I had him in one of my Jet mocks, he's a true 4-3 DE. I thought he would be a situational player in Rex's hybrid defense.
As a UConn alum, I like seeing Sio on that list. Not sure what his draft stock is right now... but he is definitely legit. The Huskies actually have a handful of pretty decent prospects this year, even though they were not a bowl team.
While I love this type of info, it may be a bit premature untill we sing a GM and see if he cleans house or not staff wise.
Kerwynn Williams went off in his bowl game. 235 yards and 3 touchdowns and two 4th quarter runs of 50+. Interesting late round prospect.
I agree with this. It's actually kinda scary that they're conducting any kinda player interviews without the input of a GM. Granted, these may all be JAGs, but still. We need some type of direction as to where we're gonna go.
A new GM won't clean house on the personnel side (scoutung) till after the draft, 3/4s of their work is done and still in progress. So, No it isn't premature.
Not to be rude, but you guys don't have an understanding on how a scouting dept works, and the process. Scouts gather info and write reports, not hand pick players for the GM. The GM gathers the info and makes decisions. Not having a Gm has zero bearing on the scouts doing their job. The GM will make changes after the draft.
You really think a new GM is not going to bring in people he has worked with? Is he going to trust the work of the staff that has helped get the Jets into this situation? I think whom ever we hire is going to bring along as many of his associates as possible.
I didn't say that Harp.....he will bring in his own people, after the draft. The info in the scouting dept is almost Top secret, you don't change a few months before the draft. Most Scouting staff personnel contacts expire the end of April, there is a reason for it. A new GM isn't going to gut the scouting staff a few months before the draft, that's a fact, it's always worked that way. Watch how many scouts and directors get canned days after the draft is over.
Suggesting you know more about how a scouting department work while assuming others know less than you is about as arrogant a statement I've see out of you. Do you work in scouting? Have you been involved in a take over? Do you really believe any new GM is not going to look to hire his team before the daft? Scouts may write the reports, but if you don't trust the scouts and those handling them than the reports are useless. Unless Cohen is the hire I would expect changes in the front office long before the draft. Anyone brought in is not starting fresh. They would bring with them their own info for the draft. It will be people the GM knows and trusts. I doubt he is going to put his first draft in the hands of those who have been running the jets to this point.
I'm not being arrogant, I'm telling you the way Football operations work. I've followed the draft for 20 years, I'm not feeding you a bunch of BS. Don't take it personal. Have you ever noticed when changes are made in the scouting dept? After the draft....even with a new GM. I agree with you the new GM is going to make changes, but gutting the scouting dept a few months before the draft isn't one of them.
I don't wanna speak for Harp, but I think what's scaring me abt this BAU (business as usual) attitude is that it's leading me to believe that Cohen will be the guy. I understand that we cannot also just sit on our hands until a decision is made, but we don't even have an OC to know how these pieces will fit our supposedly "new" offensive style.
I think it's being short-sighted to think Cohen is going to be a bad choice, it's not like he's a Tanny Clone. Cohen has extensive personnel experience, much more than Tanny. Nobody knows which GM is the best choice, we have to wait and see.
Christine Michael is a guy I like. He had some injury issues, but when he runs he always seems to hit the hole strong and finishes his runs. Could be good late round value.
I'm not taking it personal, just point out what I think of you assuming you know more than others about the way thing work. I have a friend from high school that has worked in sports administration for around 20 years. I have family that has been involved with minor league sports teams. New GMs always signal new internal staff being brought in. I don't see the new hire as being overly trusting of bradway and his scouting department. I doubt he goes into the daft thier reports as the only voice in the room. He is going to rely on people he trusts. The draft side of the GMs job is the most high profile. He is not going into his first draft without people that have been by his side for a long time. Cohen would have the most expeinnce with this staff and make little to o changes. If its an outsider they are going to do what they can to make changes.
