My respect for Tebow might have gone up a notch over the last couple weeks.

It was nice to see an actual human reaction from him when he got snubbed out of the starting gig for the last couple weeks by opting out of being a WC QB.

Finally he got pissed, dropped the "good soldier, I'm just doing whatever I am asked" routine and basically said, "Look, I'm a QB, I'm not interrested in wild-cat packages."

I admire that. I really really do.

Thank you Tim, for dropping that fakey "good soldier" act and finally tellign us what we all knew you were thinking anyway.

Now maybe he will start working towards being an actual QB and give his fans some justification for pleading his case... since stomping their feet acting as if he was robbed of his "birthright" to be someone's franchise QB obviously wasn't working.

Funny how you characterize it a "fakey good soldier act". :)

Well, he could have continued ot overplay his "humbleness" and keep towing that "I'm just doing what they ask" line... (and pretend to be happy about it) but chose not to. I think deep down, not even his followers were buying it.

He's starting to bite back. I believe there is a thread from one of you a few weeks ago saying they wished he would stick up for himself.

There's hope for him yet. Who knows, we might even get an F-Bomb out of him.

I love what Tim tebow represents as a person, I think he can play in this league, I just don't think he can play QB.

Sorry but that bullshit. He should had said to the Jets when they first told him he was going to run the wildcat. Not when he didn't get his way and be named the starter.

Point is, it was neither "Fakey" nor an "act".

Haven't you ever been in a situation where you'd do almost anything for someone. But, that person just kept dumping on you repeatedly, and at some point, you finally said "Fark it" ?

I realize Rex told people he'd get about 20 snaps per game, and it didn't happen. But Tebow is hardly the first guy in the NFL that was told something that didn't actually happen.

That's kinda what I was getting at when I mentioned that "birthright" angle. Some of you act as if the Jets actually owe him something.

Can EVERY team afford to have their second or third string guy mouthing off about how much time they get? I'm just happy to see some of that fire come out to the surface. Maybe next year that will fire him up enough to beat out Gabbert in camp, like he was unable to do against Orton or Sanchez.

...and how is that "dumping on him" if the Jets simply don't believe he's the guy to run their offense? The Jets aren't going to be the only team to NOT go all in and change their offense up for the one guy that doesn't fit.

In a perfect world, yes. But better late than never. I thought it would be at least another year before he finally dropped that act when the NEXT team sees him in practice and goes to someone else.

I think any rational person would say that Tebow couldn't show much given the piss poor play calling and play design that Sparano had for him.

"Hey Tim, it's first and 10. I want you to take the shotgun snap and run straight ahead".

    Stunningly brilliant. /sarcasm

You have Tim freaking Tebow on the team, and yet when it's third and short or even 4th and short, Sparano would run Shonne Green or Lex Hilliard up the middle.

    More stunning brilliance.

They dumped on Tebow by not even coming close to using him correctly at any point in the season. They further exacerbated the problem by not giving him a shot even in meaningless games. What would it have hurt to play him for a quarter or half against the Bills ? Everyone knew of Tebow's reputation of being a "poor practice player". It's something that he has to work on, to be sure, but he was that way in Denver yet he went 7-4 with them. At some point, with as poorly as Sanchez was playing, a coach has to say "Fark it" and go ahead and give the #2 some snaps in the game to see what he can do in a real game situation.

First of all, it's a misnomer to claim that they'd have to change up their entire offense for Tebow. He can run the same base offense and you incorporate the WC/Read Option plays into it.

Not saying that he'd be Aaron Rodgers, but he certainly would have been better than Sanchez was.

Well, why should they after he already "opted out" of the Wild Cat and it made the press. there were already reports that he was going to ask for a trade long before that Bills game. At that point, the divorce was probably in motion.

So who cares at that point. Jets obviously dind't want him, and Tebow no longer wants to be there.

Why they had him active at all for the last game is anyone's guess. Everyone knew it was over before the Bills game.

I actually think they should have put him in. The season was gone at that point, and there are a lot of people who actually wanted to see him play. The broncos did that in his rookie year.

