I haven't completely given up. I realize that a lot of the issues were not on him. But with that said, a lot of issues were on him and he played like his rookie year. I've been one of his biggest supporters up until around 3/4 through the season this year. He took it to new lows and looked like he hasn't progressed at all as a quarterback. I dunno. Since we're contractually obligated I think we should keep him around, but definitely bring in training camp competition. Draft a 2-3 round QB, sign someone like Smith or Cousins and have a good ol' fashion QB competition. There was no competition this year. It was Bad, worse, and he's not a QB, behind center this year. Mark needs REAL competition.

Hello - you do realize it wasn't the QB that prevented Rex from making it to the Superbowl, right?

Rex is an embarrassment as a person, but I have to say that I haven't given up on him as a coach.

    Sanchez fucking sucks.

To answer you NO you are not alone . I was at a family function yesterday,,many giant fans there, they started to ask me what I thought about the jets and what's going on. My cousins boyfriend entered the conversation ( jet fan) and he has zero problems with Rex and more astonishing still likes and believes in Mark ALOT . I agreed to disagree with him on many points,,,,,,,so no you are not alone unless of course you are my cousins boyfriend

This is why i Still belive in Rex. Sanchez should be getting the most blame not Rex, Because if we had someone like you said a "top 15" type of QB we would be in the playoffs the last two years instead of the Bengals.Honestly I would be happy with Alex Smith or Matt Flynn if we sign either one of them then I think we can compete for the final Wild Card next year with a 10-6 record , with the addition of REvis and Holmes back and whoever else the new GM signs

I'm still behind Rex and think he can be a really good coach. Not always a fan of his antics but overall it doesn't bother me as much as some.

As for Sanchez, I have some faith in him or at least hope. While he definitely did not help himself this year and I agree he has to regain his confidence which was obviously shattered this year I think he still has upside.

Here is some of my reasoning:

    1. The 2 AFCCGs are no fluke and he was definitely part of the reason we made it that far in the playoffs. We just saw the top two QBs this year go down though RG3 wasn't at 100%. Andy Dalton didn't play well and we'll see if Matty Ice can finally win a playoff game. All of these are QBs people would say are better than Sanchez yet none were able to do what he did in the playoffs so far. I'm not saying he's better than them, just saying what he did is actually meaningful
    2. The talent around him dropped significantly the past two years. He's rarely had the same WRs to throw to 2 years in a row and the OL went from flat out sucking to just being OK the past two years. While there are a few QBs who just elevate everyone's game, the majority of the QBs in the league need play makers or the rest of the team to step up for the team to be successful. And even the elite QBs find themselves losing the big games when the OL doesn't block, receivers don't run good routes or make plays, or the D can't stop the other team consistently enough
    3. OC/QB Coach - So we finally got rid of the OC but the QB coach stayed the same. This is the guy whose sole job is to help Sanchez learn and grow and has seemingly done very little. Then you have such poor play calling and lack of play makers or even lack of use of those play makers we had. Schotty was known for if a play works don't ever run it again and Sparano couldn't figured the best way to use Tebow was to thrown him into the game after Sanchez completes a few passes and to run him into the line.
4 He's still relatively inexperienced. I agree to some extent that he probably should've stayed in school another year at least though one thing that makes me have some hope is that it's not like he was a 4 year starter in college who came to the pros and was supposed to be a sure thing and is regressing. He was a sort of high reward/high risk pick who needed experience and coaching to reach his potential and was thrown into the staring job because there was nobody else.

OK, that's enough rambling and please don't confuse what I've said above with me thinking Sanchez is an elite QB who has done no wrong. I think overall he's been better than many have given him credit for though is definitely regressing and needs to really decide which way his career is going to go and take that next step if he wants to be a starting QB. Realistically his best chance may not be with the Jets at this point

This season absolutely sucked and I'm just hoping we start making the right moves this offseason to get us back on track.

I really think Abyzmul nailed it in the Sanchez Flaws thread. Sanchez has been getting beat like a rag doll since the beginning of the 2011 season. He can't stand up to the beating although he won't come off the field. The result is a skittery QB who hears footsteps and has been unable to take the next step.

Abyzmul's right: when Rex decided to play a heavy-hitting intimidating style on opposing QB's he opened the flood gates on Sanchez, who takes the retaliation for that. When the Jet's line declined things got worse.

