Oh i see now.. Since Rex will be HC in '13 (no guarantee beyond that) any GM we bring in will be a poor choice and ineffective throughout his tenure here. Is that really how you think?
People act as Rex doesn't deserve to have any power , He has been here for 4 years and made Jets history in the process an also has a winning record, so why shouldn't he have power all head coaches have power especially if they win in the playoffs and have a long tenure there

Aside from whatever particulars distinguish Tanny from Idzik, my general concern is that without a strong football guy as the GM, Woody and Rex will continue to make too many of the decisions regarding the roster.
Horrible drafts is an exaggeration. He had a few poor ones, but there were plenty of good picks as well. Mediocre drafts would be a better choice of words, but a large portion of it is the guaranteed money that went to under performing players, which led to the talent exodus after 2010. After that the Sanchez extension in a desperate attempt to fix the cap situation that he created was the nail in the coffin.
It wasn't about who he selected. It was more about givingaway draft picks like penny candy to trade up for fewer picks leaving the Jets with as few as 4 or 5 picks in a number of seasons
I'm starting to wonder when the Jets actually need to have the GM in place by. If you follow the idea that a few people have floated that they can't make major changes in the scouting department until after the draft then the scouting process doesn't require the GM in place at the moment. He'll need to be here by the combine to organize the effort to go make best use of the event but he doesn't really need to be in-house much before that. They don't have much cap space available so preparation for free agency is not a heavy factor. They're going to let most of their guys hit the market and hope to maybe re-sign one or two of them late in the process and at a big discount. The date to get the new GM in place isn't all that clear at this point.
Do you really assume that those three (Rex, Woody, New GM) are going to be the only people involved around the personnel decisions? I got to believe that if we bring in someone like Idzik, our personnel department is going to get a facelift as well. There should be strong personnel people brought in regardless if we are looking to learn from the recent past. I don't expect anything less and I don't buy into Rex and Woody being the primary talent evaluators regardless of the New GMs background.
I don't understand why they couldn't give the entire scouting department a facelift still at this point. I just kinda assume that if they were to bring in guys to be strong personnel scouting people, they will probably have already been very deep in the process of evaluating anyway. I guess I'm missing something.
It was also about who he took, don't kid yourself. Gholsten with a 1st, Sanchez with a 1st, wilson with a 1st and Ducasse with a 2nd. His drafts were a disaster. Had he made good picks in those 4 cases we would probably have a really good team right now.
