With Cavanough yesterday and Sparano today it seems as if their may be a new GM in place pulling strings? I don't know why they'd wait until now to fire them without a new GM in place. They should have been fired as soon as Tanny was if they were going to do that.

The real question is who gets to hire his replacement: Rex, or the new GM?

Nothing unexpected. I wonder if new GM will be announced today or not.

Sparano brought the offensive coach with him from Miami. That guy will be gone too. He talks too much.

The Jets need an entire new offensive staff except for the RB coach.

They need replace the defensive coordinator.

They have so many spots to fill on their staff. Add the new GM. Rex has 2 years left on his contract coming 8-8 and 6-10 seasons.

The Jets probably bummed free advise from all of these GM interviews. Everyone one of them said they would fire Sparano, so the Jets did.

Woody has made it clear that Rex has no say in the hiring of the new GM. I highly doubt they'll let him pick the new OC, especially after he wanted Sparano.

Too many teams probably make rash decisions personel wise on black monday, especially after our little meltdown.

A period of reflection, can often back up the initial feeling of sack the sunglasses bloke. Sit on it a week.

just in time for the news conference today

Woody should introduce the new GM at the press conference

Ok. Not sure why they needed to wait a week to do it.

It was an interview question for all the candidates.

I was never convinced that Rex wanted Sparano. Even during Sparano's hiring presser, Rex's responses sounded rehearsed and repetitive. This team under Woody has made it a practice of not allowing head coaches to hire their staffs. Herm was forced with Cottrell and Hackett. Schotty was forced on Mangini and Rex. Sparano always seemed like a suggestion from the man behind the curtain:

The same guy that suggested Bradway and Tanny and Rex. Bill Parcells. He's had his greasy handprints on this team for years.

There's a big difference between hiring your boss and hiring a subordinate.

I don't think there's any question that Rex will have input on his new OC (or at least he should, it could be a disaster otherwise.) The question is how much input.

Sporano needed to go, he wasn't a good OC in Miami. The house cleaning continues. I get a feeling Pettine is gone, but by choice and not due to being fired.

Terrible offense aside, I could never warm to this guy. Something about him. Glad he's gone.

    Bingo.

Rex and Woody (especially Rex) needed another topic to field questions about other than all of the really uncomfortable ones. That's why it's happening this morning.

Finally. Why did they wait 8 days to fire him?