I've always kind of wondered why Sanchez didn't get the roughing the QB calls that a lot of QB's seem to get. It's probably because the refs know exactly what Rex's defense does with the plan to put the opposing QB on the ground as often as possible. That includes a ton of hits after the ball is away but close enough that personal fouls are borderline and thus not called often. Sanchez makes the payment for those.

oh stop it!! when was the last time Rex Ryan's defense mounted a consistent pass rush even in the same game, let alone for a season?

BTW according to the so called "experts" around the league due to parity of talent thru out the league the difference between teams is there HC & that coaches staff. So the question is if the "experts" are correct do U think RR is in BB league not as a DC but as a HC & do U think RR staff is equal to BB staff?

BB doesn't have the best staff, but BB is the best coach in the NFL today. I'd say Rex Ryan is in the top 10 of HCs in the NFL. Rex has a lot to learn still on being a well-rounded HC. That said, BB is in a class of his own. No one can do what BB is currently doing in the NFL.

Mark Sanchez is pretty much the product of the FO's inept ability to develop a QB. Mark's brain is pretty much fried here in NY. Damn shame too, a waste of a top 5 pick and the FO did an awful job. I lost belief in Mark after the Dolphins game.

I don't think Sanchez gets hit anymore on borderline personal fouls than any other QB in the league. That's a bit of a stretch. If anything, Sanchez gets hit a lot after he delivers the ball because he freezes in the pocket, looks nervous, doesn't survey the field, ducks his head, double pumps and so forth. He really has horrible pocket presence. Watching any of the QB's this weekend (besides Joe Webb) and you can see the difference in how well they move in the pocket and make accurate throws. Sanchez is unable to do this.

    You speak like someone who:

    a) Has only watched the Jets for the past couple of years

    and

    b) Only pays attention to fantasy football

Not that I give a shit about your posts, because I've gotten a taste of them and they are basically worthless.

And that's why you took the time out to respond. You must be another clueless Sanchez apologist.

I saw Marshawn Lynch take a QB fumble and turn it into a huge gain. I saw Powell take a bad snap and kick it across the field before Sanchez could fall on it.

Let me take some more time out to reply. I'm timing myself now.

You don't know shit about football, or you'd argue the point I made instead of the poster that made it.

I'm in complete agreement. This team has been good enough to make the playoffs if you have even an average QB. Give the Jets an average QB, even someone like Flacco, and they're probably equivalent to the Ravens each year, getting a wild card road game where they have a good chance of winning and then being a dangerous opponent for the 1 or 2 seed.

Rex's defense has always been good enough to win 10+ games. It's the QB that has absolutely killed this team.

Yes, the Giants have beaten Brady three straight times and Coughlin has given him some trouble, but I think Rex Ryan's ability to make Brady uncomfortable and confused with scheme over the years dating back to his Baltimore days has been excellent in my opinion.

My point is, what other available head coach would want instead of Rex when facing Brady and the Pats? Rex has had more success vs the Pats than any other Jets coach in recent history. For the most part, the games are always close when the two teams play aside from 45-3 and butt fumble game.

Rex isn't afraid of the Pats and that's what I love about him. He went up to NE in 2010 and beat the 14-2 heavily favored Pats completely shutting down their elite offense. He went to Indy and beat Peyton Manning before that. And his defense against Pitt shut down Big Ben although got gashed early by Mendenhall. It's easy to forget that the Jets D pitched a shutout in the second half and that Sanchez's fumble before the half made it 24 points.

Are you serious? You don't think with a better QB the Jets beat the Steelers? The defense gave up 17 points in that game. Sanchez's typical fumble returned for a TD was the other 7 points. You give up 17 points in a playoff game and you should win most of the time if you're QB is decent.

You don't think the Jets win the division in 2010 with a better QB? Or have a better record and don't back into the playoffs in 2009 with a better QB?

The Jets' playoff runs were all about Rex's defense. His defenses completely shut down the Bengals and Chargers in 2009. When his defense got chewed in the 2nd half vs Indy, the offense couldn't bail them out.

In 2010 the Jets' defense was excellent. Shutting down the only 3 QB's to get to the Super Bowl in the AFC over the last 10 years ON THE ROAD. It was Sanchez and the offense that let the team down.

I firmly believe if you give Rex a guy like Matt Schaub or Cutler or McNabb (an average NFL QB) with the Jets defense and running game from 2009 and 2010, the Jets have a better W-L record, and likely win the Super Bowl or at least get to the Super Bowl both years.
