heres some great Rex quotes from the presser

Rex: "We are gonna be a dangerous football team"

Rex:"Your not gonnaa wanna play the NY Jets"

Rex:" I want an all weather offense"

enough of the bullshit Rex just stop saying shit like this every year

Watching that press conference was difficult.
It was difficult because it became apparent that both our coach and our owner haven't got a clue.

Again, I think having conditions on the search will limit the appeal of coming to the Jets. It's not just pure speculation. Unless you are talking about a candidate who wants Ryan to have more of his own control, it will be a negative for anyone else. That would be one thing if Ryan were widely respected, which he is not, or had a recent track record of success, including choosing his own hires, which he does not.

I don't know what to say to you if you are so headstrong about saying that keeping Rex does not scare off any conceivable top candidate. You have to be a real Rex Homer to think that.

The only other GM job out there that is better is the Chargers job. Maybe the Carolina job, but idk. Everyone else, we have the advantage over. We'll get a good GM.

And this has WHAT to do with the topic of this thread? It's probably not even real.

I am not a midwest/plains kind of person, but while their recent history has been a problem, they would seem to have some upside.

Get a house on a lake with a boat, go to the top KC steak restaurants. If you have kids it's not like you're living in some total backwater. People seem okay. There are worse places.

The only one buying Rex's BS is Woody. So this last season you weren't dangerous but next season you will? What are going to do to be more "dangerous"? By dangerous do you mean an offense that isn't the laughing stock of the NFL?

Actually I don't like the Chargers job because the owners are total cakeholes. But... the main point is I've lived in the NYC area for most of my life. I know enough about it to know it hardly appeals to everyone. Hardly. I'm not even sure how much it still appeals to me.

I mean we don't have to be NYC Metro Area homers here, too, do we?

It's almost definitely real, but Rex could have a legit health issue that makes something like this necessary for his wife or something, not really peoples business.

I'll concur with these statements. It's not just the working with/for? Rex Ryan that makes the Jets GM job a tough sell either.

    Three strikes:
1)QB - the new GM will have the ever-difficult task anywhere of finding this team a new QB

2)Coach- the new GM will have to work with/for? a polarizing and limited Head Coach, who answers over his head to the owner

    3) Cap- The new GM will walk into one of the worst cap situations in the whole league, with an aging roster and a bare cupboard on offense to boot.

I''m not saying they won't get a good candidate. There's other factors at play. Maybe the guy loves the NY area. Maybe his wife does, maybe he just wants a GM job and doesn't care.. Etc.
Maybe they'll hire the WORST candidate even and he'll get lucky on a draft pick and it will look like he was the best.. who knows.

But ultimately it's an incredibly difficult situation to ask of any GM candidate and makes it the least attractive job of all the open GM jobs. The fact that that Woody Johnson has an opportunity to make it a little more attractive by eliminating the Rex factor, and chooses not too, is discouraging.

The question is what are we really looking for in a GM? My own take is we are going to be hiring a first time NFL GM. I would hope we are going to find someone with vision of what his team is going to look like, vision of the kind of players he is going to put on the team, vision for the kind of coaches to implement his vision along with coaching up the overall talent he drafts. I also suspect we want a dynamic strong personality that wants control over his destiny in the organization.

That kind of person isn't easy to get and the control aspect isn't particularly appealing to a strong minded owner. Woody has in Rex a guy who gives him some control over the new GM. He also gives him loyalty which is probably pretty important to Woody seeing how things went with BB.

I suspect we aren't getting the next great GM and that's by design.

Listening to Rex Ryan on the Michael Kaye Show, I must be a glutton for punishment.

He was hired by Mike T as well as Woody Johnson. He feels that is important to mention

His involvement with the GM hiring will be towards the end of the process, not the front end. His role in that is not clear as yet
