idzik is officially the guy.

    re-opening this.

It sounds like a very well rounded candidate with plenty of personnel experience to go with his cap/business experience. That said, I certainly wouldn't mind an overhaul of the scouting department - it's not like we've been drafting a bunch of HOF players over the last decade.

We haven't drafted a single game-breaker on offense.

Sad. A big part of that has been just ignoring offensive playmakers in the first 2 rounds too. Hopefully the new Gm has a better vision.

I still think that Tannenbaums ultimate failurewas not in who he drafted BUT in his lack of respect for the value of each pick often reducing our quantity of picks in ill advised trade ups and then making matters worse by cheapening the value of those he kept by handing them out like party favors to the coaches

    Connor...oh that was a Rex pick...yuk yuk

Oh that pick...that was a Westy pick for STS

Hopefully Idzik treats draft picks like the assets they should be

Seahawks cap guru John Idzik has emerged as the favorite for the Jets' general manager job.
Per ESPN's Adam Schefter, Idzik has overtaken in-house candidate Scott Cohen and Pittsburgh's Omar Khan as the "clear frontrunner" to replace Mike Tannenbaum in New York. Schefter reports Idzik could be offered the job "as early as tonight." Idzik's title with Seattle is "VP of Football Administration." He has little to no background as an evaluator of personnel and talent.

As posted by others and as indicated on the Seahawks website...Sheffy missed the boat a bit since it appears that the I-man was pretty involved in scouting and personnel functions and even coached some football

I could be wrong, but don't think Shefter said those words at the end.

Whom ever the new GM is, he gets a SB MVP Receiver and the NFL's top defensive player without making a single phone call. He could not show up for work and finish 10-6.

Supposedly our scouting department does a good job but Tanny was ignoring them/listening to Rex/Mangini input over the scouting department.

Or drafting up. You can have the greatest scouting department in the entire universe, but it won't matter if you don't have picks to put that scouting power to a good use, right?

Exactly. Now it's to late to change this up... the new GM should use this draft process to evaluate the scouting staff and change whatever he feels like changing next year.
