Building in the trenches...OL/DL.....all for that , but not with #1 pick for OL. U do that when ur team is in shambles, Jets r not there , Jets are a few good players away from being legit contenders again.
That could be a blessing for Jets, if they want Dion Jordan. I hear he's having arm surgery, that might scare off some teams. Jets scoop in & grab him...:beer::jets:
Remember..They were playing Notre Dame. Really its about chemistry & blocking schemes, which Jets seem not to have much of. If u watch alot of these other passing teams, when QB goes back to pass, QB gets time, the OL forms a nice pocket, the offense is in mass-protect mode; opposite of what happens on Jets passing plays, Sanchez usually gets bum rushed. NY Giants don't have alot of All-Pro's on OL & they protect Eli pretty well. Its about talent yes, but moreso cohesiveness....IMO.
They are FAR from only a few good players from being a legit contender. I mean if one of those players was a good QB, then yeah, I could see it. But filling the QB position is one of the hardest things to do in the NFL and something this franchise truly hasnt done. This offense is complete shit, and unless you have a good offense you arent going anywhere. What have these playoff games taught us? Even if you have a top 5 defense, against great competition, you are still going to have to put up 24+ points to win. Our offense cant do that. Im sorry, but this is a 4 win team with this current offense. And then you plan on drafting an OLB with your premium pick? Well shit, thats not helping the offense. This team is in shambles. We have beaten one team in the last two years with a winning record. We have lost 13 out of our last 19 games. We have a head coach... and thats about it. We are tight with the cap and still have no QB. This team is as close to shambles as it can be. So like you said, its time to start rebuild this offense and OL.
Well when Brick has to worry about Slauson missing his assignment or getting blown up because he's not a good player, cohesiveness is not really an option. You have to trust one another. Why in the hell would anybody but Mangold and Brick trust each other? I sure as hell dont. What about the run game? Thats simply moving people off the ball. Thats something our two offensive guards are horrible at. One things for sure, Warmack can move people... And dominate at doing it. You want cohesiveness? Give Brick and Mangold someone they can trust next to them.
I appreciate the support, but you lose me here in several places. By far the worst thing I've ever seen anyone say about the Jets and the offseason is what you said about trading our 2014 1st for a late 2013 1st to take another pass rusher. You'd be run out of town. No, the country right up to Canada. We are likely going to have another bad year next year, and we could end up with a Top 5 pick. Like I said, there are no pass rushers worth taking after the Top 15 for the 3-4 unless you are taking an injured person, and we better not trade our best chance at landing a franchise QB for an "okay" prospect like Sam Montgomery or for an injured player like Tank Carradine, who I adore. We also can't really do anything in free agency because of our hellish cap situation -- there is a reason we can't give away our GM job. We have a lame duck awful QB and a lame duck coach for AN ENTIRE SEASON. That means to me, the safest picks are defense and the offensive line. New coaches mean new schemes, but we're likely to stick with a 3-4 and a good lineman is a good lineman. Either way I'd rather not have any draft picks this year and load up on next year to ensure we get Teddy Bridgewater, Johnny Manziel, or if he has an amazing year and grows as a QB, Logan Thomas than give up our 2014 1st for another OLB. I love Bridgewater, and he'll likely learn from the Louisville QB before him (Brian Brohm) and leave after a hopefully stellar junior year as the #1 overall prospect ahead of even Clowney. I agree that doubling down on an OLB somewhere in the draft is a good idea, but we may need to give up an established player to get the pick. I would trade Kyle Wilson for a 3rd round pick at this point, as we can slot Aaron Berry into the nickel CB role with Revis back. If we do that, then we get: 1) Dion Jordan or Jarvis Jones, 3-4 OLB (weakside) 2) DJ Fluker, OT, Alabama 3a) Larry Warford, OG, Kentucky 3b) Tank Carradine, 3-4 OLB (strongside) 4) Marcus Lattimore, RB (redshirt) 5) Alvin Bailey, OG, Arkansas (Brandon Moore replacement at LG) 6) Ace Sanders, WR/RS, SC (slot WR depth and return man) 7) Latavius Murray, RB, UCF (power RB replacement) Jordan or Jones would make an immediate rush impact, and Carradine would be ready in 2014 to form a serious duo as the nucleus of our pass rush teaming with Wilkerson and Coples. We still badly need a safety or two, and we can address one in free agency in 2014 with Sanchez entirely off the books and Moore and Pouha off the books. I do not think we can win with this Sanchez, I don't know who you've been watching. This is a broken, lousy QB who can't command a huddle or put zip on a 10 yard out. I don't think he plays a down for us next year. I think you're going to either see us take a risk with a free agent or two, perhaps Matt Cassell comes to town for the vet minimum and a starting job. But we won't have a run game because Lattimore will be redshirting essentially and we'll be relying on Powell or McKnight, or perhaps Murray surprises like Alfred Morris. Also don't compare Dion Jordan to Lawrence Taylor. Comparing him to Aldon Smith is wishful in and of itself, although possible. A Taylor comparison is downright misguided. I'm also of the opinion that we should shed any past-their-prime contracts in a youth movement and see what kind of cap relief and draft picks we can get. Holmes we probably can't give a team a free draft pick just to take off our hands, but a sleeper trade chip is ILB David Harris. We'd be thrusting Demario Davis into a big role, but he has a lot of talent and I think a trial by fire could do him well as a leader in a youth movement. That means we have a ILB spot open next to him unless Bart Scott is back, and Rolando McClain is the kind of cheap low risk/high reward project Rex should take on. If Rex can get him playing like he was when he left Alabama, he and Davis could surprise as an effective duo inside a 3-4. It's also time for Kenrick Ellis to either sink or swim and he should be thrust into a starting role at NT. He may play poorly at first, but he could be a player that needs the reps and needs to grow into the role and position. Now is the time to see exactly what we have on the roster behind the guys we know are "okay" but only a part of the short term plans like Pouha, Scott, and Harris at this point.
