I Don't know much about Jordan but a 6'7 240 LB OLB ? I would think he would fit better as a 4-3 end but for those who have seen Jordan more, what's his deal ?
I really do understand where you're coming from, but if Warmack's second contract is what we are worrying about then I'll take it. By the time he's up for a new deal Mangold and D"Brick will be 10+year vets and possibly not in the position to command as much money, or as long-time Jets, they would agree to restructure in order to sign younger guys. I just don't know as much about the pass rushers and I would want that pick to work out. I think with the amount of LB's leaving in the offseason it's likely a no-brainer we go OLB.
I don't get this post. Last year's number 9 pick got 4 years 12.6 million. If you're drafting him at 9 it's because you think he's really good. What kind of guard do you think you could get in free agency for $3.2 million a year? Not a really good one. And the argument about the second contract, you're worried he'll be too good of a guard and you won't be able to afford him? Maybe you should draft a mediocre player at 9 because he'll be easy to re-sign.
The cap is a finite resource. You use it on playmakers and QB's and elite passrushers and elite tackles to block the elite passrushers. Using it in other places can produce benefits but also long-term weakness. A team with two great CB's often can't afford an elite pass rusher. A team with an elite center and an elite guard is going to have trouble affording elite playmakers. It's a question of where you put the finite resources that you have available.
3.2 millions for 4 years of elite guard play is more than worth it. Worry about the second contract when it comes. If we are worrying about paying him elite money then we made the right pick... Brandon Moore is getting paid more than that in terms of cap value and I have never heard one single person here complain about the type of money we're paid him and how its hurting us from paying for playmakers on offense.
Several experts (yes, -- there are some who know more than we do) have stated that "without question" Chance Warmack is the best OL at any position in the upcoming draft. This talk of "#9 worthiness" is nonsense. We dont have the luxury anymore of selecting projects with high ceilings. Our roster is so shot we need the surest thing possible to a guaranteed dominant player and that is Warmack.
You're a much better poster than this. So because of Nick Mangold's hefty pay we just recycle cheap alternatives next to him at the guard position in the Matt Slausons of the league? Couldnt disagree more.
No, we go find decent guards. Chance Warmack is a star-caliber guard. What teams in the NFL can afford to pay a star-caliber center and a star-caliber guard? It just doesn't happen. We already have the big mojo in the middle of the offensive line in Mangold. We have D'Brick on the left. That's all the star power you can afford on the offensive line. Maybe a good RT if one falls into your lap. The other guys need to be good and you can't afford great.
With the rookie salary scale in place it's not that give of an issue really, by the time Warmack got to where his salary was going up Bricks and Mangolds would be going down.
I'm not that impressed with Dion Jordan as a pro prospect. He's definitely fast once he gets going, but I think his height will play against him in the pro's.
This strikes me as the thought process that got Tanny fired. The draft should be a much simpler process: Draft BPA regardless of need or position. There are many arguments as to why Warmack is not the BPA - but his second contract shouldn't even be a consideration come draft day.
Why are we worried about when we cant afford a player... There is no logic to that we need to improve the line. Who knows what Dbrick will be or what Manigold will even be as far as health down the line. Last year and the year before Manigold was out for a couple of games so lets get this line improved and not look towards later rounds for Linemen and then be like they suck early in the year because the are projects.
49ers have 3 1st round picks on the offensive of line. you tell me how that worked for them last night against the Packers? They steam rolled the Packers defense out of Candle Stick. I am all for drafting 2 lineman with our 1st 2 picks.
YES! These guys make our OL seem like the 2008 Lions. Why are we pretending that we dont have TWO young, high upside lineman at RT and LG already? (Yes, Ducasse! If you think he's bad because you saw hardknocks and your stupid little brain can't comprehend that he's actually good now, don't talk to me) Dion Jordan is a rare mix of Bryan Thomas and Aaron Maybin. He'll probably develop to be decent against the run but his pass rushing technique or lack there of is very Maybin-an.
I'd rather take a chance on Barkevious Mingo then reach for Chance Warmack. We need a passrusher or playmaker rd.1
LOL. Reach on Warmack while drafting Mingo at 9? Mingo is the definition of a reach. Did you watch either one of these players play? Warmack is a top 10 talent and plays like a top 10 player. This team doesnt need another bust at OLB, we need surefire picks, and Warmack is as surefire of a pro bowl gaurd as you are going to get. Man, some of these posts in this forum are getting to be a little much.
