Or he was using the Jets as leverage to get the Iron Sheik to meet his demands.

It blows my mind that there are people who would disagree with this

Rex and Woody are running the team period. I would even suggest that Rex is essentially the GM/Coach the way this is shaping out. Any GM would essentially be an assistant GM to Rex so chances are the GM is simply a scout with a GM title. As long as Woody is owner, he can do whatever he wants and he wants it this way. He is all Rex and not likely to change for years - regardless of the results. This GM search is a farce, anyone coming here is likely looking to get paid for the title and work a minimum year then hope to move on and not be wrist tied from a Rex and Woody love fest. The circus continues.

if Scott Cohen gets the job, I believe that confirms your line of thinking here. This is frankly my biggest fear. Here are my final thoughts on this until the new GM is hired. This is how a smart owner would of played this out: Once he fired Mr.T a search for a new GM occurs. The coaching staff is kept in place until the new GM is hired. That GM decides who goes and who stays. It's that simple, you don't get the best candidates when you force a head coach on a GM candidate.

Hey! Don't insult us nerds like that! First of all, Woody is no nerd. May not be very bright, but he isn't a nerd!

Second, the only true NFL owner nerd is Paul Allen (co-founder of Microsoft) in Seattle. And I'd take the Seahawks GM and HC over ours in a heartbeat.

My fucking God. People are overreacting. Why do people think Rex is picking the GM. Seriously? What kind of bullshit are you all on?

Rex isn't a terrible coach. Shit...everyone gets so nervous because ONE candidate got a job for an organization that has been heavily pursuing him since last Wednesday. It was fairly obvious he was going to end up there. Instead, all of the darksiders come out with their SOJ nonsense. Get out of here with that shit.

I don't know, Bob Kraft doesn't strike me as the "coolest cat" around either! But to further back your point, I'd take their coach and qb as well ;-)

  9. Dude, It's been negativity all around for months. We've seen this organization crumble onto itself over the past 2 years...meanwhile every single day the media comes up w/ a new reason to drown us in even more misery.

We just want some good news...ANYTHING for that matter. A new Gm gives us the one thing we have left:Hope.

Now even THAT is going to end up being a worst case scenario. Watch how the media runs w/ the Jets hiring Cohen. We've entered the abyss my friends. If you didn't think it could get any worse..it just did.

I've only been a fan for two years (so I may be a bit spoiled) but you most likely lived in a time where the coach won four games in two seasons. You had an owner who apparently rushed on the phone to get Kottie. Woody doesn't seem to be that much of an idiot, so to speak.

There is no fucking abyss. We just fired three severely underperforming people and let go of a man who's been destroying our reputation by leaking tabloid news. We are keeping a coach who, for the most part, has been fairly successful with a mediocre at BEST quarterback. We have an owner who's trying his best to keep things on the right track. We have a search firm who's looking at all the right people. Nevermind the fact that there may be several more kept under wraps. But yet, we're in an abyss of SOJ nonsense.

Get out of here with that. All you're doing is creating a self-fulfilling prophecy. Personally, I think we're going to get an excellent GM from outside of the organization, and I think we will be on track to compete for the division within 2 years, and compete for a SB within five.

As soon as Tom Brady goes the Jets will have a real opportunity to compete with the the Pats. That could be in 2 years.

Yes. I think we can do it if we get the right people. We're the only team in the division who really gives the Pats a good game for the most part...

How is Cohen as a salary-cap manager and as a talent evaluator? I'm not jumping the gun on any of this until I'm more filled in as to his background

Bingo. I mean for all we know Cohen turn out to be a solid GM... I doubt it though. As people have been saying, we need a breath of fresh air.

You are spot on man. I havent been a fan as long as you, but its not hard to see how screwed up this franchise is, and has been. We need a fundamental change. Someone to come in here and not listen to Rex's bullshit and tell Woody that all he's good for is his wallet... Sadly its true, the guy has zero knowledge of football.

Listening to Rex has gotten us in trouble in the past, and it doesnt look like its going to change. Caldwell is signed and it looks like Gamble and the Jets arent on great terms...

You honestly seem like you've lost all hope and have almost jumped off that hypothetical fandom bridge. Jeeze, Champs head must have exploded if someone who's always had a positive view on this organization like you is so down.

I honestly think this fan base would explode if Cohen was GM. PSL holders will be dropping left and right. We need some hope in the form of an outsider here.

Read between the lines homey... the best candidate had a "bad second interview" all of a sudden Tannenbum's #1 is all of a sudden a leading candidate.

Gamble was a leading candidate...and now look. Maybe Cohen will talk his way out of a job. Then, we can focus on some other guys. There is really no reason to get super nervous all of a sudden. We're making a lot of the right moves this offseason. I expect them to continue.
