The problem is that the people still defending Sanchez aren't solely using rational thoughts as the true basis for their arguments.
Did you know Tony Romo & philip Rivers have a better career QB rating than: Drew Brees Kurt Warner Joe Montana Dan Marino Otto Graham Brett Favre Roger Staubach Troy Aikman etc... heck, our former whipping boy at QB(Chad) has a better career rating than Dan Marino so he must have been better!
The problem is actually those that don't understand the game, they want to get rid of every player/coach the minute they are down.
haha, the "minute" they are down? How about the season they are down? How about the two seasons they are down? How about the worst tenured starting quarterback in the league over a 4 year period?
Every man in the Jet's org including Rex would LOVE to kick Mark to the curb but can't due to $. Now watch Mark turn into something special so Rex can say "See? I told you so".
how can a guy who helped his team reach 2 championship games(still leads the NFL- tied w/ NE and Bal) be the worst tenured starting QB? he's had 1 bad year in 4 years and helped us win a lot of games.
Good point but I did qualify my statement to allow for anomolies. Are you saying Sanchez' QB Rating is irrelevent to the conversation?
maybe not this year where he was as bad as his rating(if not worse) but in years past. He had a good rating most of '11(until the last 3 games) and wasn't as good as his rating, his rating was mediocre in '10 and he was much better than his rating.
No, he started stinking up the field very badly in the Fall of 2011... I reference the last 4 games of that season. 2012 started off as a continuation of those last 4 stinkers, so let's not let this sound as though we just discovered this year that he doesn't have what it takes. You're supposed to improve after 4 years, not regress. Regress he has, and there's certainly no disputing that. Errata: Should have said "the last 4 out of 5 games of that season."
Actually the stats are fully in context, what you fail to understand is the eyes deceive, or what you see isn't necessarily what happened. Hint, allowing the 6th lowest point allowed in a season has nothing to do with your interpretation of the word "context". It's just a stone cold fact. No context to it. Ahh where to start. Cleveland. game tied 3-3 1st quarter, Jets force a fumble and recover at the Browns 25. Green runs 5 yards Sanchez passes for 1 yard, Sanchez passes for no gain. Jets settle for field goal attemp but no good. Premium Field position provided by the Defense and Sanchez can't even gain more than 1 yard through the air. 2nd quarter, Jets down 13-10 Jets take the lead, 17-13 DRive went 80 yards, Sanchez passed for a total of 12. 68 yards AND the TD on the ground. 3rd quarter Jets start at their own 20, drive 74 yards to the Cleveland 6, Chance to put the game away, To his credit 35 of the yards were Sanchez 46 of the yards were Sanchez passes, 22 on one pass. But again in the redzone the Jets can't get it in as Sanchez fails on two passes to get it in the Endzone. Bad juju for folk as he misses the kick. But that's two times the Jets have been in prime field posistion and sanchez can't get it done. Jets D stops cleveland on the next drive, 4 and out. Jets take the ball Jets gain 18 yards on the ground, 0 in the air. Punt. 4th Qtr Jets D stops the browns again, 3 and out. Jets go 3 and out, sanchez flops again Jets D again forces the Browns 3 and out Jets take over 37 yard line. Marches down the field AGAIN in to the redzone, Jets settle for a field goal and a 20-13 lead. Browns do drive again...and tie the game, game goes in to overtime. Now note, at this time, the Jets 3 times had the ball deep in Cleveland territory and Sanchez couldn't do anything with it.. If Sanchez, or folk for that matter, are half way competent this game never even goes in to overtime. Overtime what does Sanchez do? first posession 1 1st down, then punt. Jets force a fumble from cleveland at the Jets 36 yard line, Jets ball. Jets drive 29 yards, 15 of it on the ground, drive stalls as two Sanchez completiions can't get the first down. Folk misses a 47 yard FG. Not folks day either. Still in OT Jets D forces a 3 and out. Jets have the ball, with 3 minutes left in OT. starting at their own 9 yard line. Jets drive 37 yards to their own 46. But the drive ends when Sanchez throws a pick. Jets D forces yet ANOTHER 3 and out. Sanchez connects and the jets win with 24 seconds left in OT. Yes Sanchez had the winning pass, BUT How many times did the defense bail his ass out? How many times the the jets D force a turn over in good field position only to have Sanchez do NOTHING? How many times in regulation were the Jets in the redzone and Sanchez couldn't put it in? twice inside the 10? Granted part of this rests of Folk for the missed FG's, but really, to claim Sanchez won this game for the jets is just silly, the defense is what allowed Sanchez to get past his own ineptness. Okay so the Cleveland game you clearly either didn't watch or understand. Jets score first with a FG, which is pretty pathetic when you consider they got the ball on the Houston 29 yard line. Translation, lost opportunity by Sanchez and the Jets, should be 7, or at least more than 1:30 taken off the clock. Next drive Jets allow 1 FD then a punt. Jets get the ball on the their own 16.Jets get 1 first down then punt. D allows 1 first down then houston punt Jets go 3 and out...punt Jets have 3 points to show for the first Q. and that came because of Defense and special teams giving the ball to the offense deep in Houstons territory and Jets do NOTHING with it. 2nd quarter Jets D gives up a long drive and a touchdown (note at this point