The seven Catholic schools that plan to leave the Big East to form their own basketball conference expect to double their money off a television deal, according to sources.

Sources say that Fox, whose Fox Sports 1 channel is set to launch in August, has an initial high offer on the table of more than $500 million for a 12-year deal. Fox Sports 1 will replace the network's motorsports channel Speed, already in 81 million homes. Sources say officials with Fox are scheduled to meet with those representing the interest of the "Catholic 7" in New York City on Wednesday. A Fox spokesman could not immediately be reached for comment. A high-ranking source at NBC Sports Network, which has so far engaged in preliminary discussions with the "Catholic 7," declined comment. ESPN spokesman Josh Krulewitz also declined comment on the network's interest in the "Catholic 7" games.

The presidents of the schools -- DePaul, Georgetown, Marquette, Providence, Seton Hall, St. John's and Villanova -- met in New York on Friday to discuss the intricacies of the new conference and announced that they retained the legal services of Proskauer Rose and Pilson Communications for television negotiations.

But the television deal is said to be far along. In fact, before the non-football schools left the Big East, sources say the presidents knew they'd be better off leaving. That's because Jordan Bazant, the main partner of New York-based The Legacy Agency, which represents Fox broadcasters including Troy Aikman, Chris Myers and Daryl "Moose" Johnston, already had helped bring Fox to the table. Representatives of St. John's and Georgetown took the lead in those early discussions.

Under the current Big East deal, which expires at the end of this season, the non-football schools receive between $2 million and $3 million from the television contract. There was initial fear the defections of recent football members would leave the non-football schools in a worse position.

It is believed the "Catholic 7" would divide its share of the television rights evenly and split the rest among what ideally will become the other three-to-five schools that it adds to form a 10- to 12-team conference. One source said it is likely the new schools wouldn't share the same amount as the "Catholic 7," which would allow the former Big East basketball schools to earn in the $5 million range. It's thought that free agent schools such as the ones in the Atlantic 10 would be fine with making less than half of that on an annual basis because they currently pull in $400,000 a year. However, under current conference bylaws, there's a required 27-month window in order not to owe exit fees.

In a perfect situation, the "Catholic 7" would be able to leave the Big East at the end of this season and bring in new members, which would allow its television contract to begin next season. Perhaps the promise of new money would allow it to pay fees to get out earlier.

Not trying to ruin your good mood but you saying your giddy about beating south Florida really is a statement on how far Nova has fallen not how well they are doing.

The Heels stink, what can I do? It's frustrating but better times are ahead.

What's wrong with them? I thought Mcadoo was going to be a stud. What about Bulluck? Is it a young backcourt issue? I am not busting here just asking because I have not had a chance to watch them yet and I want to start to get to know the ACC teams.

Bullock is good, he's their best player at this point. McAdoo isn't a back to the basket big and the only guy they have like that is a raw freshman(Joel James) but help is on the way next year. In the backcourt there is a freshman running things who should be a backup as a freshman but is forced to start. he is getting better though.

This team could be really good and win w/ defense but they have too many lapses on D. They will learn.

As an SU fan I am just starting to see what life is like as a fan of a top program. Until about 2003 when we got stud players they normally stayed for 3 or so years now as soon as they have one decent year they are gone. The NBA developmental league is full of them.

The player turnover from year to year is tough. You really don't know what type of team you will have the next year. SU tries to recruit both studs and 4 year players which has worked recently. But one really bad recruiting year can really hurt you.

It sucks, the last 2 times the Heels had a mass exodus they were coming off National Championship so it made it easier, the marshall injury prevented that last year so it makes it much worse to go through this.

Either way, it's a road win against a team that was projected to finish a few spots ahead of them in the conference. I'll take it. Team has been playing some solid D.

James had a good game against us, looks like he will be a solid player in the future for the Heels.

The amount of events they are talking about taking place at that stadium (which our football team would be about the 7th most important thing) are insane. BYU is considering trying to host a neutral site game, they are talking about pushing for a 2nd bowl game , maybe a Final 4, MLS, NBA games, mega concerts.. who knows what else. The location of the scoreboard is weird but it's Vegas, they can get away with trying something unique.

The best part about it is that it'd be on campus but the plan is to design some amazing housing for students, places to eat, shop and do other things and transform UNLV from a commuter school into a destination school like Arizona State or UT-Austin. I think the vision is to follow Arizona State's model in modern buildings with a great vibe right off campus. Tempe is a great city around the school and people who don't go to school there still hang around because of it. I really think if it gets done UNLV would be the next expansion candidate for the PAC 12 if they decide to expand. We need to get our academics up but by making it a destination school you raise the profile of the student you're accepting.
