To me, these two guys are the top realistic options at #9. Vastly different positions but both would fill huge needs. So if Geno Smith, Jarvis Jones, Star Lotulelei, Luke Joeckel, Damontre Moore, Bjoern Werner, DeMarcus Milliner and Manti Te'o are off the board, who would you take?
Im a big Dion Jordan fan huge, but there could be options at OLB in later rounds. Warmack is a cant miss player, he'll be a pro bowler for years you have to take Warmack at #9 because he is the better player.
I'm not sure about better, but is the safer player. Warmack will play at a high level from day one. Jordan has a much higer ceeling both as an athlete and because of the position he plays. I would be happy with either one.
Im not a big draft guru or anything, so someone help me out. What kind of player is Dion Jordan? Is there any comparisons out there now that remind you of him?
I wouldn't take Geno Smith under any circumstances in Rd 1. It's really too early, 3.5 months to the draft. The Combine and workouts are going to change the player rankings. Dion Jordan is a good player, he's dumber than a box of rocks. Probably one of the better DE/OLB prospects that have played in space in College.
This really comes down to positional value. Edge rusher always trumps guard. I think both players have very high upside, but if you look at the teams that have won the last few Super Bowls, each one had at least one elite (10+ sack) pass rusher
Also, Jordan is going to have surgery to repair a torn labrum. Jordan needs to bulk up he's needs more LBs on that 6'6" frame.
Teams with a consistent offense usually have a superiior O-line. I look at what would make an immediate impact to improve the team and Warmack is the player. I'm not usually thrilled spending a 9th pick on a Guard, but Warmack is an exception, not the rule. When the average Football fan watched the championship game last Monday and noticed Warmack blowing people 5 yards downfield, you know he's elite.
I do't think the Jets could go wrong with either players but I agree that Warmack would make our offense better next season and for years to come. Jordan could add the dynamic pass rusher that we need and he is also very good at other LB attributes such as coverage which could help with Gronk and Hernandez
Jordan is that dumb? Hmm I didnt know that. Interesting... I would probably take Warmack if I had to choose.
I dont disagree with any of this. Like I said I'm just saying how the tiebreaker could be determined all things being equal
No Joke. when he was a Senior in High School, he syphoned gasoline with a vacumm cleaner and got severe burns, he had to be life flighted. Not a rocket scientist. This may have nothing to do with his play on the field, but is something to consider and making good decisions.
As much as I really like Warmack, we may be slightly overrating him at #9. Eric Fisher is going to be an OT on the rise and he has played LT, RT & G, 6'8' with excellent feet.
I am always worried about drafting pass rushers, especially this organization. Getting a guard like Warmack is safe and reliable, exactly what we need at this time of uncertainly. Obviously things may change as reports come out about these players. Jarvis Jones is one player who Tony Pauline thinks could go #1 overall, but I've read several people are scared of him because of his spine/neck. This draft is pretty deep at RB and WR. I would feel pretty good going OT/G (Warmack) and then RB/WR in round 2, especially a guy like D. Hopkins. One thing is RBs/WRs sometimes come out of nowhere (Cruz, ALF, Foster) while elite pass rushers don't grow on trees.
Yeah when you are talking about a top 10 pick, that definitely becomes a factor. Considering the lack of leaders on this team, a hard worker like Warmack would do us much better. The guy is relentless and never gives up. If Ducasse pans out (he did show vast improvement), an OL of Brick, Warmack, Mangold, Ducasse, Howard wouldnt be that bad. I think Howard could be alright. Might be better suited at guard, but he's shown improvement over the year. Im no offensive line specialist, so Ill defer the question to anyone who can answer it- What blocking scheme would be best with a group like this and which runningback in the draft would fit that?
I really like Eric Fisher. I thought he could have given Lewan a real run for the #2 tackle spot in the draft (not saying he would have beaten him, but he would have mad it interesting). He's got great feet and is extremely athletic. He's also very good in the run game for a tackle like him that may be looked at as a "finesse blocker". I found this article on him about a week ago- http://draftbreakdown.com/gone-fishin Its a good read.
As much as I hate taking a guard in top 10 I just cannot justify going D in 1st rd again with the state our offense is in. At this time at least there doesn't seem to be any offensive player other then Smith and Warmack worthy of top 10. Thankfully this draft is very deep at We and RB and should have some quality talent in the 2nd and beyond. The best scenario is to trade down once or twice and stockpile as many of those 2nd and 3rd rounders as possible.
A guard at #9 is a move that is almost indefensible. That creates a huge cap number relatively speaking in the interior of the offensive line to go alongside Nick Mangold's excessive cap number for a center. The first contract will be livable but try re-signing Warmack to his second deal without having him bolt for a Hutchinson-type contract. The Jets cannot take Warmack at #9 as part of a strong strategy moving forward.
Have to go OLB here if we add a player like JPP or Aldon Smith to this defense we are number one in the league again. Not to mention taking a guard at number 9 is inexcusable. Trading back maybe, but if a talent like Jordan is on the board you take him. Load up on play makers the rest of the draft and focus on O-line in free agency. That would be my approach.
