jeez the jets are really interviewing a lot of motha truckers. idk how i feel about jerry angelo, i want a new guy
Looks like the Jets really wanted Caldwell or Gamble and for various reasons have now expanded the search.
I was really hoping Caldwell would have been the guy. Stupid Jaguars. Stupid, Stupid, Jaguars. Oh well, I am confident they will bring in someone who will be well prepared for the job. They really can't afford to botch this up, this is such a critical hire right now.
The Jets expanded GM search will continue this week with Steelers exec Omar Khan Thurs and John Idzik (SEA) on Friday. Both are excellent https://twitter.com/JasonLaCanfora/status/289214408503209985 Both of these guys are cap/management guys.
Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN Jim Popp, GM of Montreal Alouettes in CFL, is believed to be on Jets GM radar as well, I'm told. He had been in mix for Panthers job #nyj
Personally I'd prefer a GM whose strength is in talent evaluation who has just enough of an understanding of the cap to manage it properly with the assistance of staff.
Now can we all breathe. Once again, we're getting good guys from good organizations. Deep breath. We will all come out of this stronger and more united. I can feel it
Here you go:  New update: Manish Mehta @MMehtaNYDN So to recap expanded Jets GM search: Upcoming interviews for Jerry Angelo, Omar Khan, Brian Gaine, John Idzik. Jim Popp also on radar. #nyj
Woody could be gathering ideas on how to improve the Jets. He asks each of the candidates for their plan and their philosophy on how to build an organization. Finds out the inner workings of the Giants,49ers,Steelers,Seahawks,Falcons,etc. Khan or Izdik tackle the cap mess. Bradway prepares for the draft. Khan or Izdik hire a strong personnel evaluator after the draft and/or hire an out of work executive right away. Teams won't allow their guys to jump to another team before the draft if its not for a GM job. Bradway will prepare the draft board for the Jets. Izdik could hire one of the Seattle personnel execs as his right hand guy.
John Idzik begins his sixth season with the Seahawks after joining the club on February 16, 2007. With Seattle, Idzik oversees player negotiations, the team’s compliance with the NFL salary cap, player personnel transactions, all football operations budgets, staff and team contracts, team travel and most aspects of the day-to-day football operations while also remaining active in player evaluations. In addition, he serves as the club’s primary liaison to the NFL Office and represents the club at League meetings. John Schneider enters his third season as General Manager of the Seattle Seahawks having been named to the position January 19, 2010. In his role, he manages all aspects of the Seahawks roster and draft process while working collaboratively with Pete Carroll in all facets of the football operations department. Although he holds the designation as the NFL’s third-youngest general manager at age 41, Schneider begins his 20th season working in the professional ranks. Schneider’s philosophy is one of building through the draft while creating a competitive culture through a mix of youthful playmakers and veteran leadership. He is charged with piecing together a younger roster that will breed a sustained winning atmosphere for years to come. The signs of that philosophy have been evident during his first two years in a leading role. http://www.seahawks.com/team/staff.html Idzik is the cap/management guy. Schneider picks the players.
I like the Seattle guy. They have a talented team and have had really good draft. Also interested on the CFL guy, could be a good pick-up. Maybe he brings a Cameron Wake with him.
That's a good point. Getting multiple opinions then taking the one most agree on and getting the strongest candidate for it. Would be a great idea in my mind if woody is digging for some free info
Idzik and Popp both have experience in helping bring in players for their respective teams. Popp is not just a "cap guy" he has a very good eye for players given the CFL is all about finding players that didn't exactly make the cut in the NFL. Popp has been GM for a long time. Idzik also helped find players for the cardinals before he went to Seattle, and was part in building a roster for their Super Bowl run recently. Obviously he is with an organization now that are building an amazing roster in Seattle.
