A great read; I'd urge everyone to check out this blog on a regular basis. http://turnonthejets.com/2013/01/new-york-media-new-york-jets-toj-nfl/ More at the link^
Very cool. I feel the exact same as that blogger. It's just ridiculous how horrible the media has gotten, the media is always going to be rough but they really turned it up this year. I wish that some of this actually hits some of these beat writers because we truly have some of the worst beat reports in the league. No question to me.
Well done. It's always interesting that the media wants to call out some one with anonymous sources but will never call out one of their own when they are clearly wrong.
Agreed. i'd actually say we have some of the worst beat writers in all of sports. Did you know we don't even have a beat writer with a HOF vote? Not too many teams can say that. I wouldn't think its a hard job to fill. Some posters here could do a better job given the chance. Yet guys like Cimini just stick around when none of the fans give a shite about what he says anymore.
I've made the tough decision to cut off all ties w/ the Jets beat writers via twitter & other outlets. It will be painful not to have up to the second updates that I crave..but a quick trip to TGG will suffice. I've absolutely had enough of the negativity, controversy, hypocrisy & double standard from the media. I hope others will join in this boycott.Enough is enough
It's toxic, but it apparently sells papers. Remember when Manish wrote those in depth articles on players when he first came on and many here whined that Cimini should take a page from Manish? I guess that approach lost out. As a fan base, we want drama and we want to be angry at the team. We always have low expectations and we know they will fuck it up. It's all we know. The papers just give us what we want.
I dislike the media, and Mehta specifically sucks dick, but this blog article is really stretching the truth on some things. Mehta specifically said that he never attends Friday press conferences for one - so that Friday was no different than any other for him. Secondly, he really stretches the truth with the degree to which Tebow question dominated the press conferences. Did we get too many Tebow questions? Yes, we definitely did. Did we hear "more about Tim Tebow shirtless than any action on the actual field"? No, that's completely false. Did we get "No questions about upcoming games"? No, that's completely false. I completely agree with the sentiment that the media sucks but this is the exact type of shit I dislike from them. Sounds like a butt hurt fan to be honest.
This is not a fact I'm proud of..but I likely watched 90% of Rex Ryan's daily pressers during the course of the season all in their entirety. I can tell you with certainty that the overwhelming amount of questions/themes thrown out by the media were regarding Tebow. It was clear as day. The only time notions of actual FOOTBALL were mentioned were in Rex's opening statement or if he deliberately tried to change the subject by randomly mentioning a young player. The article in question is indeed slightly fabricated..but not as off as you think. The media has become pretty ridiculous. They have indeed crossed a line.
Turn on the Jets has been much better than most other sources. As I stated in several posts, I've turned to Jeff Capellini and TOTJ for my news sources.
I agree with this post whole heartily. They smelled blood so they wanted Rex while the body was warm. Never mind his boss told him no press conference and stay away while I decide what to do. According to Steve Serby the " Jets off season is in rough waters" because Rex went away for 4-5 days with his wife 3 days into the off season. You can't make this shit up. And they insult us by telling us that Mr. T was hung out to dry since he was fired and no one talked so we Jet fans blame him for everything. Like Rex, Woody or Sanchez are not to blame at all. yeah, the press is doing all this for us, not to sell papers or go after the Jets for personal reasons. And what are Woody and Rex going to tell the Jets that we don't already know. Are they going to let us know who's idea was it to get Tebow and Sprano? Give me a break. What a waste.
I also watched them all. Their were too many tebow questions, but the "article" in the OP is a huge stretch of the truth, inaccurate.
I find it hilariously funny that the same meatheads of the press who have lambasted rex and the jets for talking too much are now lambasting rex and the jets for not talking My reading of this requirement is that the Team President is one of the officials who can give them their required pc and comply with the rule... Hi guys I'm Neil Glat...any questions??
PFWA issues statement on media violation The Jets violated the NFL media policy by scheduling their "season-ending" news conference for next Tuesday. The rule clearly states the head coach and a team official must be made available within a week after the season. On Thursday, the Pro Football Writers of America issued the following statement: "The PFWA is satisfied that the New York Jets are following the spirit of the rules in making their executives available on Tuesday. There is good reason for the NFL’s rule requiring teams to make a top executive available to communicate with the fans through the media within seven days after the end of the season. After discussing the circumstances with the Jets, we look forward to hearing from owner Woody Johnson and coach Rex Ryan on Tuesday." Ryan was scheduled to have a news conference Monday, but it was cancelled when GM Mike Tannenbaum was fired. Johnson was at the team's facility, but issued a statement, avoiding reporters. Since then, Ryan took off for the Bahamas and Johnson, too, was out of town, presumably on vacation. On Friday, the Jets will get around to the business of football, when they start conducting interview for their general-manager vacancy. Ryan won't have a role in the selection process
Well, that complaint was a waste of everyone's time. Look for Manish to come out hard with a couple of 'anonymous' articles tomorrow.
Part of the reason the Jets have become such a circus is because of the media blowing things out of proportion to excessive levels. Agree with the original writer that everything has been unbelievably negative and designed to inflame (including today's NY Post backpage). Not to mention the whole Cimini fake Twitter account scandal. It usually feels like the beatwriters hate the team and have an agenda to make the whole franchise look terrible from the outside.
I hate the NY media , They make us a joke, The media creates the circus like amtmosphere and then the media turns around and calls us a circus meanwhile they created this shit storm
