I know the sports world is different but this kind of stuff really confuses me. Not a knock on Gamble or Heckert personally but why not keep following interviews until you've got a job offer in writing? What if somebody in the hiring process changes their minds on the job you thought you had. Or somebody comes later & just blows them away with an amazing interview for the same job. I'm assuming the handshake deal within their world gives people enough faith to believe the official docs are a mere formality.
I think it's to show the prospective team you really want the job. Gamble has a great job now, it's not like he wouldn't get another opportunity down the road. Plus, I'm sure there's already contract talks between the team and the agent.
Interesting take. Their world is very small (only 32 teams & therefore only 32 employers). Maybe the fact that it's impossible to keep job hunting secretly after a verbal handshake deal forces candidates to behave differently? For most other careers, you're able to interview with prospective employers even while you're still employed. Your manager will likely not even know you've been job-hunting until after you give the 2-weeks notice. With the media attention in professional sports, it's probably impossible to seriously interview for a big job without everyone else in the league knowing.
Someone wrote in another thread that Bradway and Gamble are buddies / friends. Not sure if there is truth to this,,,anyone know for sure ?
This would be really depressing if true. Terry Bradway is what's wrong with the Jets right now. We're not going that extra step while his patented roster destruction methods continue to rule in the Jets organization.
Jets seem to be missing a great opportunity with Dorsey and Caldwell to get a truly fresh start and perspective. Instead it seems the connection train will continue onwards. Sent from my PC36100 using Tapatalk 2
That sounds like a very loose connection to me. Bradway has known the Gamble family for years? How so Cimini? They graduated from the same college 6 years apart? OMG! I suppose the Bradway knowing the family thing could be something concrete but knowing Cimini it was nothing really.
To summarize without any over reactive bullshit or opinion involved, here's where I see the GM search right now. Please correct me if I've missed any names. Teams Looking For GM: Arizona - Promoted Steve Keim to GM Carolina Chiefs Cleveland Jacksonville - Hired Caldwell San Diego New York Jets Remaining GM Candidates Mentioned: Beane Cohen Dawson Dorsey Gamble Gaine Gettleman Paton Polian Popp Raye Ross Telesco Guys we've heard the Jets possibly interested in: Caldwell (Hired) Cohen Dorsey Gaine Gamble Ross Telesco
You left out Chiefs and Dorsey because it looks like a done deal? Anyways... let's not panic whatever happens... remember when it seemed like the Chiefs had hit a home run with Pioli? Yeah...
Left out KC and Dorsey, as others mentioned. I wonder what happened with the Jets scheduled interview with Dorsey. did Dorsey cancel it? Also, DeCosta confirmed he is not leaving Balt, so no longer a candidate.
