That's the other point - Woody may have the right as the owner to asssess what the "basic philosophy" should be. But he has no cred when it comes to his ability to decide what it should be.

Look, I just don't think the conditions they are putting out there will help them find the best candidate. If you are happy with mediocre, or someone who is a great candidate who somehow also considers Ryan a great NFL HC, that's your view and your entitled to it. I disagree.

Not to digress, but I don't like the new stadium and the co-ownership with the midgets.

Ftr, I think you are one of the most articulate posters here, so no offense intended. You're just more of a homer than I am.

For the first three years he did not have total control over the offensive side of he ball, Rex got screwed because of the early success and Schottenheimer's inability to parlay that into a Head Coaching job.

If he believes in Rex as a coach, than he believes in Rex's philosophy. if you dislike Rex, obviously you would feel that Woody is wrong in doing so.

or perhaps Rex has grown and knows his previous philosophy is not working and Rex wants to discuss with the GM candidate the candidates philosophy for the offense and plan, and the candidate can convince Rex why his plan is the one Rex should pursue. that is speculation, but not anymore so than yours.

point being that is a situation that would be conducive to appealing to a great candidate, so nothing about keeping Rex simply creates a situation that should scare off a talented candidate.

    Yup!! Rex got screwed. :jets:

  8. I hate the Co-stadium too. Still hopeful that one day we'll have a home of our own. That said..Woody did pony up some decent $ to put the stadium in place..which was my original point.

Thank you for the compliment..I admire your posts as well. You're obviously alittle more pessimistic than me..but I have nothing but respect. At the end of the day we both want the same thing.

The guy has been here 4 years, produced back to back AFCCG with a Rookie QB, and a piss poor OC. e still had to learn about offense, and as the roster changed, the original OC was not good enough to do it, and when Sparano came in, he probably want either, but they lost the 3/4 of their primary receiving corps...

Rex now realizes that. And my guess is he's going to look fr a real play caller now.

He's got to beat JJ to Norv

This would've been awesome, I would've been fully back on the Rex bandwagon had this materialized.

What I took away from the press conference is that Rex admits his failures and is now refocused and wants to take on a refreshed and new approach this year while taking into consideration the experience he's gained in the past 4 years.

Woody values Rex despite his past failures and expects him to get the team back to its previous success and beyond.

Besides a few firings, no news about new GM, or starting QB, or defined game plan for next season besides wanting an explosive and unpredictable team, and he acknowledged he liked to play in metlife's superbowl next year but made no predictions!

If this team consistently had an offense near the top third of the league, they'd win 11 a year.

Rex walked into the Mangini trap.

Penny gets hurt, Herm gets canned, Penny comes back, Jets win 10, Mangenious.

This decision shows you Woody is a little better now, as well.

In Rex's defense he did try to get Hue Jackson a couple years back.

But you couldn't fire Schotty after an 11-5 season, so he got a year to fail.

Then You THOUGHT you were getting Haley with Sparano, and wound up with no passing coordinator, then no recievers...

    At least he's learned.

I think Woody must have a tattoo of Rex wearing nothing but a headset on his right arm. Either that, or Rex has a photo of Woody with a chicken. :)

After reading all the negativity I finally got a chance to listen watch the conference. What is wrong with people? - I thought the conference went very well. Bottom line - Johnson believes in Ryan as Head Coach, believes he will have the flexibility and skills to take them to the next level. He wants the next GM to work and coincide with Ryan therefore if the GM does not want that then he doesn't fit in with the Jets plan. If he accepts Ryan and works toward their vision things will move forward. The GM gets the talent for the vision of the head coach (and GM). The GM and Ryan will work together to build a strong offense including choosing OC. To me this all makes sense. If you want a GM to make all the decision then you won't like the plan. The Jets will be a much stronger organization coming out of this.
