How were they in the driver's seat for RGIII? The Rams had the pick and traded it. And you're gonna blame him for passing on Wilson when everyone else did twice too? That's not very fair.
oh wait the GM who oversaw the most playoff wins in team history- is that the one you are talking about?
nyjunc ... you and I are normally on the same page on a lot of these issues, but Heckert and Tannenbaum are not far off from one another. Tannenbaum drafted Revis, Mangold and a few others, KUDOS. However his drafts for the most part have been hit or miss. Without Revis we STILL were the 2nd best pass defense in the league. He has given away the store with his quality over quantity philosophy which has resulted in depth issues. Then decides to extend Sanchez after a failed run at Manning which has subsequently put us in cap hell. He has let go of such Jets as Faneca, Jones, Smith (Brad), Cotchery and the first time around Edwards without so much as compensating for these losses and then HE hired Sparano and traded for Tebow. Those 2 AFC East championships were more Mangini than him, Mangini requested, he pulled the trigger. Mangini was scapegoated. Tannenbaum has had the reigns for 6+ years and produced 2 AFC East championship appearances which we lost both and instead of BUILDING off of the talent, he allowed viable starters and depth to leave the organization. This mess is ALL HIM. I don't want Heckert, who is also pretty much hit or miss and who also is terrible at assessing QB talent, but I am prepared if the others don't accept that we might have to settle for Heckert. Oh well, such is life as a Jets fan.
They are only interviewing him, Theres like 12 people they want to interview calm down guys...........It's a process....
Heckert is supposedly Andy Reid's choice as GM if he winds up in Kansas City. Might not even be available soon.
If Woody changes his tune re; Rex this could change drastically. Of course, this is just an assumption on my part.
Heckart and Reid have both now said they want to be a package deal. If you think woody wont fire Rex, then Heckart is likely not an option. Or, we will be welcoming coach Reid.
This thread is so stupid bashing Heckart. The guy was with the Browns for 2 years. He didnt get fired, they got a new owner, who wants his own guy to run the organization that he just paid hundreds of millions of dollars for. Heckart had a stellar record with the Eagles for several years, and some very good drafts with the Browns. Weeden didnt have a stellar nfl career, but he is a ROOKIE qb who was a late first round selection. He had a mediocre rookie year, on a team completely devoid of offensive weapons. Lets compare Weedens rookie year to Sanchezs. Weeden was a late first, vs Sanchez who was a top 10 pick. Sanchez had the #1 rushing attack, the #1 OL, better WRs and TEs, yet Weeden had a MUCH better rookie year. Im not saying Weeden was a good pick, or that Heckert is the best choice for GM (hes not my favorite option). But its blatantly obvious that the people shitting all over him in this thread know absolutely nothing about football. And just see ZOMG HE WAS WITH THE BROWNZ HE SUX
I'm only leery of him because of the fact that the team has had a losing record since he's been there. However, this year, I've noticed that (for the most part) the Browns haven't looked like a doormat in their losses. They've played several close games. Remains to be seen if it's because of talent or luck that they've been competitive.
Ill also point out that McCoy was a 3rd round pick, Kolb was a 2nd, and Weeden was a late 1st who its WAY too early to judge. So the people acting like thats a reason that this guy is a bad GM is stupid too. Last i checked the Eagles got a bounty for Kolb. So that move worked out pretty damn well for them. We drafted Clemens in the 2nd and Sanchez as a top 5 pick. McCoy, Kolb, and Weeden in their respective spots look lightyears better than that
