Kim Jones reported on the NFL Network that Rex didn't want to work with Mike T anymore. Rex might have input on picking the new GM.
Leon Hess happened to Steinberg. Hess only wanted players with "character", ie non-controversial vanilla guys. We passed up a lot of talent because of Hess' demand not to draft or sign anyone he found unacceptable.
Hiring Gamble, firing Rex and bringing in Greg Roman and Alex Smith makes sense on paper but doesn't look likely.
no fucking way that's true. coming off 2 shit sandwich seasons rex has the balls to ask woody to fire the GM? can't see it.

Once again, if you don't have a clue how salary cap works, don't comment about it. Any GM with the least amount of football knowledge can swing the Jets cap to create almost $50mil in cap space, plenty to bring on half his team and sign n draft 12+ starters. It's really not that bad. N if we somehow can get rid of Sanchez, that cap space can increase to almost $60mil
With the way Tebow was used this year..and with this above post...Im seriously starting to believe that all of this Woody wanted Tebow to sell PSL's is a bunch of nonsense. Something happened to Mr T just before and during Hard Knocks and crap starting going to his head. I dont believe Rex wanted Tebow at all..nor do I think Woody pressed for it. And there lies the way he was used....and they way it all went south. If Woody was unhappy with the way Tebow was used...it would have put Rex in trouble and Rex would have felt pressure to use him It was all Mike T and i firmly believe that now.
Not sure about Tebow but I am almost positive it came from Tannebaum to rotate Vlad in at offensive guard every few series. Would look a lot worse on his record if he wasn't getting any playing time at all.
If Woody wanted Tebow and Rex openly did not start him it would be blatant insubordination and Rex would have been fired today too
The key issue for the Jets will be finding a general manager who can co-exist with colorful head coach Rex Ryan. Some top general manager candidates may prefer an opportunity where they can pick their own head coach. http://espn.go.com/blog/afceast/post/_/id/53302/jets-already-have-two-gm-targets
It was on NFL network. Three way conversation. She was at Jets camp. Solomon Wilcots was in Cleveland. Another female reporter was in Philly. They were discussing those team situations. She said Rex is no shrinking violet. He is involved personnel and will be involved.
Polian Says No To The Circus The Jets reached out to ESPN analyst and former Colts president Bill Polian before hiring their general-manager search firm, but were turned down by Polian regarding any interest in replacing Mike Tannenbaum. Unless they pry New York native Tom Gamble away from the 49ers, the Jets are going to have a difficult time selling themselves to noteworthy GM candidates. They would prefer to not let the new GM hire his own coach, and have a documented history of dysfunction up top. It's unclear how serious the talks between Polian and the Jets ever got. He likely denied them quickly.
This Jed Hughes character better be working quick on finding a good GM (like next few days quick) because not only are the top choices going to be scooped up but it sounds like the Jets mess may be scaring away some too. If we get left out on the cold and hire some scrub it will just be more losing for this franchise.
