the whiny beatches on this board see the GM scenerio as this: Woody: Rex this Tom Gamble the new GM, your boss. It was very important Rex you had no input into this process because the ganggreen posters demanded it. I hope you two get along. Rex: No problem Woody. Tom I want a dynamic offense - it's important that we push the envelope. We have a defense that can keep us close. Tom: Not so fast Rex - I believe we should stay conservative on offense. This is my plan.... We keep Green, etc. Rex: I'm hoping to lure Norm Turner or Whisenhunt as OC... Tom: Not so fast Rex , remember I'm your boss. The GM knows the right direction and the coaches that best suit your and the team needs. You coach , I define the direction and get the personnel. This is good. I knew we would get along. Finally will someone with firsthand knowledge explain to me why Gamble and Ross are so much better than Cohen? Or is it simply a JET thing. .
I'm curious what qualifications or experience does Rex have at drafting, developing, and managing offensive players? In his 4 years of being a HC he has demonstrated he is clueless running an offense, showing no signs of improvement. But he said in his press conference he came up with a new idea for the offense when he was in the pool on vacation, although he couldn't share with us that secret plan he has for the offense. And yet Rex will be picking the GM he wants to work with. Woody unofficially has made Rex the head of this organization and said he can't be fired. What sort of respectable GM would come in here and have a HC with the owners blessing dictate what he should do? How do you think Tanny got fired? He got whoever Rex and Woody wanted and you saw the result. Now they want another GM with no backbone to fill that same role. Who do you think would take the blame if personnel decisions don't pan out again? That's why all the big name desirable candidates are going somewhere else.
This is typical shit. People will bitch and moan that we suck blah blah blah then if we win 4-5 straight they will act like they were on the bandwagon the whole time. People do this shit all the time.
Yeah, you might be a little crazy. I don't see ANY direction that the team is going in. And while I am all for a head coach picking his own coaches, I am not for a head coach having a say in the hiring of his own boss. That's just stupid, and promotes further dysfunction.
You can pretty much take it to the bank that they are going to be worse next year. With the cap situation being what it is, next year is almost a wash at BEST.
You aren't the only one by a longshot. I think the team is an absolute mess and has no direction whatsoever at the moment. It's going to get worse too.
Does mike shanahan have a say in who is drafted? Does he get to pick his own coaches? Does Andy Reid get to. Pick the gM ? You think he has significant input in the coaching staff and personnel? Are there any other coaches who have a collaborative relationship rather than a power play relationship? Does this mean these organizations are screwed up?
The coaches you mentioned have earned the right. You didn't answer my question how has Rex proven that he is worthy of those responsibility on the offensive side? What are his qualifications?
So your issue is not the set up or the process rather you think it's a problem with Rex Ryan? Rex Ryan has a vision of what he wants - he never said he will be the architect of building that offense. In fact if you listened to the conference without having an aneurysm they specifically stated no decisions on the offense personnel would be made until the GM and subsequently the OC are in place. Rex will rely heavily on the OC and GM to build the offense he envisions.
How does Andy Reid deserve to? He just got out of a 4-12 season, and underachieved FAR more than Rex did. He got to a SB, but did not win it. 12 years with a lot of talent, and no SBs to show for it...
I'm saying Rex vision is a joke. His "vision" for the offense this last year was to ground and pound with Greene and install the wildcat, bringing in Tebow to run it. He left it to Tanny to acquire the personnel and Sparano to implement it. Look how that worked out. Now Rex has a new idea for the offense he dreamed up in the pool while on vacation. Let's be "dangerous" whatever that is supposed to mean.
Funny thing is, though, that he already tried to create this offense that he envisioned. He instilled this bullshit ground and pound mentality. It worked in 2009 because we had the personnel. Then because he wanted his defense to get better, he let the offense deteriorate to where the personnel simply didnt allow for a ground and pound offense. Then he brought in Sparano, "a mirror image" of himself. Rex's coach. That was a fail. Now he gets a do-over? Theres no fucking do-overs in the NFL. Please. Rex should have no part in choosing who coaches on the offensive side. He should no control over who's GM. He should have no control over the personnel. His job is to coach, and last time I checked this team hasnt been coached up well.
Andy Reid - overrated Shanahan out coached badly by Parcells but the Jets shot themselves in the foot. No Elway not even close to coaching a SN team. He will never win another SB
How many times has Andy Reid won his division? How many times has Rex? Andy has more HC talent in his pinky than Rex has in his entire body. Someone here recently tried to make a case that Rex is a better coach than Belichick. laughable. Why do you think Andy got snatched with in a week of being let go? Btw, the team didn't pick him he picked them.
BB got a do over after failing in Cleveland. You learn from your mistakes. Ryan admittedly went for a conservative approach on offense - dictated by philosophy and personnel. People screamed at the predictable play calling and the conservative nature of the offense - now he sees that he can't win that way or maybe has a greater chance of winning if he opens up the offense. Now what do you guys do - freakin' cry about it. We get it - you hate Ryan. Johnson believes in him. Get over it. Johnson didn't become a millionaire by being a dumbass. He knows a little about people and understands quality of people.
Actually, he became a millionaire because he family were millionaires. He's actually quite a dumbass.
BB made mistakes in Cleveland but was on his way on making that a contending franchise until the owner pulled the rug on the whole team and left town.
He inherited his millions, he didn't earn it. That's why he is clueless he never had to earn a living.
Here is a sure bet - if the Jets fired Ryan and he got hired by another team and the Jets fired the offensive head coach guru hand picked by the gang green posters I guarantee Rex Ryan's team would kick the Jets ass to NYC. His team would be a force and we would all sit here regretting - what a dumbass Woody is.....
