So how do you explain that he was a HOF QB for every season of his career including 2008 minues the last 5 games of the season? How about how he went to Minnesota the year after and lit it upo? The guy was tough, played through injuries a ton of times, you think maybe it started to affect him a bit after awhile? No, you only look at OCTOBER and NOVEMBER and don't even try to make any sense of what you see. Black, white. What you see is what you get.

I agree completely. We've not had a truly great D at any point during this run. We've had a very good D (2009) an almost very good D (2010) and two good Ds (2011/12). Not one of them was great. 2009 was 'great' by the standards the NFL sets these days, but compared to defenses I've seen in my life and even some of the current good ones in Houston (which also isn't great) and SF (which slips up occasionally too), 2009 wasn't great.

We had the #1 rushing attack because we rushed the ball 607 times. The real #1 rushing attack in the NFL that year was the Titans behind Chris Johnson's 2006 yard season. That said, the rushing attack was very strong. It was strong because of the offensive line. The backs were decent but if you'd put Chris Johnson behind the Jets line that year he probably goes for 2200 yards.

The #1 D was strong but it was smoke and mirrors strong and when the smoke blew away against the Colts at the end it got beaten.

The 2010 team was much stronger overall. It had a real WR corps that became a strong WR corps when Holmes suspension ended and it had a truly great RB in his last hurrah in LT.

The Jets scored 22+ points that year 12 times in 16 games, far more than the 9 times in 2008 and 2009.

Brett has never been a big game QB and he wasn't good for us most of 2008 and that includes before the December collapse. he had about 3-4 good games for us.

You have to be shitting me with this. We had the No. 1 D in every single catagory in 09 and it was substantially better then the 10 D which would have stopped the Steelers dead in there tracks. We scored more because we had more weapons on O and we had to score more because our D wasn't as good.

We scored more because we had more weapons on offense?

So this more scoring stuff was not because the 2010 Jets were a better more balanced team? It was because we had more weapons on offense?

    Really?

BTW, we did get screwed by the way things fell. The 2009 team might well have beaten Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh and the 2010 team was definitely better geared to handle the Colts spread. When the Jets drafted Wilson and got Cromartie the first thing that came to mind for me was "and we'll be facing the Ravens or the Steelers instead in the AFC championship game this year."

Replacing a GM at a time when HC in question, and team underperforming, is definitely quite similar.

The point is, you don't need to reset every 3-4 years with both GM and HC.
You also don't inherently need to fire the HC due to bringing in a new GM.

The Steelers for example rarely ever replace both at same time.
Are they second rate as well?

We are firing our GM not sending him on a retirenment cruise. The GM of football operations should have a philosophy and be able to impliment that with his people on the field developing his chosen talent. The Jets Owner has already made that decision unless he is simply keeping Rex on contract until the GM makes a decision? I'm not in favor of Woody making this decision.

The GM was fired primarily due to 7 years on the job, and still no viable answer at QB. A very non-viable QB is guaranteed a ton of money as well. That will get any GM fired, and has little to do with the HC.

Our HC has a winning record in both regular and post season despite the collasal FO fumbling of QB personnel.

You can certainly retain continuity and the team MO, while bringing in a new GM. It depends on the scenario.
If the new GM absolutely wants Rex gone, it will happen this year or next.

So far, Woody is handling this correctly in my opinion.

Rex Ryan went out with Shotty and Tanny to try out Mark Sanchez. Ryan talked about Sanchez like he was one of his girl friends. He was almost giddy by the idea of having him run his team for years to come and maybe even share a bed with him. The idea that Rex wasn't all in on Sanchez is total BS.

Now I'm okay with Woody retaining the coaching staff right now because I'm hopeful that Woody is a smart prick and is so pissed at Rex and Soprano that he is going to hold them until every other HC in the league is hired. That way this POS will get the job he deserves after the new GM comes in and cleans out the stink that Rex has left in the building.

In case I'm not being clear Rex deserves the curb as much or more then Tanny who at least put together a couple of tremendous teams for Rex to coach when he walked in here less the QB. Rex's job was to get a staff in place that could develop a QB that he wanted and win a SB. He not only failed but by all indications Sanchez has been destroyed by Rex's staff and bone head moves.

I've been a Jets fan since the mid 60's. Tannenbaum time was up but I also recognize that he built 2 of the best Jets teams in the history of this franchise in 08 and 09.

Like they stop Indy dead in their tracks? Our D was better in 2009 but it was far from great. Great D's don't get torched in the title game the way we did, great D's don't blow late game leads 3 tims like they did in 2009.

He built the team, but Ryan coached a team. Luck or not, we got into the AFC Championship game twice. Do you think that's all talent? Look at the Eagles now. They're apparently very talented, and they just had a 4-12 season.

Sanchez has been destroyed because Sanchez cannot play in this level. He's a terrible quarterback with a terrible mentor who should hopefully be fired soon.

The difference is that whilst Rex may have wanted Sanchez, it wasn't his job or his responsibility to get the pick right. Tannenbaum had the task of taking on board such advice as he wanted to take and making the final decision.

Regardless of what happens w/ mark Sanchez he helped us win 4 playoff games and reach 2 title games. the 4 playoff wins are double the next best Jets QB and is the only one to play in 2 title games. You can't win consistently in this league w.o quality QB play so obviously he has proven he can play in this league.

Matthew Mulligan helped us win 4 playoff game and reach 2 title games. The 4 playoff wins are double the next best Jets TE and he's the only one to play in 2 title games. He's obviously proven he can play in this league....

Should the Jets have kept him?

He proved his play was average. He also proved that he can't play and he was horrendous. The difference is huge.

Mulligan didn't play much, Hartsock was our blocking TE but your asinine example doesn't help you even if Mulligan did play.

He proved he can't play if he has Kerley, Schilens, gates(couldn't even make Miami's roster), Cumberland, reuland as his weapons. No QB could succeed w/ those guys.

Given your cap situation, how do you provide him with the neccessary weapons to win in 2013? We won't even get into Met Life exploding if he appears in a game.

Ah so you don't actually have an argument that a GM cannot come into a job with an HC already there (which isn't true anyway)....
What you have is just Rex hate, mixed with a fair amount of whining.
Rex didn't 'ruin' Sanchez. If anything, Sanchez will be the reason Rex may lose his job..

And the GM is responsible for the QB drafting, not the HC. Tanny did some good things, but was atroicious in his QB decisions. That is why he is being fired. The teams he built well in 09 and 10 were coached well by Rex. Build Rex another contender with a real QB this time, and he can go the distance.

Mulligan was bad and didn't do anything which is my point. It's actually a great example of why your post is stupid.

Nevermind Sanchez's actual play on the football field - he's proven he's good because the Jets have been terrible over the years and haven't had any good QBs.

Nevermind that they could use an upgrade at the position.. nevermind that he was the worst QB in the NFL this last season. He was on the roster of a team that was better than most of the Jets history - he must be good.