the Jets offense has had 2 first downs) Jets drive and score a touchdown. Sanchez actually, for the first time in two games, has a good drive. Jets defense forces 3 and out. Jets get the ball at the houston 48, Jets drive 33 yards, 17 on the ground, 16 air. But again teh drive stalls inside the redzone, (see a trend developing here?) settle for a field goal. Jets lead 13-7 at halftime. Jets drive 30 yards, 13 on the ground, no points as folk misses a 53 yard FG. Jets force a 3 and out. Jets start at their own 8 and drive 92 yards for a TD. 41 yards on a brilliant catch and run by holmes off of a short pass. Jets D again forces a 3 and out Jets go 3 and out. Houston gets the ball on their own 9 yard line and fumbles! Jets recover at the 22. jets drive to the houston 12, with the aid of a 5 yard penalty at the beginning of the drive that gave...but can't get more than 4 yards off offense off a 3 yard pass from Sanchez and an incomplete pass. The Jets 5th time in 2 games inside the redzone and no TD's, again. FG good Jets lead 23-7. Jets D gives up a FG 23-10 jets Jets ball, Jets fumble at the 41 after only 4 plays (fumble is on greene not sanchez) Texans 1 play TD23-17 jets Jets ball, they get 1 first down, all positive yardage was on the ground, 2 incomplete Sanchez passes, punt. Houston then takes the lead 24-23 on a long drive. But at this point, the Jets had been in the redzone twice, the defense had granted several good chances which Sanchez squandered. But that's neither here nor there in your eyes, but it would be nice if the offense could get a couple first downs behind the "mighty Sanchez" Jets get the ball with 2 minutes left in the game down 24-23. Sanchez is going to save the Jets, right? incomplete pass, oh noSanchez throws an interception! (imagine that) Houstons ball on the jets 10 yard line. Jets Defense Stops Houston cold and allows only a fieldgoal. 27-23 Houston. Yes Sanchez did drive the team down the field to win the game in the closing seconds...BUT, if the defense hadn't held after Sanchez's interception the game would have been OVER. If Sanchez had been able to score on teh golden oppertunites that he had been given early in the game by the Defense, the game wouldn't have been close. Sanchez Nearly COST the game on several occasions. And by constantly going 3 and out left the defense on the field, ALOT. Well so far you've illustrated that while yes you're technically correct that Sanchez was the closing "hero",the only reason he was a hero in those two games was because of his blunders that nearly cost both of those games. Shall I go on and disect the Colts game for you as well? Detroit? Denver? I'm taking the games in the order you gave them as your "defense" of how Sanchez "saved" the team. All you remember is the closing drives, you convenintly forget that it was Sanchez's ineptness by and large that almost cost the team both games. and only the Defense and running game in both games that bailed his ass out so that he could be the "hero" at the end. Sanchez being the hero is kind of like Barney Fife putting a bullet in his gun, shooting himself in the leg and having the ricochet stop the badguy...
You think Steeler fans still pop a boner when they think of Kordell Stewart "leading" their team to two AFC title appearances?
Stop trying to make your argument based on facts. Everybody knows facts and solid examples are irrelevent in these types of conversations.
And Wilson nearly led them from 20 down. FOUR POINT DIFFERENCE OMG MARK IS A BETTER QB THAN WILSON!!!! I swear, it's like you're his mother or something. He's mediocre at BEST, yet you still want him as the face of the franchise. You're insane or stupid. Explain the 50 turnovers for me...what are the excuses?
For the record, the notion that Sanchez "lead" us to two AFC Championship games is one of the most uninformed, factually challenged, and outright comical assertions I have ever read on this message board.
Sorry, didn't see the last response. Wilson has one playoff win on the road, and almost had two had Seattle's defense not allowed a field goal in thirty seconds. Why in the hell would I want Kapernick gone if he were a Jet? Kapernick is far and away a better quarterback than Mark Sanchez. Tangibles and intangibles. Mark Sanchez looks scared to play out there, while Kapernick has more confidence. Kapernick actually knows how to hit his receivers in stride. He knows basic quarterbacking skills like throwing the ball away. He knows how to scramble and make plays quickly. Brees had 40, but I bet he wasn't getting those turnovers by being a game manager. He probably had long throws that in essence were punts. Sanchez's turnovers are either fumbles or very short throws which puts our opponent in GREAT field position. Eli, like most other quarterbacks, are far and away better than Sanchez. Eli probably doesn't lose games like Sanchez does. Not to mention he won a Superbowl. Peyton also won a Superbowl. Three out of the 4 QBs listed won a Superbowl....Sanchez has not. His turnovers were detrimental enough that we did not win a Superbowl in our two championship years. A 4th year quarterback has no business being reprogrammed. He should KNOW what the fuck to do on the field at this point. If he doesn't, he needs to be inactive or just plain gone.
I just can't believe people can watch football as much as you guys watch and still not have a clue what you are watching. It's embarrassing and it contrinutes to why we have the worst fanbase in sports. It would be funny if it wasn't so sad, I think you guys are serious.
Can you respond to my post please? Instead of this insulting nonsense. What about Sanchez makes him better than the 4 people you listed?
