Why are we even considering Heckert for the GM position?

The guy JUST got fired from Cleveland and quite honestly, they haven't been a powerhouse team under his tenure. I'd rather see us nab Ross or Caldwell.

I'm not sold on Heckert although some say he has a keen eye for talent. So did Bradway.

    Your thoughts?

On the surface it makes no sense but check Cle's roster, they have some talent. They have done a nice job acquiring talent and I think they are a sleeper team if they bring in the right people to run it and coach it.

He was only with Cleveland 2 years and they do have a decent talent level. Also 26th in spending and new owner...

Talking with the guy doesn't hurt and it's not like there are endless candidates to consider with experience.

I think not giving Draft picks away and signing pricey FA makes him better, much better.

I hear ya Bellows, but read the article above. We just got rid of a GM just like this. Why don't we just go back and rehire Tannenbaum. He does the reverse of Heckert, he gives away draft pics and tries to build the FA.

FA is for plugging holes. You build your team through the draft.

Better yet let's hire the two to be co-GM. I'm not sold on this dude.

I totally agree, however you need to use FAs to plug holes and his history with QBs is abysmal.

    Next?!

So he drafted over the last 3 years still with the team

    2010
    Joe Haden-starter
    T.J Ward
    Colt McCoy
    Montario Hardesty
    Shawn Lauvao-starter

    2011
    Phil Taylor-starter
    Jabaal Sheard-Starter
    Greg Little-Starter
    Jordan Cameron-
    Owen Marecic
    Buster Skrine
    Eric Hagg

    2012
    Trent Richardson-Starter
    Brandon Weeden-Starter
    Mitchell Schwartz-Starter
    John Hughes
    Travis Benjamin
    Ryan Miller
    Billy Winn
    Trevin Wade
    Brad Smelley
    Josh Gordon

Id say very hit and miss, but they have drafted 2 blue chip players in the last 3 years. But both top ten picks so Its expected.

    Their a young team aswell.

Also adding free agents such as

    D'Quell Jackson
traded brady quinn for Peyton Hillis who had a massive season, Before he turned into a madden season
added Benjamin Watson, who turned into a steady TE

Not too bad, for a franchise that had a owner that invested little money and had little intrest before this season.

    Why??

The guy traded up and drafted Brandon Weeden to be a franchise QB. After t-bum and Sancho, you really want a guy who has swung and missed so badly on QBs (throw colt McCoy in there, too)?

    Really, Jets?

Heckert may be the booby prize here. If the Jets can't get Gamble or Caldwell and everybody else is leaning away from them they may have to make a move for Heckert. Scott Cohen would be the other possibility in that case.

There's an argument for bringing in a caretaker as Director of Football Operations for a year or two to manage the big messes in the Jets path right now (Sanchez, Revis, cap in general) and then hiring the long-term GM in 2014 or 2015. By then we'll know about Rex one way or the other and the new GM will have certainty on that front.

Dont know a thing about him, but it is just plain unfair to fire a GM after 2 lousy years. Unless he is found guilty of exposure or something like that.

Cleveland's got a ton of talent, they were in every game. I wouldn't blame the guy bringing in the players for them. Like most teams, they don't have a decent QB.

Isn't the GM responsible for bringing in the QB? The Browns were in the drivers seat for RG3 and passed on Wilson for Weeden. No thank you on Heckert.

And he's the one who has selected the QB's like Weeden, McCoy and Kolb. I say no thanks. He's hit or miss. Reminds of someone, I can't place a finger on it.

    Oh wait! Tannenbaum.

    No thanks

i think that prime candidates are not interested in our opening compared to other teams. Just because we want a guy doesn't mean he'll come here. I hope we get one of our prime candidates but I'm prepared for us not to and to end up with a guy like Heckert.