Obviously you didn't watch how Seattle got to where they are now. (Even Patriots are investing in the OL heavily. History is literally LITTERED with 1st round OL talents that paid handsomely in the success of the franchise.) And Jets are NOT a few good players away from being a contender. Their roster lacks: starter quality OLB x2, ILB, FS and SS. (That is half the starting defense. Ok?) On offense: QB (Could be salvageable. Too early in some sense.), RB, OG x2, TE (x2), WR. (That is more than half the starter, with QB in the mix.) How is this team 'only a few players away?'
1. I would love it if the draft goes down like this. 2. This means Jets would have to double down on safeties next season. Again, I have no problem with that. 3. Regarding David Harris: he is a slow ILB that is eating up 13M this season, and 7M next season. If Jets do deal him for picks (for salary cap purposes and rebuilding purposes.) then Jets would have to draft another ILB. Is there anyone worth looking at in the low rounds?
It's certainly starting to look like that with all the other tackles going back to school. Seems even less likely that the teams picking in front of the Jets in desperate need of OL help pass on Fluker in the second. But if we knew who everyone was going to take, then what would be the point of mocks?
Fluker was a boarderline end of the first round pick before most of the big OT's decided to go back to school. I think he's a no brainer for the first round now considering how many teams need a starting tackle and he appears to be a solid option at least for right tackle, and possibly left. Warford I don't think I've ever seen mocked lower than the 2nd round, and there's a small chance he'll slip in to the first, but it's not likely due to the number of guards still in that are definite first round picks, or nearly definite and the devalued position of Guard.
I'm pretty sure this city has seen something like Lawrence Taylor. I think Dion Jordan is a fantastic prospect as well, but he's no Taylor. There is no way we double down on OLB's in the first round and tie up way over 50% of our cap in the defense. Plus, there's no need for two passrushing OLB's. Plus trading away our first round pick in a stacked 2014 draft class for a first round in a very, very weak 2013 draft class is blasphemy.
Wow. You are honestly delusional. I am so sorry. The closest thing to Lawrence Taylor? Are you kidding me? What about the guy that holds the record for most sacks in a season? Michael Strahan? Or Justin Tuck? Or JPP? Please. Your fantasy here is probably the worst thing this franchise could do. I mean we might as well not even field an offense... Because we might be more prone to giving the other defense points than actually scoring points. I would probably throw up if the team did this. I mean just the fact that you think Sanchez could still lead this offense says it all... I mean he could lead us to a top 5 draft pick in 2014 (which btw you would like to trade for a late first rounder this year), but thats about it. Have you watched Dion Jordan play besides his highlight videos?
The only thing I can say there has only been one LT and he's one of the top players ever in the NFL. LT changed the game probably more than any other defensive player in existence. Sometimes I wonder if some people think before they type on the keyboard. Run-n-gun, you're calling other "chaps color blind".......wow.
Gotta admit that I've changed my mind. The more I'm reading/learning the more I'm starting to think pick #9 on OG is not right if potential pass rushers are on the board (or at least a LB capable of sealing that edge on a consistent basis). However, I still believe that OL needs to upgrade a starter really bad. Round 1 = Dion Jordan or another pass rusher that's not a big project (avoiding Ansah, Mingo types). Round 2 = Best O-lineman available (Guard or Tackle, whichever is most likely to compete/win a starting spot). ==== @Run_N_gun10: I hate the Giants & it's annoying to give them props. However, LT could very well be a once in a lifetime player. Most franchises (including the Jets) will never have such a disruptive defensive player that impacts the entire league so strongly. It's good to believe in someone but when you stretch it this far you'll lose credibility. It is great that you have such enthusiasm with your picks but don't overlook that there's plenty of Dion Jordan believers already here. .
You simply can't justify passing on an outside linebacker for a gaurd no matter how bad we are on offense. We must attempt to keep our line intact and pray that continuity is the way to go if not upgrade it through a trade as I don't see a big time free agent coming here with our little cap room. Trading Harris this year is a terrible idea, we will go from having maybe one LB to zero. You approach him and ask him to restructure. In the first you get the OLB we've been missing and make this defense elite again. I don't think Jarvis Jones will be there but if Dion Jordan is you jump on the opportunity. If they are both gone perhaps you look to trade back to get Chance Warmack as getting him at nine is stupid. If that doesn't work you continue to trade back and stockpile picks until you get good value and pick up an offensive weapon. With Jordan in the first the rest of the draft should be focused on getting offensive playmakers in the early rounds 2-4 and getting quality depth or boom or bust projects in the later rounds at gaurd or RT. **Also it is imperative we resign Landry**
So, the falcons fan that wanted the Jets to trade down seven spots in the first for Ben Hartstock has a supporter in a guy that thinks Dion Jordan is the next LT based on a few highlights. Sounds about right. :breakdance:
It's time to re-up on the Oline. I'd have no problem with Warmack at #1. Let Slauson walk, maybe re-sign Moore for another year on the cheap. 2014, draft another Guard. Draft an OT within first 4 rounds this year as well. depth and future starter behind Howard and D'brick. That would be a Oline moving in right direction, which is first step in offense moving in right direction.
