Hope everyone enjoyed their final tailgate/Cell Tower Stadium experience of 2012. I don't know why but I haven't been able to come onto here using my web bar since before the Jaguar game. I finally Google'd it and clicked a separate link and I'm back on the board. Anyways, Merry Christmas/Happy Holiday's to all my other fellow pissed off season ticket holders and if anyone is looking for two seats in 104, I'm your guy.
Woody will make decisions about this football team based on "How do I get my current STH's to stay without reducing prices of there tickets". He will not have a long range plan to fix things. There is no rebuild in his world because of the prices he charges. That sucks for all of us. We need to tear this thing down and start over, he's going to give us a big name and try to patch it together so 2013 won't be a disaster. He does not have balls or patients to do it correctly. The problem is Woody and this stadium and neither will be replaced. Post is back on message.
Champ - this is a thread to talk about tickets and the stadium, not the team. There is a section for that called The New York Jets. Please take your comments about the quality of the team and its players there and let us read about what we came to this thread to read without having to scroll through dozens of your endlessly repetitive Jets Suck posts.
Ah again U have directed your flames at the wrong guy This is the guy U should be after Quote: Originally Posted by alleycat9 View Post it will be interesting to see what happens after this season. remember they couldnt fill the place over the past 2 years so it should be fucking scary this year. 8-8 was a rude awakening for any of the PSL buyers, especially if they were newbies with the Ryan "We'll kick their ass" stars in their eyes. They at least expected winning seasons and playoff contentions year after year for as long as they live, with at least 2-3 Superbowl appearances every decade. The bloom not only came off the rose, the roses rotted in their vase and gave off a terrible aroma. 8-8 is now 7-9 at best, with a very real possiblity of becoming 6-10. This is a disaster for anyone who set their expections based on Rex Ryan's comments during the PSL push. But the worst part is, there doesn't appear to be any one fix or limited number of fixes. STs is horrible, the O-line needs major work, our receivers are still a bunch of NFL drifters, picked up on the fly, and we don't have a QB controversy because we don't have a full-fledged QB. It looks like most of the team has to blow up, right on into the coaching staff. And we all know what that means. The only saving gerace is the Defense (which can be tweaked dor yet another season without blowing it up), but that's about it. 6-10 might be a good season from here on out, for at least the next 3-4 years.
I believe you have hit the bullseye on this statement and this is what concerns most of us. It certainly seems that Woody is more concerned about what it takes to sell his cockamamie seats than in fixing the actual product on the field. When it was obvious that sales were dwindling, he brought in Tim Tebow, for example. This may very well have not been Ryan's choice or even Tannenbaum, but as boss, Woddy wanted him here. Why? Ticket sales. And this theory is widespread. Even mainstream TV shows like "Morning Joe" on CNBC have talked about this. When Joe Scarborough questioned why the Jets even brought Tebow here, one of the other talking heads just said, "To sell tickets." So this isn't just the Jets fan community speculating this, it's a widespread theory. So now, we have to ask ourselves: How long will it take for Woody Johnson to realize that he'd sell PLENTY of tickets if he'd just get down to the basics of putting good, talented, well-coached people on the field? Forget all the offseason flash. Take your lumps now (because you're going to take them anyway at 7-9 or 6-10 or whatever) and you won't be selling many seats regardless of your offseason shenanigans, and concentrate on what it takes to build a real SB team. I swear, if Woody had only concentrated on the team and not the ticket sales, the problem would have solved itself by now. I do realize he could never have predicted Revis going down or Sanchez stinking up the field as much as he's done after 4 years with the team, but some of the offseason flash moves he's made during his tenure (Favre comes to mind) were obviously only big name bandaids designed to foster hope and nothing more. A QB whose prime is long gone, but who will fill seats for you for now. You can't keep on doing that year after year because you eventually wind up where we are right now. Cultivating no one (well... there's always GMAC and Coples, etc), but teams like the Patriots are cultivating dozens of guys like that and then weed through them and put the best overall team on the field as a result. Kraft worries about winning first and believes the ticket sales will follow. Woody believes you should fill the seats with offseason flash and if it sells tickets, it won't matter what's on the field. Ridiculous.
sheer hilarity... he almost got me too. i was reading it and was like wow i really knocked that post out of the park...
What a difference a few yrs makes,,,,thank goodness this season comes to an end today,,,,let the healing ,,licking of wounds and firings begin and end ! black Monday can't come fast enough for me,,,,I hope and pray Woody does some smart moves but history scares me,,,,,,,in keeping with this thread the new place is horrible,,,,it is way to high and set back way too far,,,,I think they were out of their minds charging such high prices for tickets and attaching ridiculous psl fees for this stadium and product ! My new years resolution is the same as last year,,,,I will not buy a psl ! Be safe and happy new year all of you guys and gals,,even you sg3 wherever you are shilling nowadays
Should be a lot of people walking away from their PSLs after this season. Groupons for 2 for 1 PSLs can't be far behind
It's going to be a long offseason. And it'll be interesting to see what Woody does. I wonder if he'll finally get it... that building a truly winning team from within is the key to eventually selling his tickets, not bringing in the flash that gives him the offsesaon headlines like in previous years. I'm talking about bringing in the Brett Favres, the Plaxicos, the Tim Tebows... the kind of names that temporarily goose the ticket sales, or, put more correctly, prevent the slide of cancellations each year. Sell tickets first, then worry about if we'll win with these guys second. I think he needs to take his time with these decisions, not think that it all should be done just becasue today is Black Monday. He ought to seek out others' opinions. Call up Bill Parcells. Talk to other owners and even successful coaches... not to solicit them, but to pick their brains. There's a lot of work to do. STs has hit a real slide and we're losing Westhoff. I believe Westy has been a great influence on Ryan, so he now loses that mentor. I'm not even sure if Ryan is the man for the job anymore. And Tannenbaum used to be a good cap artist, so get him out of player decisions and put him in the back room with a calculator if you must keep him. We've drafted good people only to see them go to other teams and had tremendous success and we've kept some that are busts. Our defense is salvagably, I think, with some tweeking, but our offense lost spirit, I think, even the O-line which was once one of the best. And that's becasue Rex stayed with Sanchez too long and everyone in the locker room knew he was a stinker. Everyone. And yet they had to go out every week and play hard only to watch this guy throw INT after INT and give games away that should have been won. Maybe once the cancer is cut out, the entire team will feel like it's capable of being fixed. Put El Guappo on a plane to Juarez immediately.
Next year will be a repeat of this season &may be even lower at this juncture of the off season is MHO
i hope we never win a super bowl and champ is always right about us sucking. and i think im gonna invest in 6 PSL's now
Woody was not going to fire both coach and GM with 2 years left on there contracts. He knows this team will not be fixed in one year so he decided to let him coach one more year and save some dough. After next year the new GM can find his coach and use the crappy record as a reason. Also, with so many coaches fired this year its going to be slim pickings.
17a, I was thinking of upgrading to a PSL also. I am only getting 4 though. Its a great time to be a STH. Champ, you are missing out on some great times ahead. Can't wait for 2013.