Not sure I buy that one. There's a reason the Broncos abandoned what they were doing with Orton. They threw that ball a LOT more, but abandoned it after the Lions game when it was clear Tebow couldn't run it and did something else. It even worked for awhile until the league caught on. Not so sure there would have been a repeat of last year when the secret is out that Tebow really struggles in the passing game. Not just with accuracy, but reading the defenses as well. Just hasn't slowed down for him.

but the playcalling and stuff didn't affect Sanchez? He didn't perform this year, we ran it fairly well this year all things considered but when he came in we couldn't run.

Yep, the Broncos did do that his rookie year, and he came in and did a pretty decent job of running their regular offense.

BTW, I disagree that he "opted out" of the WC and you have no proof that he did. He was asked about it directly in a number of questions and he gave direct answers to those questions, denying that he ever asked out of anything.

As to the "divorce" already being in motion, I actually kind of agree with you on that one. BUT, instead of leaving him on the sidelines for the entire game, they did send him in to run one WC play. WTF ? If they were going to do that, they could have given him a quarter or a couple of drives.

The entire situation this year has been a case study in mismanagement and ineptness on the part of the coaching staff.

It surely did. I don't think it's a coincidence that Sanchez had his worst statistical year this year. Everybody looks bad this year.

without doubt jets managment left a lot to be desired this year. But don't you think that might have screwed Sanchez as well? EA lot of people seem so convinced that Sanchez sucks and should be out of NY.

I mean, why is it that he sucks as a QB and THAT is why he had a miserable year (despite AFC Championship appearances in years past) ... but tebow struggled because of someone else's ineptitude?

kinda stands to reason that if the playcalling was that bad, they preobably wouldn't fare any better with Tebow than they did Sanchez.

I still think that had Tebow showed the coaching staff more when they saw him every day, he would have gotten more time, and perhaps the starting job at some point in the season.

It's kinda that chicken and the egg theory. You think he was bad because the coaches didn't trust him, and I think the coaches didn't trust him because he was bad.

Either way, it ain't good for Tebow's career, and it won't be unless one of two things happen. He either improves DRASTICALLY on the shortcomings that are holding him back... Or someone dares to be different and takes a shot while knowing their entire reputation for their career will depend on the outcome.

(..and the latter STILL might not work. All that investment and building around the guy... on a longshot gamble to begin with.)

The running game sucked during the first half of the season. If you go back and look at game tape, on most runs, you'll find the Oline engaged in straight ahead man blocking. That is, look at the guy in front of you or closest to you, and at the snap of the ball, fire off and try to drive him straight back.

Somewhere during the season, the blocking schemes changed and we started using blocking angles with guys pulling a lot more. Pulling, traps, whams, etcetera. Blocking angles give you more leverage when trying to make holes.

I agree w/ you but Tim still wasn't successful later in the year, his workoad decreased w/ the injury but he still wasn't having success.

Difference is that Tebow and Sanchez weren't being asked to do the same things. In other threads in the main forum, I derided Sparano's run game scheme but commented that his passing plays seemed to be fairly well thought out. Yeah, he made some boneheaded calls on passing plays, and there were some route concepts that sucked ala Shotty, but all in all, the pa

Take the goal line INT against Seattle. That was a great call and a well designed play. 2 receivers were wide open, the line gave protection, Sanchez just screwed the pooch on it.

Overall, while he's no creative genius, I'd give Sparano a "C-" for his passing game and an F for his running game.

Where Tebow would differ from Sanchez running Sparano's offense is that 1) I don't think he'd have turned the ball over as much, 2) he's much better at improvising and extending plays, and 3) Sparano's passing game actually suits Tebow, in that it's more of a down field approach.

I'm kind of torn on this one. I'm still not convinced that Rex didn't play Tebow because he didn't have faith in him. There's something to the argument that he kept sticking with Sanchez out of loyalty and all the $$$ that he's making, and that if Tebow had come in late in the season, Rex would have serious questions to answer as to why he didn't put him in sooner.

Any way it goes, Tebow still needs to improve. You won't find any supporter here claiming otherwise. We all know what his deficiencies are and we readily admit them, contrary to popular opinion.

That said, at least in the short term, Tebow would definitely benefit from going to a place where they have some vision, and will run a Spread Option offense.
