Chance is an elite prospect, I wont say he isnt, but Tackles simply make more of an impact than Guards. While I'd love to trade back, its easier said than done. If a player with the skillset Lewan possesses falls to you, you take him and never look back. And I appreciate you backing the WR pick, thats the point Im trying to get across to everybody. I dont necessarily see a TE in this draft that could start for us immediately besides Eifert and Ertz, both of which I could see getting picked by ATL and GB in the first. I think we'll make a play for Delanie Walker in the offseason. And its certainly hard to project the draft right now, trust me. But for now, I think values in this draft are as close as I can get them. Glad that you know Archer, hes a favorite of mine, and a must draft IMO.
There is lots of love for Warmack, almost all of the regualrs on this site love his game. The concern I have, you don't pass on an elite OT for an elite guard. Plus, we can move Howard inside, a more natural position for him.
Read back into any of my posts outside of this thread. I LOVE Warmack, but its not realistic to take him at 9 over Lewan. Lewan held his own against the best DE in the country just last week. This kid has a world of potential, dont ignore it.
Exactly. Lewan can provide insurance as well as become an excellent RT, I appreciate you clearing that up for other readers. The more I watch Hopkins the more I believe he can end up as the best WR in this draft, but like I said above, I cant make assumptions yet. Personally, I'd take Jamison over Lacy, although Ive warmed up to Lacy (because he'd fit into this offense very well). Jamison just has that "it" fact that you look for in a RB. He wont be dominant out of the gate, but I dont see why he cant become a great back in the next few years. Cant wait to watch Archer tonight, Arkansas St actually has a decent defense. If he can do what I think he can do against them today, his stock could really take a leap. I hope he gets a combine invite. I'd also like to draft a TE and was thinking about Reed, but I couldnt gauge his draft position.
If we're staying at 9, in a vacuum, I'd rather have Lewan than Warmack. Warmack may be a slightly better prospect, but tackle vs guard is no contest. The more I look at this draft, the more I like it. Jets have a lot of work to do this offseason obviously. Drafting Hopkins in round 2 is either insurance if Hill doesn't work out, or it allows you to dump Holmes possibly after this season. Best thing about this draft is it fits what Rex wants to do. I wouldn't mind drafting a linebacker earlier, but doing this should set us at RB and WR for the foreseeable future, and we saw that both were problematic this year.
But Rex has no clue what he wants to do. He says we're ground and pound, yet he ignores those positions in the draft that would make us a ground and pound team. The last thing I'm doing as a GM is listening to Rex Ryan when it comes to this draft. The head coaching situation will work itself out either this offseason or next. If Rex is here for the long haul, then you can start tailoring the team towards what he wants to do. But for right now, as a GM you need to draft towards your own philosophy. Just my take.
Please clue me in because I really don't know much about Gamble other than his reputation as a good judge of talent. I do love everything about the way SF has gone about building their team, from the head coach to the players.
Love Lewan's upside and mean-streak. I'd honestly be ok with Lewan or Matthews but I'd much rather have the Michigan Man. I know people are saying 9 is too early to take Chance Warmack, but if he's there and Lewan, Jockel, Te'O and Jones aren't, then take the kid and watch as he makes the pro bowl and all-pro for the next 12 years. If Nuk Hopkins falls to us in the second I'd cream my pants.
I also wouldn't mind Hopkins in the 2nd round. Imagine if both he and Hill pan out? Hopkins, Hill and Kerley as our future WR core.
I think the Jets just overrated their offensive line, and that has a lot to do with not addressing ground and pound. Woody was a major force on that line, and they underestimated the effect of losing him on the entire offense. Especially since offensive line wasn't the only area veterans were replaced with lesser young players. Howard is average. That's part of why Lewan is growing on me this high. Harder to get an OT than a OG. Getting our line back to elite would make the whole offense better.
Gamble has done a little bit of everything from what I've read. Experienced in college/pro scouting, a quality-control coach for the Jets under Rich Kotite, and according to 49ers.com has experience in contract negotiations. I believe his style as a GM will be very similar to Trent Baalke (current 49ers GM).
Since Matthews is staying, Lewan should be our #1 target if those big time pass rushers/ LBs arent there. And trust me, if Lewan got chosen earlier I would of took the plunge on Warmack, but the way I mocked 1-9, Lewan ended up as a Jet. Hopkins value is still up in the air, but even come April I'd say he ends up right around here.
Would love Lewan but with Joekel possibly going back to school he might not even be there. If he is I think it's a no brainer. 2010 was the first year Gamble apparently got involved with the draft and thats when they took Iupati and Anthony Davis so wouldn't be surprised to see an o-lineman early.
I would love to have the first three rounds go this way. My knowledge runs out after the first 3-4 rounds, but Hopkins could slide to second round, 9th overall unless he moves up boards like Kendall Wright last year. I remember Rueben Randle was a projected late first and made it to the Giants' 2nd choice. If Jamison is gone, maybe Stefan Taylor.
Not one safety? I'd take Rambo in round 2 if he kicks ass in interviews(He'll have a hurdle to jump through with his past problem) and does what he should in the combine. Bell could be resigned but unless Allen/Bush are ready to jump in as a starter, we will be without a safety spot as Laron Landry will cost too much(And I'd take a 3rd round pick in 2014 for compensation over resigning Landry to big bucks)
Lewan may also go to ARI.....it all depends on if Philly gets Joeckel or they go in a different direction. Arizona will get a QB in round 2 I believe.....their O-Line was absolutely pathetic. Detroit also needs O-Line as I think Cherilus is a FA and Jeff Backus is getting really old.
With Marrone now the Bill's HC, Lewan could go the pick before the Jets. Doug Marrone loves having outstanding O-Lineman.
