Cory Booker declines to run for Governor, so it's very very likely that he'll be running for Senate in 2014. Good move on his part, Hurricane Sandy drove up Christie's popularity and the Senate Seat will be open, the easiest opportunity to get into America's Most Exclusive Gentlemens' Club.

Booker's already announced he's exploring a Senate Bid (CoryBooker.com now exists) Thing is, Lautenberg has not stated his intentions yet.

Booker by the way led Lautenberg last month in a PPP primary poll 59%-22%

Well said sir. Seat for life, or as long as he wants it.

Curious to note if he moves left once he's secure.

He originally ran to the right of his party when he lost to Sharpe James.

    I actually supported him.

just read an article that said Republicans will get rid of Boehner as Speaker and replace him with Paul Ryan.

    2 unpaid tax cuts
    Medicare Part D
    No Child Left Behind
    Patriot Act
    TARP
    Many debt ceiling increases

AND NOW he is the serious guy??????

Agreeing to be Mitt Romney's running mate was a huge mistake. He has that Romney stank all over him. The days of him being known as the the cool, smart, wonky guy who owns a Bow Flex are over. This image is now burned into our memories.

Paul Ryan would be nuts to take that job. Look at what's happened to all the guys (and the woman) who had it before him. The quickest way to kill your career at this point is a term or two as Speaker.

surprised there isn't more discussion about this "fiscal cliff" show being acted by this countrys leaders....

as i have posted many times before - there was no way BO was going to be a 1 termer -hence a victory in november. i take the same opinion that there is no way we cliff dive under his watch. i expect a compromise this weekend or monday - probably in the 400-500k area for income and tweaks to the spending cuts and AMT.

of course we know it will be advertised as the president willingly compromising against the big bad GOP so he and the senate look like the savior amongst the ignorant voting public.

the fact that this side show has come down to the last weekend of the year is proof that this country and the current administration is on a very very dangerous path.

there was some intertesting option activity in the SP late this afternoon after the market was down in the last hour or so. not to get technical here but it did appear some deep pockets were setting up trades for a rally into monday/wednesday. probably our congressman getting their option trades lined up.

if it does play out that way - u folks should fade (sell) whatever rise we get its going to be a tough 2013.

    good luck

If the fiscal cliff scenario happens the Republicans are handing Obama a gift. I can't believe they're going to do that. If they do then it means their back-benchers are uncontrollable at this point and we've got real issues until 2014.

No Republican operative in his right mind is going to let Obama become the guy who turned the Bush Tax Cuts into the Great Middle-class Tax Cut. It's just not going to happen. If the Republicans go ahead with the 400K and under cuts now they are part of the action. If they go ahead with the 250K and under cuts in January they will be bedraggled losers caving to popular opinion.

They have to get this one right.

BTW, the reason John Boehner perpetually looks like he's about to have a stroke is that he understands all of this. He's been working very hard to get a deal in place before the tax rates rise on everybody and Obama gains full control of the situation. Can you imagine what is going to happen to Obama's approval rating when he starts barnstorming in January telling crowds he wants to cut their taxes but the Republicans are standing in the way? Good lord.

I don't agree. Say what you want about Nancy Pelosi but she got the votes when she needed them. She was a successful Speaker. John Boehner on the other hand is the weakest Speaker in recent memory. The President and the Democratic leadership in congress can't negotiate with the man, he's can't deliver anything he agrees to, heck he can't even deliver something (he called it Plan B) he himself wrote.

But that is just what the GOP is doing and everybody knows it. Elections have consequences. The GOP lost. Don't hand us this logic that the election was a "split decision" because the GOP held onto ridiculously gerrymandered house seats.

The GOP blocked almost everything Obama tried to accomplish in his first term with the hope that he would lose the 2012 election. That strategy failed. It's time the GOP realized that they owe more to this country and its people than they do to Norquist. The country voted and decided that they want a balanced approach to cutting the deficit.

If the GOP cannot accept that premise and put real revenue raising proposals that include the end of the Bush tax cuts for everybody but those making $4-500,000 a year on the table, Obama and Democrats will rightfully come out of January with overwhelming popularity, particularly when you consider that Obama will have the national spotlight over and over again with the inauguration and the State of the Union address.

It is time for the GOP to realize that Obama is President and they have to compromise. If they compromise on revenue, the Dems and Obama will yield on entitlements and we will get a deal. But If the GOP continues to let the far right Tea Party minority control the party, the GOP will be in for a rough time in upcoming elections.

Hhmmmmm not to beat my own drum here but.....Things went as expected and it looks like 450k is the magic number. No matter how u slice it these shenanigans are destroying whatever confidence their is amongst the hard working folks of this country.

I still think that number is too low with respect to many small business owners - especially in the big city regions. For the private folk the 400/450 ceiling is ok but of course it's all relative to your personal situation with regard to children, loans, geography, and other expenses.

All in all this just delays the inevitable recession which will arrive with fury, likely as bad as 2008.

FWIW, the House decided to postpone the vote until after the New Year. The angle here is to vote on the compromise after the cliff so they can claim that they're voting to "lower" taxes on everybody.

Pretty cynical and I'm hoping the American public sees through this. House Republicans really need to ask themselves who they owe allegiance to. Grover Norquist or the people that elected them. To me, it sure looks like they value the allegiance to Norquist far more than their responsibility to their constituents. The day of reckoning will come for the Tea Party. Bet on it.

I'm sorry but if you are making $400/$450k and can't live on that, you fail at life.

The only way the 2008 recession occurs again if the spending cuts/austerity are so drastic during the next fight...

While I agree they also shouldn't be asked to shoulder the burden for reckless spending. Honestly I have always been in favor of a flat tax, this way the illegals pay their share too and we can completely eliminate the biggesdt waste of government spending... the IRS. Of course if we had a flat tax the 1% couldn't cheat on their taxes so it'll never happen.

The fury that will rain down squarely on House GOP if they kill the deal by amending it will be a sight to behold. Keep in mind it passed the U.S. Senate with a huge majority of 89-8.

EDIT: They are really doing this.

Gerrymandering. These politicians have no one to answer to when they go home. The only thing they have to worry about is a primary election.

Senate/President at fault just as much as the House (although public opinion won't agree). Summary of the U.S. Senate Fiscal Cliff Deal. The Senate didn't cut spending, same old politics on both sides of the aisle.
